Maybe I'm Crazy But I Swear The Waitors Were Talking About Me

My family and I had dinner at the Restaurant Akershus in norway this past December. As we were waiting to be seated two of the waitors keep looking at me and smiling. Then would talk back and fourth to each other in norwegian.

I don't speak norwegian but I'm almost postive they were making fun of me. My mother said that I was nuts and that the world doesn't revolve around me. I think I've heard her stay that, since I was 5 years old. This had to happen to some else at one of the other world showcase restaurant's. Thanks

You may not be too far off. Living in Texas we have many encounters with native Mexicans. Often they are caught saying things about people in Spanish assuming that no one can translate their language. I love when someone who is fluent in Spanish answers them back in their language. ("Yes, I know I have a nice behind!")

Are you sure they simply weren't discussing where to seat you and which server was "up next"?

Mike, aren't you a movie star? I haven't seen your movie, but my young daughter has. I also did a quick search of the Disney website and found the following mention of you: click here. I am sure those waiters recognized you.

Very funny Everyone

They were not talking about what table I would be sitting at because they were not bringing us to our table we had another waitress/hostess seat us. And they were giggiling and looking at me like they were making fun of me. I'm not crazy!!! LOL

The guys were smiling and giggling? They probably thought you were HOT!

Truthfully, N E V E R disagree with anyone that has the title of "MOM".

LOL! This is kind-of OT, but the place where I get my nails done is run by a Vietnamise woman. She will talk to you in her best English, then go off on a tangent with her co-worker - the language is funny to listen to and I can't imagine what some of those "sounds" could mean. Other neighbors who go there tease that they're saying stuff like "this lady have bad breath"!

Yes they were probably definitely making fun of you;) ! If it were me I probably would have commented -- Could you speak up my Norwegian is a little rusty and I want to practice.

The sounds like the one episode of Seinfeld...

NOW that is a GREAT response! I bet that would have put an end to it fast! LOL, I will have to remember that one!

I never take it personal when people speak in their native language in front of me. Have always been surprised about how many Americans do, however.

If the Native Americans were able to bear with it, I don't see why the descendants of the visiting pilgrims should mind it...

I'm SURE they were looking at you and talking about you! They were discussing the amazement and awe they feel about all people from Buffalo who have the drive and determination to actually live through and survive the Buffalo winters!!!:p We Buffalonians brave the freezing cold and winter elements like 7 feet of snow with absolutely NO PROBLEM!!! That is worth admiration, even from those from Norway!!!;)

Or ... Janet2K was right they remembered you from your fine perormance in your movie.:p
