Mayan Riviera?

Thanks Shoney, I may have some more questions for you. I also found a public facebook group for the 5-Barcelo resort group that seems pretty active. My kids will be 11,9, 7, and I got the impression that Azul may just be a little young for them.

Is there any kind of Lazy River at Barcelo Palace or the sister resorts? That was one thing we thought we would really enjoy at Azul Sensatori.

It has been a while since we were at the Barcelo, but there was no lazy river. I think now they have some sort of water park that you pay for ...check that though.
They do have a playground in the pool type set up at the palace and trop/colonial. It may be too young for the 11 yo.
Their kids club was great and catered to all ages.

Shoney, thanks for the help, we booked our Barcelo Maya vacation today!
I highly recommend that people use a travel agent, because mine saved me $1000 off of what I was seeing on Barcelo.com.
Family Jr. Suite at the Palace Deluxe for 5 nights. Can't wait!

We're about to book our airfare for next June! I'm so used to booking fo Disney that I keep checking what the rates are to MCO. But I'm determined to try something new.

Yes, for us, now that there are no longer cheap AirTran flights... a package came out better for us than any options for booking hotel and resort separately. For us, Orbitz was coming out cheapest. But, other vacation retailers could be cheaper for you, based on your departure gateway.

Looks like I'm too late but maybe someone else might be interested. I highly recommend the Grand Xcaret in Playa Del Carmen. We've been several times. It's fabulous. It sits between XPlor and Xcaret Park. In fact, you can walk via a canal to the Park and come and go as you please with your ticket. It takes maybe 3 minutes to walk. The beach is a lagoon which is safe for little ones as it doesn't have the crashing waves. The pools wind throughout the resort. We can't say enough about Chichen Itza. AMAZING. It does take awhile to get to from Playa Del Carmen but well worth it. We've done it a couple of times through a tour. They always include a cenote swim as well to Ik Kil. Another great place to visit is Akumal. You can snorkel with turtles right off the beach and no need for a snorkel tour.

What did you think of Xplor and Xcaret? Worth the money? Did you have kids with you?

We actually enjoy Xcaret Park very much. The underground river is not to be missed. The night show is outstanding. We haven't been to XPlor. I've read great reviews however. We have not traveled with kids in PDC but I do feel that Xcaret park would have a lot of fun and interesting things for them.
