MCO fingerprint in opperation

Oh well, I thought something like this would eventually come into play!

It doesn't look like it would take much longer than the older style finger scans though. :)

I thought it would be each individual finger, at least 4 in one go is quick.

Claire ;)

I wonder what will be next.. DNA samples as in mouth swabs ??.. :rotfl:
we've had shoe removal and finger printing up to now!

I'm all for this. I actually think that the UK should have this, maybe then we can keep track of who's coming into the country! Unfortunately it's the state of the world we live in.

They can do anything they like for me as long as it genuinely makes safer travel. Hopefully this won't slow immigration too much, we are at back of plane at Easter.

We seem to be going down the iris recognition route which, by all accounts, is more reliable than the 10 fingerprint scans (which are reported to be susceptible to both machine and human error).

i don't think the point is to make travel safer, but rather for the US to have a better handle on who's in the country...
of course, since they don't really track who leaves, it's sort of useless....
and i don't think they fingerprint on the canadian border, so anyone can get through there..

it will probably be a few years before any of this will really be of use....
it all seems like window dressing....

For the past few years we have had to do the USvist thing, where you have had to go to a fingerprint/eye scanner before you leave to prove you have left.
Also with the visa waver scheme you hand in stub before you depart on plane
So they do track who leaves

We have never done anything to prove we have left only using our plane ticket, I guess they can track thru that. Twice we have got home and still have visa waiver stubs and know a few others that also have, there was a thread a few months back about it.

In thereory they can refuse you entry agin if you havent retuned them. Not heard anyone being refused but wouldent like to be the first
http://www.dhs.gov/xtrvlsec/programs/editorial_0525.shtm info about it

Can't remember if the thread was on Dis or another forum, I was amazed how many come home with them. if that was just on one forum how many every year come home with them? They have no idea if you have returned or if the airline has lost them, its a useless system, I am not even sure they do anything with them:confused3

When I got bck from NYC in dec I still had the green stub in my passport....I called the US embassy who told me I have to send back to the US...They gave me the address (its online on the us embassy website) and I also had to send proof that I was back in the UK such as the boarding pass, or a bank statement showing recent transactions in this country.....

How does it make the journey safer if the process is after the journey?

One advantage might be if this led to the introduction of an automated entry system that by-passes the surly immigration officials. The iris recognition entry back into the UK seems a good idea although the three times we have tried to register for it they have not been open.

Effective May 6, 2007, international travelers are no longer required to check out at a US-VISIT exit kiosk. All other exit procedures remain the same. International travelers who received a CBP Form I-94 (Arrival Departure Record) upon arrival must still return it to an airline or ship representative when departing the United States. Please see press release for more information

last may not that long ago and sanford wasnt part of the scheme which we traveled from last aug
