Hello everyone,

I have been asking Wayne for his opinions on this as I know he went recently but has anyone any other thoughts as when we go this August it will be 2 years since our last holiday.

Virgin are now at Terminal A I know, Dollar rental car situated at A and B so thats ok but the new 'improved' baggage collection:
I know you can now skip the second baggage drop off/pick up, but has anyone done this with a lot of luggage.

We have 3 large suitcases, hand luggage and Josh in his child's wheelchair (he cannot walk long distances so it's a must have for the parks).
The thought of carrying this lot to the monorail after a long flight isn't inviting but we all hate that second baggage collection hassle don't we?

I presume there is an elevator should we choose the new 1 drop off option, but I suppose they don't let you keep the trolley. It must cause chaos on the monorails with everyone having their luggage, anyone with any experiences?

It didn't apply to us but I'm almost certain you can't take a trolley into the elevator.

The monorail really didn't seem that much more crowded when we were there and they are pretty frequent anyway. They seem to have it pretty well organised as well - they block off the entrance doors until people have got off the monorail and coming back we were even stopped from going to the monorail boarding area as one had just come in and people were coming off of it.

Can't really help - just being cheeky and bookmarking for future reference. ;)

(I think it was still over the 'other side' last December - we did the one drop and there wouldn't have been room for us, the pushchair and a trolley in the lifts)

In January we were a party of four adults with four cases and 3 sets of golf clubs between us and we were made to relinquish our luggage as normal. Maybe we were just unlucky and could have taken it with us if we'd insisted. :confused3

In October we were still over on the other side but were only allowed to carry 1 suitcase each person - the extra 1 that we had taken had to picked up twice.

Hiya ,

Last month we were told to take all our luggage ourselves up the escalators- no trolleys allowed even in the elevator. I guess you would have to do the second drop thing..... Monorail was not too busy even with all the luggage. They seemed very organised and kept us all moving... no problems...

Thanks.

Official response is :

"Thank you for contacting Orlando International Airport.

Yes, Virgin Atlantic has relocated to the A-side of the Main Terminal for ticketing, check-in and baggage claim, but still arrive and depart from the same gates on Airside 4.

We now have an escalator and stairs directly from the Customs & Immigration area up to the AGT (train) station. You may now keep your checked baggage with you and take it on the AGT so as to avoid having to claim it again once you reach the Baggage Claim in the Main Terminal. If you would rather, you may still re-check your baggage and pick it up in Baggage Claim A once you exit the AGT. Dollar is located on both the A and B sides of the Main Terminal, on Level 1.

Enjoy your stay! "

To be honest whilst the second baggage check is a pain, if there is no elevator this change hardly looks after the disabled.
How we are supposed to get up an elevator or stairs with 3 large suitcases and a small children's wheelchair I don't know.

Looks like we are consigned to 2 pick ups as before.

Same for us Johnny, with having a pram. So it will be 2 pick ups as before :)

We went with two adults and two cases and managed just fine.

However at the same time as we were going past the baggage drop and onto the esculator there was a family with 2 young children and they had a least 3 if not 4 cases plus a pushchair. They asked the attendant who was at the baggage drop how long it would take and when he said 10-15 minutes -they decided to take the luggage up and with them.

I know they couldn't take the trolley and how they were going to manage all the luggage once they final had it all up the esculator (there are stairs next to it) i just don't know :confused3 I have a feeling they may have been first timers :sad2:

Next time we go we will hopefully be taking the baby and we will be doing the second drop as I can not imagine trying to carry the extra luggage with us. :rolleyes1

Elise :goodvibes

Think we will hand our cases over for them to take it over to the main terminal. Only thing that bothers me is are there now going to be lots of people waiting for the lift? We don't have much option as son in a wheelchair so to have to queue even longer is going to be a real pain!

last october we were told to relinquish our bags for the second bag drop, well i would have been upset except that the bags almost beat us to the 2nd claim, they came thru real quick maybe because there are a lot less bags going on thru
