Last night we were watching one of those top 100 most inspiring movie shows. Well they were talking to Sean Austin. The only thing I ever saw him in was last year's "24". He was commenting about The Miracle Worker and saying that his mother said this and that about it when she was working on the film. I'm like, he doesn't look anything like Ann Bancroft.

Well, DUH, that's probably because he's Patty Duke's son. That just blew my mind.

Well...if we really want to get technical....Sean is the son of Patty Duke's second husband, Michael Tell (married for like 2 weeks - that marriage was annulled), not her first husband. Her first husband was Harry Falk, who she was married to from 1965-69.

I thought I remembered hearing, in a story about them, that they never actually confirmed who his real father is, or that Patti Duke was in denial about who it was. Something like that.

That's possible. But he was born 6 months after her marriage to Michael Tell ended (or was annulled) and about a year and a half before she married John Astin.

Sean Astin considers John Astin his father. He discusses this in his book.

IMHO, Sean Astin is a really excellant actor. I've watched him grow up The Goonies, White Water Summer, Mephis Belle, Toy Soliders, Rudy to LOTRs (an many more). His book "There and back again..an actor's tale" is a great book for anyone interested in what it means to be an actor.

Kendall and I were lucky enough to meet Sean a couple of years ago. He is a very nice person as well as a good actor.

Seems to me I remember reading that one of Sean's kids had to have medical tests done and they needed a family history done. John Astin was tested and the DNA was clear that John Astin was the father of Sean.

He did not know that his real father was rock promoter Michael Tell (who Duke married for 13 days in 1971) until a DNA test in 1994.

That's interesting. From what I've read, John Astin adopted him when he was 3, so Duke and Astin must've kept the secret to themselves from everyone until 1994.

They did- Sean didn't know John Astin wasn't his Dad til he was 14. Patty Duke refuses to believe Michael Tell is the dad, she thinks it is Desi Arnaz. Based on pictures, he looks more like Tell and DNA says it too.


I love love love love him! I have had a major crush on him since I was 12 and saw him in the Goonies. I got to meet him in Oct 2004 at his book signing in NYC and he was so nice. Finally after 18 years, I got to meet him!

I think I love him as much as FC loves Suzy and Perla.....
