i have always enjoyed talking to the Mayor of Main Street while waiting for the parade, but during a trip in Jan. there was a woman walking down Main Street saying she was running for Mayor of Main Street. i found this to be interesting i was unable to get close enough to ask any questions maybe some one here can answer them
do other cast members walk around to campaign?
How is the election won?
who is able to campaign?
what happen to the old Mayor?

I haven't heard of this but you raise some vey interesting questions. Anybody know? :)

I met the Mayor,in 2001,have a pic w/him and my hubby. I had no idea CM's could "run" for it :confused3 .I'd be interested to hear more on this....

I didn't even know there was a mayor? :rotfl:

I think we have gone just way too comando on our last trips (maybe thinking I'd never return) This time i want to stop and smell the roses a little bit.

We are a Magical Gatherings group of 8, 2 families but have 7-day passes. One family has never been before. Any tips or suggestions to ease our pace to see things like "The Mayor" or others but still let our friends see all there is to see.

"Running for Mayor" is part of the script that the Main Street actors have. There are various scenarios that the actors have to work from -- one of them is campaigning and running for Mayor. It does not involve the rest of the CMs at WDW and is not something that is "won" or "lost." Of course ... it's also entirely possible that the "mayoral candidate" that you met was a rogue guest who decided to have some fun.

This is our "Smell the Roses" trip coming up in March.
We've been there several times and always run around like crazy.
Last year we slowed down quite a bit ie: slept later :cat:

This year we plan on actually seeing the performers that are down there rather than worrying about the rides.

Our next trip the kids will be older and "in charge" and it will be all about the rides again.

The Mayor is a riot. He got on one of those old car with me and rode up to the castle. He was waving and greeting folks all the way up the street, and introducing me in the process!!! :goodvibes If you ever meet him, play along, ask him questions about "Main Street". ;)

some of you on this thread are commenting about not going "Commando style" on your next trip, and slowing down to smell the roses. Hooray!!! I've been to Disney so many times, and have witnessed stressed out families rushing through the parks, as though their lives depended on them seeing everything all at once. It is truly amazing how much detail is missed. So often, I've seen people trampling all over the pavement where Lady and the Tramp have their "initials" embedded in the cement in front of Tony's Town Square Restaurant, or they never get to see Merlin pull the Sword out of the Stone in Fantasyland, or hear the singing lessons and hear tap shoes in an upstairs room off Main Street. Some of my best moments in time have been when I'm just sitting on a park bench in MK. Sometimes, characters have even come up to me! By all means, slow down, smell the roses, take it all in. You'll be amazed at what else is going on, while you've been racing through the parks. :hourglass :wave2:

I have met both the mayor and the woman that was running for mayor. It was funny because DH and I were on our honeymoon and the woman came up to us and grabbed my hand and was making a huge deal out of my ring, then the mayor came up (yes, at the same time) and told her to leave me alone and just because she was marveling over my "rock" didn't mean she was going to get my vote. Now, as far as I know, none of us get to vote, but it makes a funny story- don't you think??

My husband is the mayor of our adorable little town. We have never seen the mayor at MK..only read about him here. My DH would LOVE to have his picture taken with the mayor at MK...do you think we could contact him somehow and arrange for this?

You can ask as Guest Services in "Town Hall" of all places when he is available. You can do that for any character so I dont see why you couldnt do that with the Mayor.
