We are trying to branch out this time so we thought we would try this place out last night. Is it any good? Also on allears there are no desserts listed??? Do they not have any?

If you could eat anywhere where at a resort or MK where would it be? I am still on the fence about this place so any suggestions would be great. We don't have the hopper passes so it has to be MK or a resort!

Thanks in advance for any info!

We like to end at a resort too. Cal Grill has GREAT views, you get an amazing meal and still see MK, it's a bittersweet meal. ;)

Personally I like to end at MK as well and prefer Crystal Palace. It allows me to stay in the park I want, have good food, a cute atmosphere and pretend I am a kid again when the characters come around. lol
I love getting done with a good dinner and stepping outside into "magic", it is quick to whatever ride/attraction I wish to get in next and not alot of travel or walking time. JMO

Maya Grill does have desserts! The menu is OK, we use it as a backup location if we don't feel like venturing far from the resort and have cancelled another ADR. It's usually easy to get an ADR for it, but sometimes we just walk up and can get seated.

I cancelled the Crystal Palace because the only ressie I could get was for lunchtime and we are already having Breakfast there with Pooh. And California Grill is booked solid plus I only have one TS meal left. The menu at Maya didn't look terrible but honestly nothing is moving me this time. Here is a list of the ones we have so far:

Crystal Palace
Coral Reef
Chefs de France
Cape May Clambake
50's Prime Time Cafe
Whispering Canyon
Maya Grill

Should I maybe try to get CRT for dinner on a cancellation? I thought if I got a late dinner we could be in the park after closing a little for some extra magic :rolleyes1

I like Maya Grill, they do have desserts, can't remember what but I know we had dessert. If you are staying at CSR, its nice to be at your resort. However, its not really comparable in atmosphere to eating at the MK or at a monorail resort.

My faves at the MK are:

Plaza Inn
Crystal Palace
Tony's

And on the monorail I like:
Chef Mickey's
O'Hana (my fave)
1900 Park Fare
GF Cafe
Kona

The last meal is always a bit sad, so fo rme, I'd choose something besides Maya Grill which while very good, would be a bit of a downer on your last night since its really not Disney at all and sort of dark and dreary in there. But I loved the food, one of the best steaks I have ever had.

Oh and California Grill is very good, but very expensive on or off the DDP.But it would be quite a way to end the trip!

I would vote for Narcoossee's. The great view makes for a nice way to say "goodbye" to the World, and the food is supposed to be really good (I haven't been able to try it yet).

I thought about Narcoosses....maybe I should dump the Whispering Canyon and do that? Thought lets be real the kids would like WC better.....crap! Last time was so easy as it was our first time on the DDP and we had never really had sit downs...now that we have tried some and know what we like this is much harder AND the kids are older and have opinions now! LOL

I would go anywhere but Maya Grill. I think there are many more resort restaurants with better food, ambience, etc.

Are you staying at CSR? I don't think Maya Grill has good enough reviews to actually seek it out otherwise.

If you want something different near MK how about The Wave?
For the kids -- Ohana.

If you don't mind the trip, for branching out how about Kouzzina?

We are staying at CBR but I haven't really read anything about Shutters....eat, pool, pack, bed might be nice. I thought about the Wave too. We did Ohana last time and dh didn't love the food. I am going to look at the Wave menu again!

Shutters: Plain food, decently prepared, but no ambiance at all. It's a separate room at the end (or beginning depending on where you enter) of the food court.

When we stayed at CB, we actually made an ADR for Maya Grill at the last minute one night, better food, and at least it's a real restaurant. Shutters seems to be an afterthought, but that's just MHO.

I agree with the OP, Maya Grill only makes sense if you're staying at CSR (we do ofen) or you want to check out the grounds and the resort too.

I agree with everything you said! We like Maya and Shutters, but I am not sure I'd make a special trip to either one unless I was staying there. I have had very good meals at both, but Shutters does feel like an extension fo the food court and Maya is sort of dark and dreary and not that inviting. But the food at both was very good, Shutters had the best prime rib I have ever had in my life and very good coconut shrimp.

We did Shutters the last night of our CBR trip a couple of years ago. I had planned on Kona I think, but we were so tired, it was raining cats and dogs and it was nice to go back to the hotel, sit in the hot tub one last time, then clean up, have a quick dinner and then walk around the resort one last time before heading to bed. I waffle on a "special" meal last night and something just quick and easy. Just depends on how long we've been there and how depressed I am! Sometimes going to something in the parks or on the monorail just makes me sadder the last night!

My dh loved GF Cafe too and that is right off the monorail and it's super pretty. I will have to check these menus again...where is the Wave again? Contemporary?

I'm not sure if you meant a MK area resort for a ressie, but I'd like to throw out BOMA at the AKL as your last night restaurant choice. It is a tradition for my DD and I to go there each trip. The hotel itself is a destination. We love to walk around the whole place, soak in the ambience, sit by the pool and people watch, then wander over to the savannah to watch all of the beautiful animals. If you have a young'un, they also have a decent playground right next to the flamingos. The restaurant itself is delicious. So many food choices, and everything is outstanding. We also like to sit out at the firepit for storytelling. Boma is a must do for every vacation...good luck with whatever you choose!

I didn't realize that you could watch the savannah while there? I might have to look into that as well...choices choices....

Oh yes, we have spent much time looking out! And they have CMs from Africa who are out there to talk to you and share their experiences from their countries with you. It is always magical and you can get right up close to the animals sometimes!

I was just going to mention Boma, too. The AK Lodge is beautiful, and there are often children's activities in the lobby.

I've been to the Maya Grille, and while it's fine if you're staying at the CSR, I wouldn't make a special trip to try it. Boma and AKL are different, though. :)

Ok thank you all for your help! After many hours of menu viewing I just booked BOMA for our last night! We did eat there last time and dh thought it wasn't great for the kids. But the boys are older now and they like fancy food so the grilled meats look great! Plus you get the zebra domes there right? Which dh LOVED! Thanks again for all your help!
