I just noticed that McAfee SiteAdvisor http://www.siteadvisor.com/ has disboards slated in the most risky class of sites. Might be something the Webmaster wants to dispute with them as the only issue they show is "mild" level spamminess.

I had never seen McAfee site advisor so I downloaded it and tried it out.
I see 2 huge issues

1. It just tells you a site has exhibited "Risky Behavior". The fact that it doesn't specify what risky behavior makes it useless. No site has time to chase nonsense like that. If they listed a specific issue fine but that is meaningless

2. Their default install wants to push Yahoo down your throat and take over your search. Basically they are guilty of what they claim to try to prevent

All that is fine and good, but it does not help those who has McAfee as their virus protection.

I'm sure it was a coincidence, but our home computer caught the nasty Security Shield virus on Thursday when all this started. (And McAfee totally missed this one.) I think the virus is gone; however, I'm posting from another computer. If my DH found out I was browsing a "dangerous site" from our home computer, he'd ban me from it.

I think it may have something to do with the emails some of us got on Wednesday night/Thursday morning regarding "Get In the Loop." They may be considering it unsolicited spam.

I'm sure the Disboards is safe, but you're going to have to convince a lot of skeptical people. Including my husband, who is convinced you can get a virus by downloading a song from iTunes.

But put yourself in our shoes. If I were to put up a web page that says "Disney World Causes Cancer" with no explanation, no details or anything would you never visit Disney again? If they let me know what the risky behavior was I would certainly take care of it, if possible but they give no information which really makes them useless. There are other anti-virus programs out there that rank higher that McAfee

and will give more information.

Looks like you did something, because the Disboards is, once again, a green checked site with nothing wrong.

Thanks. :thumbsup2 Now, I can go back to planning our Disney trip for next year. :cloud9:

Or play around on the Community Board.

Sure, but this is a corporate laptop, and I can't change it. Norton and McAfee are the only two players as far as big companies go; to ignore them is kind of like saying it doesn't matter if your site doesn't work with IE because there are other browser options. Sure are, but the vast majority don't use them.

I agree that McAfee isn't clear about why you are being flagged - and despite what LadyBeBop says, I'm still showing you red flagged. But that is why they give a mechanism for the site webmaster to request more information on the McAfee site.

No question it's a catch 22. There are a 100 different anti-virus and anti-malware programs and we simply don't have the resources to go chasing them all. When we get warnings I do check some of the test sites and I also look at the server. The boards software doesn't change often so file sizes etc are a pretty good indicator. Beyond that unless we get the warning from multiple systems or, as several programs do, give us a hard error there isn't much we can do.
