My family has been to Disney World many times. We went in May of this year and loved the new dining plan. So we decided to return this October. I hadn't seen many reviews of the Maya Grill and we wanted to try something new. My first warning should have been that noone had posted anything about it. We arrived at 7:00 p.m. to find the restaurant dead so I thought we would get seated promptly. Not the case the host said that we had to wait our turn. That should have been my second warning. Why make someone wait when the restaurant was empty. We got seated at 8. The place was very pretty. Our waiter took forever to get our drink order and he was in a grumpy mood never smiled or anything. The couple behind us was complaining because their drinks were not filled and the never got their bread and it took 45 min for their appetizers.( 4th warning) So we received our appetizers and they were wonderful. We all ordered the Mixed grill which was fish, steak and Ribs. Again our drinks never got filled til our meal came out.
The Worst Meal arrived: It looked good on the plate til we took a bite. I have never seen 4 people spit out food so fast. The steak tasted like rotten meat. It should have been put on fear factor. Im telling you it was the worst thing I have ever tasted. After that noone wanted to try anything else. I called the waiter over and he said, "Im just the Indian let me get you the chief." That was the first smile this guy had cracked. So the chef came out and it was like he thought we were lying. He said he had served all day and had no complaints. I explained that it tasted like crap. My mom and brother were in the bathroom at this point. We explained that we had been in the Parks all day and was very hungry and then to have this. He said that he wouldn't charge us for two of the meals. Well I thought to myself what good that would do because we had wasted two credits on food that we couldn't even eat. Then the manager came over and said that he couldn't do that because the server had done put it in. Then I started getting into it with him of how this place was the biggest disappointment ever. So all that we got out of the whole thing was 1 credit added back to our plan. We wasted 3 credits on food that all we got was appetizers, and the worst desserts we have ever had. The people who work there are very shady ( act like they are made at the world) they serve the worst food on Disney property.

Sorry you had such a bad experience, I hope you had many other magical dining experiences during your trip.

Sounds like the trolls have landed. Who'd be dumb enough to sit and wait an hour for a table in any empty restaurant.. If you're going to troll here, at least make the story logical :cool1:

What exactly is a troll? :confused3

A person who hates WDW and makes up ridiculous things to make them look bad?

A person who wants to rile everyone up?

I see the word "troll" all the time here. You can't mean the cute little ones in Norway, could you?

:flower:

troll my butt!!! We have been to Disney a total of 10 times and have loved every single experiance. Why would we keep coming back? Do you know how hard it is to get reservations? Have you not seen these boards. How were we to get reservations in a hour? We had made adrs way in advance. I had high hopes for this place. We have dined in about every place on the disney property and never had trouble like this. I swear on my life that this is the truth.

Wow kinda funny we have had some of our best meals at the Maya Grill and the Pepper market. I guess it may have been an off day as it does happen at the best of places but posts like these don't sway me from eating at places or trying the things that are postes as being terrible. Most times it is just the opposite and the place is wonderfull and the food is great as is the case with all our dining experiances at the Maya Grill.

Just because someone doesn't like something, doesn't make them a troll, IMO. Read her past posts.

We have had several meals at Disney that were far below par. Now, I didn't rant about them on the internet, but, then again I just discovered it (MBs!)! Calling the worker's shady, however seems a bit over the top, but some people are jsut overly emotional.

That's a rough experience, and they didn't do a good job of making it right with you. Although we often stay at CSR, we had never tried Maya. A few weeks ago we had the breakfast buffet which I thought was quite good. We had good service too. Sounds like we narrowly escaped a disaster. Thanks for the info. :earsboy:

We had the same meal in September and it was fantastic. The fish that came with the platter (some kind of trout) was the best fish I have ever eaten. I loved the steak, and I am not a big steak eater. The service was the best we receieved our whole trip, and we left a huge tip (on top of the 15% the dining plan allows for).

I hate to see posts saying that a restaurant is horrible just because they had a bad experience there.

But is it any different than declaring a restaurant "wonderful" just because you had a good meal there?

As far as the troll thing--I think the poster is just young and overly emotional and dramatic with his/her statements. The poster does make reference to "mom and brother".

We have done just that. Called Kona Cafe at 5:30 on a Saturday afternoon and got a PS for 6:30 that evening.

very classy thread title...nice way to guarantee what you post won't be taken seriously
