Hi, as you know we are planning to go with friends in 2012, and I was hoping we would go in October (we always used to enjoy October and went at that time for many years and the weather was great). But the last time our friends went was also October and they said the weather wasn't very nice.

As it is at least 10 years since we went in Oct, I was wondering whether they just had a bad year when they went, or if, (like seems to be the case over here) the temperatures in October are now more hit and miss than 10-15 years ago??

We have been in May for the last few trips, and the weather has been lovely for us, but Kai really found it too hot (but he was only 4 and he will be 8 when we go with them), so I am a bit torn.

What do you think about the October weather versus that in May??

Many thanks as usual!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I would go for October. It's a quieter time, plus you'll see the Halloween decorations and be able to visit the Food & Wine Festival. As you said yourself, you went for many years in October and the weather was great. I wouldn't make a judgement based on the one time your friends went. Anyway, as we all know, the weather can be very unpredictable- there has been rubbish weather in May too. :)

Been 8 times in Oct, twice in May. By far prefer Oct, weather is similar, only once we got a tropical storm pass thru but apart from that Oct weather is perfect. Holloween events & Food & wine festival in Oct.

I don't think there will be any significant difference weather wise for either, both are good times to go.
Your friends must have just been unlucky, however I would say May overall would be slightly hotter and quieter too.

If you want to take advantage of the special things going on in October such as Halloween I wouldn't put you off going then, but if that's not an influence in your choice I would go in May.
Based purely on the fact I think it will be warmer (not to disagree with the 2 opinions so far........honest). ;)

We went last October and it was HOT!

Only had rain twice.

We will definitely visit again that time of year! :)

It definately wasn't typical of October to be THAT hot! It felt more like July!

I would rather visit in May instead of October...if I didn't live here...mainly because isn't usually as humid as October can be. Plus...there is no hurricane thread in May as it is in October. Last fall was extremely humid until early November which is not the norm and now we are finally emerging from the coldest sustained winter since 1958...according to the local news stations.

October can be very pleasant but so can May...of course...you can't go to Halloween Horror Nights @ Universal in May. ;)

May is a great time to go :thumbsup2 Lovely weather, Low crowds.

i like both May and October (except for the last week of October, when the crowds will be heavier for memorial day)..

but between the two, i prefer October....not as hot, lighter crowds and halloween....

Very generally speaking, we have found both months to be quite similar, although if I had to say in our experience we find May to be warmer than October - at least it feels warmer, and warmer into the evening. Last October was exceptional as has been said in that it was very hot, we didn't need sweatshirts at all which is unusual for the evenings.

It's the weather at the end of the day, I think both months are lovely times to go as it's not too humid, and we have also found it to be generally dry. I would look at other reasons to choose between them such as the quieter crowds in October.

thanks everyone - I am going to try and persuade them for October - I would like to go to a MNSSHP plus it costs less DVC points in October too which will help!:thumbsup2

I have been both times but i pefer oct it was bit more quiet and not as humid both months are good but it was mainly bit cheaper for us on oct aswell

We have been in May and October, and although the humidity was a killer in October last year I would chose to go again purley because of the Halloween celebrations - especially Universal HHN.

Hi Amy!

You've got me thinking about October now too! We were originally thinking of April, but having read what people have said about October that is beginning to sond pretty good now too! Also closer to my altime fave time to go which is November!

Hope yo can get something sorted! :)
Gems

thanks everyone for giving me both sides:thumbsup2 - I will speak to my friend and see what she says:)

Hi Gems - I've really enjoyed October in the past (although granted it hasn't been for many years) and I think that would be a great alternative to April for you - happy planning!:lovestruc
