ENPR Special: Sources say McCain Veep Pick to Come This Week
07/21/2008

Sources close to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign are suggesting he will reveal the name of his vice presidential selection this week while Sen. Barack Obama is getting the headlines on his foreign trip. The name of McCain's running mate has not been disclosed, but Mitt Romney has led the speculation recently.

I am definately rooting for Romney, but the others aren't exactly 'chopped liver'. Who do you like?
I am hoping that Obama picks Gavin Newsome!

Other bloggers say Novak is jumping the gun a bit. The announcement will likely not come this week, but before 8/8. Time will tell. I think the JM campaign is resisting the temptation to make splashy headlines this week while BHO makes time overseas.

Romney suits me as veep; he'd make an adequate back up. It would be a shame to "waste" Jindal on such a dead-end job. I'm not a big Rudy fan.

I'm thinking Mitt Romney. :thumbsup2

It's still, what, about a month until the conventions? It seems too soon for a VP announcement from either side.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Romney. My outside-the-box pick for McCain is Rep. Eric Cantor of VA, but I doubt it'll be him.

Obama would be nuts to choose Newsom. After what little I just read about him on wikipedia, he wouldn't play well in the south. If he's serious about competing in red states, Obama would do well to choose a moderate like Sam Nunn.

I just don't think Romney would add much.

I just don't think Romney would add much.

Romney would be attractive for many conservatives. He would enhance McCain's prospects in Michigan. Romney is a great speaker. He is young without being "too young". He has been a governor, which is a huge plus and he is a very successful businessman who understands the economy. He would add a whole lot!

I'd actually like to see him pick Colin Powell, if he could talk him into it, but Romney would probably be a good choice. I'm thinking Norman Schwarzkopf might make a good Secretary of Defense and Newt Gingrich a good Secretary of State. Of course, everything would be better if I could be King! ;)

"Max Linn, the Reform Party candidate for governor, says that in both 1984 and 1998, he and Crist discussed Crist's sexual orientation.

But good ole Charlie is getting a wife soon!:rotfl2:

I would love to see McCain choose Romney. He better be quick about his choice or Barack will be on his way home.

No one likes Crist?

I was thinking, does McCain really need another white haired guy on his ticket? Crist isn't old, but McCain should at least pick someone with maybe red hair, brown, salt and pepper. Definitely not white hair.

I would like to see him pick Colin Powell also. I think the Bush Administration gave him a raw deal.

If not Powell would love to see Romney.

Both would be a ticket I could support.

McCain needs a running mate who is conservative. Powell is not conservative.

As a conservative I do not totally approve of McCain, but I will vote for him. If Obama is elected I think we will have to move to Australia or Canada or someplace (almost anyplace) else.

As far as Rommey is concerned, he was a client of the law firm I worked for and I have great respect for him. I do need to point out that when he was governor of Massachusetts he did not raise taxes, but instituted a great many "fees" in lieu thereof. My hope was for Guiliani.

Although I would like to see Powell or Rice - I don't think either is going to happen. Powell because he has implied his support to BO. Rice because she has said she is leaving politics (and because she would be too easy a target for the "McSame" crowd).

I like Jindal - but I think it is too soon for him. I'd like to see him develop and then come out in a big way later on.

I'm going to go with Romney. His business background is a huge plus.

I do think McCain should make the announcement before BO gets back -- it would still his thunder.

I just don't think Romney would add much.

Romney seems very fake and has flip-flopped so much on social issues that it would be hard for people to take him seriously. All politicians kow-tow to the electorate and change their positions according to the political headwinds, but Romney seems especially transparent as the politician who will say and do anything to get elected.

Any governor who trash talks his state when traveling is someone who is not to be trusted.

I'm really fed up and disappointed with all of our national political leaders, GOP and Dem alike, this year.

Hmmm, funny, I feel that way about Obama.

I wonder how many really vote based on abortion stance? That was his big flip flop. Personally, I don't vote based upon abortion stances. I wonder how many conservatives do? There are a lot of fiscal conservatives who aren't necessarily social conservatives.
