Just read on the 5/5 thread that at least on person has gotten a call about a paid upgrade from a 6 to a 4. Here's hoping they will get to us soon!

....Me and my hubby have arranged drivers with rome in limo for La Spezia, Naples, and Civitavecchia. We are going to have a guide for Pompeii and the Vatican. In reviewing your notes and photos from 2007, I saw that your clan also had a guide in Florence. We are definitely going to Florence from La Spezia, but I had not planned a guide for certain. Thoughts?

Also...and this is a big one.....would you do Pisa? My husband thinks we need the obligatory photo, but I think we would enjoy either more time in Florence to soak up the city versus just whizzing through museums, or Jany at Rome in Limo suggested maybe Lucca. Thoughts?

Theresa,

Based on recommendations from cruisecritic.com we'd contacted Paola Migliorini (florencetour.com) about a tour of Florence/Pisa. One of the main reasons we wanted Paola was she's an art historian. We wanted more than to just look at some of the greatest art on the planet...we wanted someone that could help us really appreciate what we were seeing. Unfortunately, she was already booked but her good friend Virginia, also an art historian, was available. We didn't pay any more for the tour than we would have otherwise. Virginia was fabulous! Her insight into the nuances and details of the David were captivating. This continued throughout the tour through Florence. Without the guide, we just wouldn't have appreciated what we were seeing nearly as much so yes, I think it was well worth it...every bit as much as it was for the Vatican.

As for Pisa, perhaps there's more there than the tower but that's all we saw and we're not doing it again. I can understand your DH desire to go there so you can say you've seen it and take the picture but I'd not plan to spend more than 15 minutes there and use the extra time in Florence. I have not been to Lucca but I hear it's nice too.

When we all get our room assignments I will be interested in one thing though. I have never gotten an upgrade to a Cat 9 room in the 3 previous times that I have been on DCL and I have never heard of a solo cruiser getting one so I will be interested to see if any of our solo cruisers here or in any of the other trips get one. Just trying to figure out DCL alittle bit more.

Yeah, I think that's just the nature of the business. If DCL gives a solo cruiser an upgrade, they make one person happy. If they give a party of 2, 3 or 4 an upgrade, they make more people happy.

Thats true, but technically you are making 1.6 people happy (we pay 60% single supplement). Unfortunately this also seems to happen with the shipboard activities as well as whenever I have gone to any activity as a solo I am never chosen because I am usually alone and typically they pick from a large family or at least a couple. I've thought about talking with the cruise director about this as I don't think they quite know what to do with solo cruisers since we are not that common. So far I havent brought it up to them because I have gone on shorter cruises but I will see how this longer cruise goes.

Hey, let me know if you'd like me to go along when you talk to the cruise director! Being single isn't a condition. It's just who we are! :rolleyes1

Count me into that conversation too!

Somehow I think if the 3 of us went to talk to him (or her) I think we would magically have some pixie dust appear the next night. The cruise staff would be warned to watch out for those solo women!:lmao:

Hey, I have no idea what "Who wants to be a Mouseketeer" is, but I'm willing to learn! :rotfl:

What shipboard activities are you talking about? Just curious as I don't recall seeing or doing things on our cruises where they call on guests for something. Now the parks are a different story...I'm one of the idiots that jumps up and down and waves my arms when they ask for volunteers (like the Indy stunt show in Hollywood Studios). :yay::yay:

Hey, I bet I would out Disney geek you. We've got all the Disney trivia books, the Disney trivia game, all the movies...it's a sad thing really. :wizard: :rolleyes1:teacher:

Just wanted to share my FE's that I completed! I copied the no-sew directions from the disboards. It really was not very difficult. I made them Med friendly, one for each of our rooms! Look for them onboard! :woohoo::fish::mickeybar

Yes but have you dated a guy, who's father was VP of entertainment at Animal Kingdom? :cool1: Beat that!!

They have a bunch of trivia/game shows in Studio Sea, at least one every night, and usually those who are picked get to go up and answer questions and win a small prize. (I'm all about the prizes!)

Nice work ICollectBelle (MOM!!!)... I know you worked very hard on these and I'm excited to see them =) The cruise will be here before you know it. :yay: Any ideas for good gifts for the fish extenders??? I will have to contribute something myself....

LOL thanks Jill, I got that song stuck in my head now that I am going to bed. Linking ressie would be fun, since I would at least know a few people, although part of me loves to see who they match the single people with since I have always been the only solo on the boat.

ETA: I am the 1000th post on this thread. YAY!!!
