May Med Magic - May 15 2010 - Meet thread - Part 2

I say we will end of at 47 pages.

In 5 days our family (along with Travelbee) will be flying to London. It will be my family's first time there and we are just so excited. Any recommendations from the locals on must sees or dos? Any good places for the kids? Will only be there 2 days but looking forward to the visit.

Oh 1 more thing. I really enjoy Indian food and heard London has some of the best Indian restaurants. Any recommendations?

Thanks much :goodvibes

One with terrible 1970's flock wallpaper and cheesy bollywood music playing.

The worse the curryhouse looks, the better (more authentic) the curry usually is. :rotfl:

:lmao:WOW! 6 pages over night, I might have to change my guess. :lmao:

I have a question for all my UK friends...What are jelly babies? I just saw them posted on another thread and was curious. Are they like Gummi Bears?

They're kind of like Gummi Bears but slightly bigger.

They are gummy on the inside with a slightly harder outside and are shaped a little like babies. They also have a powdery sugar coating.

If you'd like to try some i can bring a bag along next week.

I've never tried them (i'm lucky as i rarely get seasick) but saw loads of people with them on our last cruise, so some people find them helpful.

Euro exchange is 1.272 here right now, looking to buy either Monday or Tuesday do you suppose Greece can maintain their financial problems till then for me ?

Absolutely. The people aren't going to give up their 14 months pay for 12 months worth of work/year. How Draconian that the government even ask?

And after Greece is Ireland, Portugal and Spain (US isn't far behind - truth be told). :offtopic: :)

I haven't but I've talked to a number of people that have used them. About half like them but the other half say they make them feel like a zombie...drowsy, kind of in a daze. We use Bonine and we're also going to bring ginger pills.

What is the consensus on whether to take original passports or copies into the ports? I did hear on the DIS podcast for Tunisia that you had to have the original with you. Also, for anyone who knows do they require proof of identification when using credit cards- therefore bring along DL, state ID, etc.?

Thread page guess - 75

Hi Helen, I am not a local but I do love London! My suggestion that I would not miss out on is the Tower bridge/London Tower. The tours are incredible! All the guides are dressed in period clothing (beefeater gaurds) and tell the most fascinating tales and participate in reinactments. My wife likes the part with the Crown Jewels on display :thumbsup2 (wonder why LOL)

One more thing your children might enjoy in the London Eye. It gives you a panoramic view of the city. It is also close to Big Ben and Parliment (suddenly getting Chevy Chase flashbacks :rotfl2:). I envy you guys! London is one of my favorite cities!!!

As far as Indian food we ate at the BALI house near Victoria station and it was pretty decent but nothing to write home about.

Neither of us get sea sick but we talked with several people who swear by the patches. The ginger pills are excellent anti-emetics but if you can find candied ginger in a local whole foods store they taste great and are quickly and easily digested (for those sudden onsets of sickness). :thumbsup2

A girl I work with just came back from a cruise and she used the patch. She swore by it. We're bringing Bonine and Dramamine just in case. I also read that eating a green apple is good and smelling orange rinds. :confused3

Thankyou loads for your help!!! Oh and am lol at my tales!!!!! In my defence it was nearly 1am hehe ,am glad i havent got to take the towels it saves room for the d/d dress up !!!
And thanks for the seeds advise i did suspect that my hubby said they would have me stripped searched and arrested before i set foot on the boat lol!!!!!! (idea was to give out packets of sun flower seeds in everyones FE) Know now that isnt possible so just have to make do with my "other" gifts xxx

Hi there i went to my doc today and asked about the patches ( i WILL be the lady being constantly sick:sick: and green:sick: throughtout the cruise:eek: lol) He said they work well for a single trip but not for prolonged times!!!!! so he gave me PROMETHAZINE TEOCLATE :confused3tablets to take 3 times a day!!!!!!!!! Also said the jabs on board would be a good idea!! Any one know how much they are???
Unfortunatley he couldnt give me anything for my children (d/d 4 has just started to become quite travel sick) not sure how d/s 2 will be lets hope they havent inhertited my week system! Hubby should be ok ! ;)

Welcome back cruisers

Here's the part 2 thread ready for carryng on where we left off.

Old thread can be found here

So not long to go. Who wants to place a bet on how many pages we fill over the next few days before we cruise? In fact I'll throw in a little treat for whomever guesses closest (to the page number as of when i wake up on Sat 15 May). :hippie:

The next two posts - i'll drop in roll call and FE lists as i won't be able to go back and edit these on the original thread once it is closed (i don't think so anyway).

I was going to bet 98 pages, but some of you folks are leaving early...so I'm guessing 78! But you guys that are traveling to Barcelona early just have to post to let the rest of us know how the city it, how the fountain was and what the temp is. It all so exciting!:yay:
