I've been here forever and disagree.
Personal attacks are not allowed here and are dealt with swiftly.
Differences of opinions are a fact of life and no one should feel bad if someone doesn't agree with their point of view.
And I say that with the kindest intention.
I guess it depends upon who is deciding what is considered a personal attack? I've seen personal attacks, and been a victim of them several times over the years, and they were not dealt with at all. Calling someone a liar, ignorant, etc. is a personal attack, but depending upon what section of the board one is on, I don't see them being handled at all.
I also find it creepy and weird when people cut out posts of others, or discuss personal stuff that they think they know about a poster. In the real world, that may be construed as stalking...I really can't stand that this happens on here all of the time. I know some people do it to prove others wrong, but it is very creepy, IMHO.
Posting on a discussion board will see many different opinions, but I do see that some people are not interested in those opinions, and it also seems that there are certain posters who are allowed to stir up drama. I can't stand it when people are rude to others for trying to assist others, or, when posters are negative or rude to someone who is obviously in distress - it takes a lot of gumption for some people to post very private issues on here, as they are seriously looking for help, yet there are posters who feel that calling them names or their children names, is helpful. Calling someone's husband stupid, or telling someone they raised a horrid child, is not acceptable, yet, I see this all of the time. People really need to learn to play nicer with others. This really bothers me...
I truly feel that some people hide behind their keyboard, while others are mean and rough in front of the keyboard as well. There is a way to talk to people, and some posters on here, just don't seem to know how to do that in a nice, positive manner, while others are extremely polite, giving and helpful all of the time.
It really depends upon what board you are visiting, as they all seem to have different tones, and different regular posters on them. Over the years, I've become more careful on certain boards than others, in terms of really deciding what threads I will post on. I also stay away from certain posters, as they just don't play well, no matter what board they are on.
There is still a tremendous amount of info, helpfullness and caring displayed on this DISboards on a daily basis, despite the negatives.
