Hey Guys,

We are coming back into Canada through Sarnia, getting on the 402. Is there an exit in Sarnia that would take us to a McDonald's?

Thanks :goodvibes

Wow, I just about dropped over when I saw SARNIA in the subject line of a thread! I'll make sure to wave out my window as you pass thru my town!

We have 4 McDonalds, all pretty close to exits. The Quinn Drive one posted above is actually the closest, but it is inside a Wal Mart, which makes it perpetually filthy and crowded.....
If you have kids, the one with the playground is actually only about 1 minute past the Quinn Drive one, take the Modeland Road exit - when you come off the exit it splits off in two directions, you take the HWY 40 south exit, and then stay to the right headed toward Hwy 22, at the lights, merge right. McDonalds is your second stoplight, on the right. There is also a nice one off the Front Street exit, one with a fireplace and sofas but no playground, and it is more of a drive thru the city.
If you want to stay and play in Sarnia we have a fantastic public park with sandy beach, huge playground, and fun petting zoo for the kids.....Canatara Park is located just off the bridge, a great place for the kids to run around a bit, or right under the bridge is another wonderful park with huge playground, and a place to feed the fish.....(just a shameless plug for sarnia;) ) Have a great trip!!

Shhhhh.....Sarnia is the best-kept secret in the province. No one knows how great it is to live there.

We are life-long Torontonians and when we had to re-locate in Sarnia for 3 yrs for a job situation I literally had to be dragged there-when it was time to come back to Toronto I had to be dragged away, as I loved living in Sarnia.
We had an apt on the Beach overlooking Canatara Park with a view that couldn't be beat. The people were so friendly and the lifestyle calm. I would go back anytime.

I would recommend taking the Front Street exit to the McDonalds-only a Sarnian would refer to the short drive along the river as "a drive thru the City"! It is very easy to get back on the highway from this point,as well.

If you want to skip McDonalds and head for a Tim Hortons you wouldn't even need directions as there is one on almost every corner. I did miss Starbucks and Second Cup when we were there, but I hear a Starbucks has since opened.

You could also get chips from the trucks under ther Bridge!

Enjoy your short time in Sarnia.

:scared1: AHHHHH you're so right, I've become ONE of them!!!!! When we moved back here from Toronto, I was out driving with my mom, and we came to a stop sign, we had to wait for a couple minutes, as there were a bunch of cars coming down the road. My mom starts to grumble and compain about "the traffic is horrible today", and I was :rotfl2: laughing, cause I had just moved away from my daily commute from Mississauga credit river valley into downtown TO, and I thought that was the funniest thing I had ever heard.....5 cars = a bad traffic day in sarnia, so you are tooo right, McDonalds on Front is really less than a 10 minute drive from the highway...only in Sarnia is that a 'drive thru the city'.....I may even have to tell DH about this one, he will be frightened to see that I am indeed, turning into my mom.:rolleyes1

I was also surprised to see Sarnia on the posts. I grew up in Sarnia and now work in Sarnia....it is a fabulous place to live and raise my kids. I would take the cut-off just as you are coming off the bridge (the first one) then you will get to Front street and turn right, left on exmouth (go past the Tim Hortons) and right on Christina.....and it is on the right.....or, when you are on Front street, go straight to get a view of the river and turn left on Nelson and then right on Christina.....re-trace your steps to get back on the 402.

Have a safe trip!

I PMed some easy directions.

I like the fries under the bridge, but prefer Ken's fries (Stratford)

Thanks for replies :goodvibes

Only 9 days to go.....

Another former Sarnia gal here. My parents still live there and will always consider it "home" even though we live in London now:love:

OMG! I love Ken's fries!!! I used to live in Stratford after a move from TO....now I live in Wingham...I see you are near Lake Huron...whereabouts?

Great info here :cool1: as I will be coming and going thru Sarnia when we go on our trip in October. I was reading all the names of streets etc. and remembering Sarnia. I was there a few years ago for a big figure skating competition. One of my girls was big into competing but sadly quit and now plays hockey ...I really liked Sarnia. We stayed at a really cool hotel by the river..it was colonial looking....can't remember name but I think it was on Christina St. and we ate at a really nice steak house down the road a bit....

give you a hint...follow 4 to Clinton, turn west on 8.

My daughter was in the Silverthorne competition this year.

Goderich is a beautiful town! Good for your DD, I hope she enjoyed her skating and was happy with results. My DD let the competitions get to her...for years she was always able to place and then when she moved up to senior skating it got harder of course and she couldn't take it. She didn't like to lose. The last time she skated she did her absolute best but placed 5th...I kept telling her 5th wasn't so bad but she kept stressing she had come last!! (only 5 skaters) :headache:

She likes having the whole hockey team behind her when she skates now.;) One of my other DD's plays with her. She took to hockey amazingly well, no problem switching...it is funny tho' because sometimes if team is waiting for a call from ref or something and they are just killing time on ice she starts spinning, jumping etc. She looks pretty funny in all her hockey gear.....:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Nice to see a Dis fan so close......
