McDonalds Runaway Railway

My friend just found the Dinosaur car for me at McDonalds on her end of town. And they sell just the toy so no hamburger eating required!

I kinda want these. I haven't ordered a Happy Meal in forever - how do they give them out - is it random or like different ones as the weeks progress?

It seems to vary by McDonald's. I called my local (NY) McDonald's on Sunday and they confirmed they had all 10, so I went in the drive-thru to pick them up (and this was before the official Tuesday start date!). They sold me the toys without food for $2 a piece. But I've heard that other McDonald's only have a few at a time, or have a rule that they have to go through an entire box before opening a second one.

The toys are very cute! And did anyone notice that each one has a hidden Mickey?!

Any strategy advice from someone who has collected from McDonalds before? I never have, but I'd really like the full collection! And this is for ME, not for my 4, 9, 13 yo - LOL. They will loose these in a second. I'd love the full collection in my office to spark a little joy. Anyway, my son and I went for Happy Meals today as a treat because he has a 1/2 day of school, and I thought it was a chance to get 2 different ones. When I asked they said they had all the same ones. We got Jungle Cruise. That's fine, but hoping to get Soarin, TOT, and Everest.

I guess McDonalds gets a whole new set each week?

This is ridiculous I'm even entertaining this. We rarely eat Fast Food, and even more rarely eat McDonalds. I got sucked in my marketing (which is funny since marketing is my career - I should know better). Eating McDonalds weekly seems like a bad idea!

Yes, I have collected something before - it was the square Disney glasses, years ago.

Our McDonald’s at the time changed it each week.

And sure, it’s not healthy as a lifestyle, but once a week for a short time seems like a reasonable experience. Which will you regret more - a few bad meals, or missing out on something you actually can have right now?

I went tonight and got the Minnie with dinosaur. I didn't know there was a promotion to win a free trip to WDW. I may have to get more Happy Meals.

You're going to have one long train! You may be able to ask them which one they have at the time, if they're cool about it.

True, but (hanging head in a bit of shame) we aren't ordering them for the toys. On Sunday evenings my DD and I order Happy Meals as a treat via DoorDash since there isn't much else to do these days. DH is at work and it is girls night in with movies and nuggets :)

DD and I went today (off work and school this week) and we got one happy meal plus whatever else we wanted and divided everything to our liking. We got #1 Goofy in the Engine. I noticed that there is also a chance to win one of 15 vacation packages. I never win anything, so that didn't excite me, but it did add to the theming since it was a little "train ticket" to scan as your entry.

I was told today at one location in my hometown that the toys were issued a recall just this morning. I don't know how true this is because I see nothing online about it, and two other locations I went to were still offering the toys. I don't know if this particular location told me this because they're trying to get rid of the toys they had before this promotion.

Has anyone else heard anything similar?

Another thread is reporting a poster in Illinois went to two McDonalds and were told the toys have been recalled due to a faulty QR code on the entry tickets.

I did notice on my entry tickets it says to scan the code by 8/31/20, so maybe it has something to do with that. I'm reporting this info from California BTW.

The Happy Meal boxes here (Southwestern PA) and the sweepstakes entry screen in the McDonald's app both say the scan/code entry deadline is January 18, 2021.

So far I've been able to find toys 1 through 6 at various local stores (there are 4 within a 20-minute drive of me). Occasionally I went to the wrong location and have ended up with a couple duplicates (just meant more sweeps entries lol).

Now I have a plan - each day I call the different locations once to check what toy they're currently on. Today was the first day I didn't have any luck finding new toys, so I guess my search will go more slowly from this point on.

Yes, DD's ticket inside the package had that date, even though the box had a different date

I never looked at the box. I only cared about the contents inside the box. lol

Sounds like the recall is temporary and is because of the QR code. McDonald's is supposed to be receiving a shipment of toys without the entry tickets.

I bought a complete set at our one McDonalds that usually have them all available from the beginning.

I was told today at one McDonald’s that they were recalled. But I went to another McDonald’s and they had some. So I’m not sure what’s going on.

They will be back soon, they are going to be getting new ones with out the ticket/qr code.
There is an issue with the code on the ticket and on the boxes that it can cause an error when scanned.
