Mazatlan, Mexico

I am scheduling the tour with you on August 17, 2005 for my family. My mom and mother in law might not be interested in spending the hour at the beach. Is there shopping nearby to Tony's where they could walk around and spend a little more time shopping? Or is Tony's far from any shopping areas. We would like to start the day out a little earlier so we get to see more of Mazatlan. It looks like with the Lum family we will have 6 adults, two kids and two infants. We look forward to seeing you great city. In fact next year maybe we will come down in the summer for 4-6 days vacation and do more touring with you. My wife likes the warm weather and great pools in Mexico.

Hi Susie:

Just tell your boys to go to deck 6 and follow their noses and bring their appetite......... :rotfl2:

lkohawaii: wish you were on this cruise :flower:...we would be starting a new dining sensation..."SPAM MUSUBI R US" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Alohatee...I guess I'll just have to get myself onboard the magic again when you sail. Maybe my fairygodmother will come and grant me that wish. We could proabably make a spam musubi concession and pay for us to cruise again. :grouphug: I would love to come see Frank.

Frank-Dawn came back and we were talking about how we wished we had bought more vanilla to bring back. I guess we just have to come again. How's your new van coming?

You guys will have so much food to eat I don't know if you'll miss your spam musubi's. Only thing is there wasn't any calrose rice...of course I didn't ask but they didn't serve it on the menu. I bet they would fry up that spam for you if you asked though.
Oh, and those of you who go with Frank remind him to show you the location of his new B&B. I think he said it might have been up for sale. I hope one day Frank I'll be able to come back and your new B&B will be ready..the one with the nice plaza in the middle.

While I'm back in school welcoming the kids back, all of you will be sailing on the Magic. I'm sure we'll be thinking of you on those days....wishing I were there too.

My DH and DS will be riding with Randi in the am on Wednesday 3 August. DD and I are going to El Cid. The plan is for DH and DS to meet us there when they finish up with Randi.

Will they need to go all the way back to where the Magic is docked to get a taxi?

Is there a landmark in the pool area at El Cid that you would suggest we use as a meeting point? I've heard the resort is huge and I can just imagine DH and DS wandering aimlessly looking for us.

Randi told me that she would have them back to the ship by 2:00pm. Our cruise docs state that we depart Mazatlan at 5:00pm so it may not be worth it for them to try to meet us at El Cid since I'll want to be on my way back to the ship no later than 4:00pm.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks.

littleowensmommy-Did you know that Victor's is by the beach? After you get off the horses you can go swim at the beach right there. Me and DS didn't go horseback riding...so I went to Victor's to wait for the rest of my family. Randi charged a small fee to get us there. Then when the rest of my family came back we could have swam at the beach until 2...we decided to go meet Frank as soon as we finished lunch. I think you have to be back onboard by 4:30. Of course the beach at Stone Island can't be as lavish as El cid. Just an idea in case you weren't aware of that option.

drlum I think everything is possible. When you arrive, I can give you a few suggestions. I think it makes it easier this way. If you do have other questions please email me.
littleowensmommy I think that lkohawaii gave you a good idea.If you do want to go to El Cid, go to Castilla section. There are 4 Hotels, go to Castilla. Meet around the bar, it is by the pool. Perhaps if your husband talks to Randi, he can be sent out a little earlier to catch a taxi. Randi is very flexible like me and I am sure that she can arrange something. There are taxis passing by the embarcadero (dock) and they should charge around 12 us per taxi one way. It is easy to get a taxi back to the ship from El Cid. Aprox time to get back: 25 minutes. If you leave by 3.30 you will get to the ship around 4 (maybe 3.40, deppending on the taxi driver, hahaha).
Any other questions please ask.
lkohawaii I am still buying the lottery tickets to see if I can buy that little Hacienda and turn it into a bed and breakfast! hahaha. Have a great week!

Wow, I have been a little absent due to personal business, but it took me a while to find the thread (page 6). Well if anyone has questions or comments please go ahead! See you around.

Hi Frank! Do you remember me? My two boys were with you on June 29! Do you remeber the name of the dish you told me to try at Tony's that I loved so much? It was chunks of beef with onions and broth and spices and melted cheese served all bubbly with tortillas. I was telling a mexican friend of mine about it but I couldn't remmeber the name of it. It was delicious!

Sure wish we were on the Magic, returning to Mazatlan right now!

Frank,
My family would like to rent some jet skis/wet bikes. Do you know of anywhere we could do that? Also we have not made any plans or booked any excursions in Mazatlan. Do you have any suggestions for a family of 4 (kids 16 & 11) we enjoy beaches but I would also like to see the city and I love to shop!
Thanks, Vickie

Debogan Of course I remember you. It was a real pleasure to meet you personally. The dish at Tonys on the beach is called Molcajete. I have tried it other places and it is good but I prefer the one at Tonys. It is excellent! I also hope that you come back to Mazatlan. If there is any other thing I can help you with, please ask.

SchultzFamily You can find the jetskies somewhere around El Cid and also around Fiesta Inn Hotels. I heard that they are about $50us for a half hour, but check because I have been told by others, not by the ones that rent them. I am sending you a PM also. Have a good evening!

It has been warm today! Although it is our rainy season, many people thinks that it rains everyday. Actually, most of the rain is at night. Sometimes in the day but more at night. When it does rain, it really pours! Then after the sun comes out and it becomes a beautiful day. I hope that if you visit us, you have a great day! I ordered sun for wednesdays (cruiseship day) on the internet, but you never know with mother nature, hahahaha.

Have a great week!

Are umbrellas or rain ponchos needed for our open air trolley or wing it when it pours? :umbrella: Well, at least it will cool us off for a while.... you know especially those who get now and then those power surges. :rotfl: We can't wait to be singing in the rain with you. :smooth:

Yesterday it rained slightly in the morning and the trolley did its job. To me it felt great, it was much cooler, but later in the morning when the sun came out, it got a little bit warm. It was a great day though. The beach was great and people were in the water. I checked for jelly fish, but in the area where I was, there were none. It was nice.
I am happy that there were no jelly fish because many people like you come to our beaches and then can not go in because of them. Yesterday the beach was full and that makes me happy. But you know, no one can control mother nature!
Anyways, it is noce to hear from you and see you soon!

Hi Frank,
It's Michele. Well my hand is better, but I did go to the doc here. Tetnis shot and five days antiboctics just to make sure. But I feel fine and am doing fine. It was itchy on the boat and swelled more but some benedryl helped also.
We had a great time with you on our tour.
I hope our pics on the hill come out. Still have to take my film in.
Everybody here gets a kick out of the happy hour 3 for 1 strap. (the beer holder necklace).
Talk to you later.
Michele :cool1:

Frank. What is the name of the lobster and shrimp dish that you recommend at Tony's? Also there was another dish that I had read about that you recommended to someone at Tony's? Do you still get a free drink with the meal? :sunny:

Are there jet ski's for rent near Tony's and is the beach safe for swimming. Are there beach chairs and umbrellas to use? :umbrella:

Shopping. Yes we are interested in shopping in town. Maybe start out earlier so we have more time in town. Also interested in going to the copper shop and the nicer pottery shops in addition to the more touristy shopping areas. Hopefully these nicer copper and pottery shops are still good value and not SUPER over priced tourist traps.

Look forward to seeing you in about 20 or so days. pirate: :sunny:

The plate that I recommend is the Imperial Platter, it has 2 lobsters with 6 jumbo shrimp and comes with a soup or salad and also vegetables, potato and rice on the side. It is for 2 people. MMMMM! The other dish is excellent also and it is called Molcajete. It is beef or chicken or mixed and cooked in a tomatto sauce with beans and rice on the side. Excellent also.
At Tonys they have tables on the sand with umbrellas. The Jet skis, rent around a block away I have heard. We can find some.
We can start earlier and the copper shop I just saw is closed till October. He is American I think and this is our slow season so he took a vacation I guess. But you will be able to see several nice places for shopping.
See you soon!

I am really sorry about the bee sting. I am glad that it is better. It was a real pleasure to meet you and your nice family. I had a great day also. If by any chance you come back to Mazatlan please email me so we can meet again. I am happy that you remembered the 3 for 1 happy hour thing, hahahaha :rotfl2:
Hope the pictures come out good, if not you will have to come back and take them again! :cool1:

See you again!
