Hi Helen - when in May are you going?

The last Monday in May is Memorial Day and so there is an increase in the crowds for that weekend although when we were there over that weekend, though quite busy we didn't think it was too bad.

It does however get hot - not totally predictable as in May 2002, there was a very unusual cold spell. In fact at night-time it got very chilly! We were there that year and it was VERY unusual for May.

May is our fave time to go to Florida - closely followed by October.

We've been twice in May and once early June and each time the weather was roasting, quite humid some days and only once did we have a few afternoon showers (that was the early June trip).

The crowds aren't too bad, and we spent Memorial Weekend down at the beach - now that was PACKED because loads of people head down for a long weekend to the coast, fair enough, but the beach was so huge there was plenty of room - but parking could have been a problem if we didn't have a parking space for the week at our hotel.

All depending when you go in May, you can get some good offers because the kids aren't out of school until mid-end of June.

Would not hesitate to recommend May, it would be my favourite time to go again:sunny:

Another vote for may.
We were there this year for 3 weeks, its hot, enough to give a very good tan!,no rain and shorts and t's the whole time, the air con is alittle cool, but you get that any time of the year.

Crowds are minimal, and the longest wait time we saw was 10 minutes, some rides were walk on!!.

Memorial day is a different story, but we plan well and did non park things instead.

It was that good, that i wouldnt think about going at other times of the year, and were already planning may 2005 for 3 weeks in May!!

Jules

Thanks for the replies and the info.

I go in Oct as this is the only time of the year that my DH can get 2+weeks at the same time as the schools.

I posted the question for a family of 3 who are planning to go to Orlando either May or Oct and I could only give them an opinion on Oct.

I now only wish I could go in May and Oct - I'm allowed to dream - lol

May is an ideal time to visit.
Hence it is when we usually go , next year including, despite it not being the ideal time regarding the school holidays.
Fly drive prices tend to be more reasonable too.

Crowds are generally pretty light , possibly a bit heavier towards the end of the month.

Only problem we have had is that the weather has been hotter than normal, we tend to go early in the month - this year the temps. were in the low 90s , usually it tends to peak in mid 80s.
The pattern seems to be changing generally speaking though with the weather more unpredictable.
The evening downpours still occur though, especially when we visit MGM for the evening, good tip if you want to stay dry do not go to MGM when we are there!!

Helen - we've been the last 2 October's - I'm afraid this year has put us off a bit because the crowd levels were quite high - that was from the 16-20th, our first week only were we in Orlando. The week after that was a doddle, according to people on these boards and people we met whilst down at the beach. I think the Fairy Tale Package on offer was very well taken up so most of the resorts were very busy - we got the Poly ok. But even in Hard Rock Hotel, the Friday night we stayed there was packed, not a room to be had, because of Universal's Halloween parties - they were all sell outs at the weekends.

The crowds were definitely higher than in any May time we've been, but last October they were very low, so either last year we were incredibly lucky, or may be the visitor pattern is changing.

Hi Annie

I agree that the crowds this Oct were much higher than usual.

We've been to Orlando in Oct for the last 5 years and this is the 1st time we've had crowds so large and some of the wait times were very long.

I'm booked again for next Oct, only time DH can get his hols at the same time as the schools, and hope the crowds this year were a one-off!!
