Hello,

I was wondering how other folks found claiming their bags went. We would have a flight that would land around 8:00 pm on a Saturday. DH and DS will have just made it through their first ever plane ride and reading that it can take 3-4 hrs after checkin for bags to arrive, well that will make it a really late night/morning!!! I also read that some folks call to have the bags arrive in the morning after they wake up. But we plan on being at rope drop our first day there and really don't want to wonder if our luggage made it or not. I also read that alot of folks use the ME service of having ME handle their bags so not many come out on the turnstiles. So....how was your personal experience getting your own bags then proceeding to ME to catch the bus? Thanks for any info you guys can provide.

Which airline are you on? If it's an airline on A side, it will take you more time than if it's an airline on B side since ME is on B.

It actually does not take much time at all to get your own bags. By the time you get off the plane, walk to and ride the tram, probably use the restroom and make your way down to the baggage claim in terminal B your luggage should be out and ready for you to grab. Then you just walk down to the Magical Express buses. When we land in the evening like that ....we just get our own bags.

I've never picked up luggage and taken to ME bus but we have picked up luggage when cruising or staying off site many times. It's really very easy. Just follow the herd down 1 floor and you'll see signs displaying which conveyor is handling which flight #. They are usually very prompt. We always do a bathroom break as soon as we get off the plane and only wait a couple minutes for luggage. I would definitely recommend this if you don't want to stress out about staying up late waiting for luggage. The last time we had an 8:20pm arrival, we sat for a long time on the bus waiting for more people to arrive. Then stopped at 3 other resorts before ours. It was 1130pm by the time we walked into our room.
Next Fri we're flying down with an 11:15pm arrival. I'm not dealing with that bus so late. We booked van service with Happy Limo. Some times sleep is more important than $.

Instead of worrying about when your bags will arrive, ask bell services at your resort to hold them until you call the next morning. You were planning on putting the important stuff in your carry-ons anyway, weren't you?

Or not...

I have waited as long as an hour at MCO for the luggage.

SW tends to be fast. Everyone else, well it's anyone's guess what will happen on your day!

Depending on where you're staying, you can have your luggage delivered pretty early so you can still make rope drop.

If you let ME take your luggage, you need to call and ask Bell Services at your resort to hold your delivery until morning, and you can specify a specific time.

That's only if your airline is on side B. For example, if you are flying Southwest you have to go to baggage claim on side A. Then go back up to level 3, then down to level 1 on side B for ME.

It's rare for luggage to be out when you get to baggage claim. It's typically at least a 15 minute wait, depending on how many flights are coming in at the same time.

Hello Everyone,

We would be coming in via Transair. It is only one flight on Sats...lucky for me is that it is a non-stop since DS and DH have never been on a plane before. I just don't need the added stress of waiting and hoping our bags arrived ok. I think I would lay in bed excited about our first day in the park and nervous our bags won't arrive and have DH having issues. Yes, we will have all the important stuff, including pjs, with us on carry ons. Worst case senerio I told DH that we will wear what we fly in for our first day in the parks incase we didn't get our bags. But I know this will need to be a decision prior to our departure airport on whether or not to put the luggage tags on. I really wished our sat flight was mid-day rather then later...grant you, 8 pm arrival vs 11 pm is better...but travelling with two who will be expericing alot of firsts within 24 hrs can get stressful if not planned out in a way...or at least I feel that way.

That's been our experience too. Even when we get priority tags on our luggage, it still takes a while for the carrousel to begin delivering the bags.

I just did this a week ago. Checked a bag on SW, went down to get my bag at the baggage claim in terminal A, crossed back over to terminal B, went down to ME (I didn't realize that you no longer have to go through the line. The CM just looked at my voucher and sent me through the line. Of course, I don't use ME often.) and then waited for 1/2 on the bus for it to be full enough to leave. It literally took me in between 10-15 minutes to get my bag (once I was near baggage claim) and make it onto the ME bus.

Granted, though, I feel lucky that it didn't take longer. I date someone in Orlando and fly in once a month. A couple of times recently we've waited at least a 1/2 hour for my luggage. Once for an hour because the carousel broke. So, you never really know what kind of luck you'll have. Generally, though, I've never waited in excess of 10 or 15 minutes for my bags.

You may have to sacrifice rope drop for your first full day if you use the Magical Express baggage delivery.

If the baggage did not arrive for your previous evening flight in, you would have to file a claim (at the resort front desk) after the next morning baggage delivery was completed.

This might give an incentive for some of you commando style touring planners to not use the yellow tags and to go fetch your bags from the carousel yourself if your plane gets in after 6 PM, or to accept wee hour baggage room delivery (this latter strategy does not work at Pop Century and All Star).

OOPppsss...yes, the airline is Air Tran....I guess I was tired when I typed that.
Since I will be booking through an agent I might even see who else might have a non-stop mid morning/afternoon flight out. Then get the cheaper air tran return ticket home. This way we can take advantage of flying in and letting ME fall into place a get our bags as we head to the resort. This way we can relax that very first day of flying and be refreshed our first day in the park. I guess it will depend on the cost of another airline. Thanks for all the info and tips!!

I highly suggest you book directly with AirTran. That way, if there are schedule changes, you can take care of them directly with Airtran instead of having to work through an agent.

Getting your bags isn't a real big deal, but I think the DME luggage service would be fine as well.

If you land, ontime, at 8pm, you can expect to be at your resort by 9:15/9:30. Which means, baggage can be expected to arrive any time from 9:30 to 12:30am. Yes, you can hold it until the next day. But....that's a pain if you want to get an early start.
So, head to baggage claim and get your bags. That will add no more than 25 mins to your overall time, and you can get unpacked and settled in when you get to your resort. Since you arrive on Side B of the terminal, you won't have to lug your bags overly far to the DME area...just into the elevators, and down one level and walk a bit to the DME area.
But still pack your carryon with anything important...just in case the airline sends your checked bags to Des Moines.
