McCain Outrage!!!!

Each side is talking about the "secretive" meetings. You just need to seek out all the reports, and choose the ones you believe are the most accurate.

From what I've read and heard on the news shows tonight - a deal was agreed in principle. Reluctantly by the republicans who feel their president has really boxed them in to go against their "free market, small government principles", and proudly by the Democrats who worked hard to put tax payer protections in it, including bipartisan regulation.

Then McCain campaign comes in - and the deal is off. Not only that -- but with a counter proposal that no one ever looked at and which contains LESS REGULATION.

Sorry - but I tend to agree with all the Democratic quotes. The Republicans are trying NOT to be bipartisan at all - but to have the democrats completely responsible for this semi-unpopular bailout - for a crisis that was caused on during a Republican Administration (even if a prior administration's policies 7 years ago contributed to this crisis - those in charge should have seen it coming).

McCain should have given his opinion through congressional channels and not politicized this debate <- again, my humble opinion.......

So let me get this straight. The Repubs don't agree with the Dem plan, so it's the Repubs that are partisan. Got it. Not the Dems, Not both of them. Right. Ok. Carry on...

Yeash -- the Dems had a deal worked out with themselves...

The hard-core repubs in the house do not want EARMARKS on this bailout bill. ENOUGH with the earmarks!!!

Just pass the bailout, with oversight and a requirement to pay it back and not just put the money in the geral gund and the the Repubs will sign off. Isn't $700 Billion enough without putting on more EARMARKS!

As was previously posted, a press conference was held with both republicans and democrats present.

A snippet from the referenced article is below. There is no mention of EARMARKS.

Under the plan, the Treasury secretary would get $250 billion immediately and could have an additional $100 billion if he certified it was needed. The last $350 billion could be blocked by a vote of Congress under the arrangement, designed to give lawmakers a stronger hand in controlling the unprecedented rescue.

The agreement would also set up standards to prevent excessive executive compensation. It would require most profits to be used to reduce the national debt, and establish an oversight board and require regular status reports to Congress. The measures, however, are subject to change and appeared to be in flux after the close of the White House meeting.

There were lingering concerns Thursday afternoon, especially among House Republicans, about whether the package included enough protection for taxpayers.

Despite the hand-wringing, Dodd and Republican Sen. Bob Bennett, among others, said earlier that negotiators from Congress and the administration had arrived at a deal that could win approval. Other key lawmakers said that after days of bare-knuckles negotiations there was little of note left to resolve.

Wall Street showed its pleasure cautiously. The Dow Jones industrials closed some 196 points higher, though that was down from larger gains earlier in the day.

The plan's centerpiece is for the government to buy the toxic, mortgage-based assets of shaky financial institutions in a bid to keep them from going under and setting off a cascade of ruinous events, including wiped-out retirement savings, rising home foreclosures, closed businesses, and lost jobs.

The Bush administration has made concessions almost daily to demands from the right and the left from its original three-page proposal, including agreeing to limit pay for executives of bailed-out financial institutions and give taxpayers an equity stake in rescued companies

Well, most of us on this post are clear who we are voting for.....well, I'm voting for McCain and their ain't much that he can do now to change that. He's got my vote!

Maybe you should read some of the recent articles posted on the news websites - including Fox.

The house republicans were never on board with the deal. Just because Barney Frank and Chris Dodd said there was one in the senate does not mean the entire congress was in accordance.

When did Republican Sen. Bob Bennett become a Democrat?

:rotfl:

BTW, apparently Paulson thinks the Republicans are trying to ruin the deal as well.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/stephanopoulo-6.html

Paulson walked into the room where Democrats were caucusing after today's meeting at the White House and pleaded with them, "Please don't blow this up."

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chair of the House Financial Services Committee was livid saying, "Don't say that to us after all we've been through!"

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "We're not the ones trying to blow this up; it's the House Republicans."

"I know, I know," Paulson replied.

I am glad that Senator McCain is such an honest person, when he says he is suspending his campaign he means it...

here are some quotes from TODAYS interview with B. Williams
I have a record of putting my country first...

I am going to do what I think is right for this country...

we had greatest increase in spending... we have to reign it in and I know how to do that

Glad this interview had nothing to do with him wanting to become president.

riding in on a white horse is some kind of stunt like chosing Palin was. odd.

:dance3:
When did Republican Sen. Bob Bennett become a Democrat?

:rotfl:

When did Bob Bennett become all of the Republicans? The conservative republicans were never on board. The minority leadership was never on board.

You did say McCain was having a press conference.....not Obama right?

John McCain needs to ride in on his white horse and save us all from economic collapse, and he feels the debate needs to be postponed for the national interest...then why does he have time to appear on cbs last night, clinton intiative today, abc, nbc, cbs, and cnn tonight....but does not have time to debate for 90 minutes tommorow. I thought he was susepnding his campaign, then why is sarah palin out on the trail today, and why are all of his campaign offices open for business today....One word LIAR!!

McCain to do round of network interviews tonight

John McCain will appear on all three network newscasts tonight, a top aide said.

McCain is at the White House meeting with President Bush, Barack Obama and congressional leaders now and will tape interviews with NBC, ABC and CBS after the West Wing session.

McCain also appeared in a taped interview last night with Katie Couric on CBS.

Aides are still in wait-and-see mode on whether they'll attend the debate but are prepared to have the candidate jet down to Memphis, the closest major airport to Oxford, as late as tomorrow afternoon if a deal is reached.

UPDATE: Barack Obama will also appear on all three network newscasts tonight, aides said.

The presence of both candidates on the national news underscores just how intent each is on staying visible and appearing engaged as the federal government crafts a massive bailout of Wall Street.

Hmmmm... kickin' things up a notch today, aren't you. :rolleyes1 Ummm, just keep fighting the fight? :surfweb:

McCain is talking to the media as a LEADER in the Senate trying to get a deal to bail out the financial industry that doesn't stick it to the taxpayers and nationalize that industry. That is his job. Even Harry Reid said McCain's participation was essential to a bill being agreed upon. Obama's job, as a junior senator who has never once crossed the aisle to reach an agreement on anything, is to sit there and learn. McCain's leading. Obama's learning. And the dems in Congress are…doing nothing, as usual.

Actually of all the McCain interviews I saw today, he never mentioned details of that deal you are talking about. And just so you know, the MEDIA does not vote in the Senate so speaking them has nothing to do with this deal.

He just went on about how he will put the country first, and that he knows how to get the job done. Just imagine one of his campaign ads.
