We're arriving a day early as well. That worked to our benefit in 2007 as one of our bags didn't make it when we first arrived but we were able to get it the next day before departing for the cruise.

As far as getting there, we took a taxi from the airport to the hotel (50 Euro w/tip). It was so high because the traffic was backed up (wreck?) so it took a while to get there. Normally the fare would have been about 30 Euro. Taxi from the hotel to the pier was about 20 Euro. The hotel is very close to the Cathedral and to the La Rambla. Here are the distances to nearby attractions. There is a metro station close by too.

Cathedral of Santa Eulalia - 0.1 km / 0.1 mi
Frederic Mares Museum - 0.2 km / 0.1 mi
Placa del Rei - 0.2 km / 0.1 mi
City History Museum - 0.2 km / 0.1 mi
Palau de la Musica Catalana - 0.2 km / 0.2 mi
Placa Catalunya - 0.5 km / 0.3 mi
Gran Teatre del Liceu - 0.6 km / 0.4 mi
Arc de Triomf - 0.7 km / 0.5 mi
Las Ramblas - 1 km / 0.6 mi
Casa Batllo - 1.1 km / 0.7 mi
Casa Mila - 1.6 km / 1 mi
Port Olimpic - 1.9 km / 1.2 mi
Sagrada Familia - 2 km / 1.3 mi
Montjuic - 2.2 km / 1.4 mi
Placa d'Espanya - 2.5 km / 1.6 mi

Apologies for not updating the cruise list earlier with all of the recent joiners, been frantically busy at work and haven't been on Dis in a week. Absolutely mad.

As it's likely to be just as busy for the coming days and weeks I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all of the May Med cruisers a very Happy Christmas and New Year. I hope everyone has a really good festive season!

Dang! Auburn University moved their graduation date out 3 days...to May 14th...which means there's no way for us to make the May 15th departure from Barcelona. :headache:

Oh, that sucks! :sad1: I guess it's better to find out now than closer to the cruise, but damn, that has to hurt!

What a bummer. Auburn's our close friends' alma mater. Are you a professor or are your kids going to school there?

Both our kids go there. My son is scheduled to graduate in May (Mechanical Engineering). My daughter is a sophomore in the pre-vet program.

Congrats! :thumbsup2

Are you going to be able to re-schedule for another departure?

No similar discounts on later departures as of yet. We're also considering skipping his graduation and just having them mail his diploma to him. We've got time before we to do anything so we'll just keep watching things for a while.

My cousin and I currently have this cruise on "hold", pretty sure we will be making our deposits tomorrow, and joining everyone in May!!

Welcome LeeLee --nice to see our Dis Cruiser list grow!!
My Husband and I are anxious for May to arrive----this Cruise sounds fabulous !!!!
Just noticed that you are from Freehold--we used to live in Ocean Grove !!

Well its offical, we placed our deposits today! My cousin, her friend and I will be joining everyone in May! I can not wait, and couldnt pass up this great offer!

We transferred out BTB Wonder reservations to this sailing on Christmas Eve. We booked a cat. 12 guarantee with late dining. It will be my DH & myself celebrating the beginning of 35 years together. I keep pinching myself to make sure this is real. Lots to learn and I can't wait to read the whole thread but I need to get back to packing cause we're sailing down the Mississippi on New Years Eve for a 4 night cruise with a few extra days in New Orleans. This will be our 4th Disney cruise and 10th overall - 2 RCCL, 1 Princess, 1 Celebrity, 1 Carnival.

Welcome to all of the new people who have decided to join us! We spent a week on the Magic a couple of weeks ago and it was wonderful! Can't wait to visit her on this sailing! I have been busy with work and school and finally have a bit of down time to work on some planning. I too am watching airfare hoping for a drop. I have even been checking other cities trying to find something cheaper. Nothing yet but hopefully January will be a good month! I have checked out some of the Disney tours, but they seem very pricey. I am intrigued by the on your own tours, but my husband is scared to do anything other than Disney. Being in a strange country not speaking the language is freaking him out! Any hints or tips? Your flight tips have brought him much peace, so I am trying to set up all of the tours and such ahead of time to help ease his uncertainty. I keep telling him everything will be fine and your hints and tips are greatly appreciated!

What shore excursions is everyone planning on doing? I have been trying to research on this board and the other popular cruise board and havent gotten really far. Is there any way to see what excursions Disney offers yet? Although, we would rather do stuff on our own to save money.

It seems Barcelona hotels don't believe in quads. :confused3 I've booked a Marriott. It is out by the airport, but has free shuttles from the airport and a low cost shuttle to the port. They have 2 bedrooms suites available with breakfast and snacks.

ABDMom
Hey, ABDMom, that Marriott sounds really good! What's the specific name of the Marriott? I'd like to look into that.

Thanks!

Hi Sayhello
We have been looking at that Marriott also--it's called The Renaissance Barcelona Airport Hotel. We will start planning a little more once the Holidays are over-----that planning will liven up the start of the New Year !!!!!

Happy New Year !!!!

Thanks, Florida Princess! I keep telling myself I'm going to wait until after the Holidays, but I slip from time to time! :confused3

I figure we (traveling with my Husband and my Aunt and Uncle) better get started with our Hotels and Air the first week of January !!! Hopefully there will be a nice air sale in the next few weeks !!!! :surfweb:
I love the planning part of our vacations !!!!!

Thanks abdmom & Florida Princess! I took a look at that Marriott, and it really looks ideal. Great location for arriving in the early hours after a sleepless overnight flight, and the free airport shuttle & the arranged shuttle to the port (not to mention the shuttle to the City Center) just makes it seem like my kind of place. Maybe as the time gets closer, we could talk about coordinating our shuttles to the port.

Whee!

Sure sounds like I'm really taking this cruise now, doesn't it? :)

Sayhello

Happy New Year everyone! Glad to hear people are starting to plan. I've been holding off until the holidays are over but after tomorrow, there's no excuse! We'll need a hotel that sleeps 4, as our friends have 2 little ones, and we have one. I've heard that not too many hotels in Barcelona sleep 4!
