I'm on a 3 wheeled scooter because I can't walk more than 200 feet, now I've got to have my finger scaned in addition to having a ticket. I can only use evey other bus, no boats and I can't get off at the resort that is shaped like a triangle that the monorail runs through. I have to have everything I own poked, probed and xrayed. I mean no offense, but the finger scanning requirement has been in place for quite some time now. At least now they have updated machines that do it in a more efficient manner.

Just curious, but why would you have to use every other bus? I've never seen a bus driver refuse to accept anyone on an ECV. As a matter of fact, they happily assist those on ECVs and they board the Disney transportation before anyone else.

Many of the complaints in your post regarding WDW are not a "problem" for thousands (and THOUSANDS) of physically impared guests.

Don't worry:

1. The finger scan should be no problem and if it is simply show your picture ID instead, the CM's are good about that.

2. 99% of the buses are equiped to take a mobility device and you will likely be boarded first.

3. You can take all of the main boats with a possible exception of the one that runs between FW and MK if the water is very low. The smaller boats between the Poly and Grand to the MK may not be equipped but you can easily use the monorial instead.

4. You can access all the monorial resorts. IIRC its been at least 10 years since the Contemporary installed an elevator to accomodate wheelchairs etc.

5. Nothing is X-rayed nor are you searched! Security does a quick bag search, pack lightly and be ready prior to entering the gate. Usually takes no more than 5 minutes extra.

6. Have a great trip and if you have any other questions or concerns try the DisAbilities forum, its about 6-7 down from here as well as this forum. Those folks have great ideas and advice about travling with a scooter and more.

My then 78 yr old Mom had a great trip with us in 2004, using the "Electric Chair" as she called it for the first time. The only new wrinkle since then is the finger scan which is a trivial thing. I can only imagine that losing one's mobility is less than pleasant, and my day will surely come, but as long as there's some form of compensation as provided by the ECV I suggest you postpone taking that long Dirt Nap and enjoy yourself at WDW.

I use a scooter while I am at Disney since you have to go through the gate not the turnstyle just hand your pass to the CM they put it through and press a button to bypass the scan. It will not be a problem.

Is there a reason you're posting here instead of down in the Disabilities Forum where there are lots of people to help you? Really...you're making this much harder than what it needs to be(and I'm sensing some bitterness,too???). Thousands upon thousands of ECV'ers go to WDW every year without a hitch. Nothing is X-rayed. You go thru a quick bag search(too quick, almost) before you enter the parks. So do the rest of us...no biggie. From my experience, guests in wheelchairs and ECV's always get loaded on the busses before anyone else. You should ahve no problem with transportation. You don't NEED to use all those forms of transportation, so why make it so tough? I'm sure(as far as the brochures go) that Disney just wants you to be prepared for your trip....and there are many experienced people just a few forums down to help you out

I see many disabled ppl in WDW! You will be well looked after I promise! As nother poster said 99% of the buses are handicapped equiped and of course you will be the first on each bus! The finger scan, really not a big deal, it can be a tiny bit annoying but its normally a very quick inconveince that we all have to deal with. WDW is one theme park that I know takes care of their handicap patrons so well so dont worry about not going here or there they will find a way to accomidate you! Pls. for your own peace of mind call DTC and speak with them about this so that they may reassure you and then GO and have a wonderful time!!

Geez, lighten up OP.

Disney goes out of their way to make guests comfortable. This includes those in ECV and wheelchairs.

As someone else pointed out, go to the Disabilities forums. Ask for assistance from people who know first hand how to get around Disney.

I'm sorry. What about being on a scooter prevents you from having your finger scanned?

I think the OP has more to do with coming to terms with a disability. My mom can barely walk now, but refuses to consider an ECV or wheelchair. A place like DL or WDW is just out of the question! Her solution in dealing with her disability is to stay home.

How I wish she'd make a different choice! I think she would enjoy life so much more if she did, and we would love to be able to enjoy her company more.

OP, I hope you choose to enjoy life despite your need for an ECV! Life is too short as it is ~ Make the most of it!

You'll be fine! The finger scanning takes very little time! Have you been to WDW in the past? Please don't panic, you'll see lots of people with ECVs, wheelchairs, strollers etc. all over the parks having a wonderful time because the CMs do go out of their way to accommodate every guest, able-bodied or not. The parks are beautiful, the staff are friendly, well just about everything is terrific there!! And as for the buses. The drivers are patient and very helpful and those buses are equipped to deal with guests with disabilities.

I'm sure it can be frustrating and I'm sorry you have to use the ECV, my Dad was in a wheelchair from the age of 50 and he found it frustrating and fought against it for the remainder of his life, which I understand but how I wish he'd have tried to gain some confidence and have quality of life anyway. Oh well, I'm getting off-track again. My point is please don't let the ECV stop you having fun. You'll have a fabulous time!

You will find some things to be a hassle but we all have some limitations.
