May I vent for a moment?

We got married in WDW, spent a week on property, and then went to hawaii for two weeks. We had a bunch of naysayers prior to our wedding (including my wife's parent's), but once they experienced our wedding at WDW they were humming a completely different tune. Have a great wedding and honeymoon. Forget what they all think. You're the one's who have to be happy with your decisions.

Jealousy.. and ignorance.. be thankful.. they won't be in your line Q!

:)IMHO, Disney is a place where you either "get it" or you don't! Thankfully, most of my family "gets it". It is your honeymoon and you can spend it how and where you want. If anyone gives you grief just do as Dear Abby says to do -- just say, "why do you care". Stops them in their tracks every time.

Have a wonderful time and, yes, we want to hear all about it!pixiedust:

The good news is...after awhile, they get used to it :lmao:

The first couple years, my co-workers were dumb founded, now they expect it and like to hear about it.

We go to Disney at least 10 days two times per year (no honeymoon, birthday, celebration, etc...just go) so you can imagine there are others that have felt your pain.

I personally don't care at all! I too have NO vices, I don't even drink coffee!! Disney is my vice and I can GUARANTEE it is MUCH less expensive and MUCH more beneficial than people with other vices/addictions.

The way I see it, my kids get the best childhood imagineable, I get the happiness I LIVE for and it still costs less than someone who smokes or drinks...it's a win...win...win...:thumbsup2

First of all, Congratulations!

I also think it's wonderful - not only going to Disney for your Honeymoon and for two weeks - but also that you are actually going to go on a Honeymoon. I hear of so many people right now who say 'they'll go later' and never do.

I agree with the others who say - ignore it - AND HAVE A GOOD TIME!

Also - we'll listen - talk to us.

Again - Congratulations!

They don't 'get it' but you do and that is all that matters; just laugh to yourself & think of all fun they're missing :goodvibes !!!

CONGRATS & BEST WISHES TO THE HAPPY COUPLE :)

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. My husband & I will be married 30 years in Nov and we have 2 DS, 22 & 26. Of course our boys laugh at us when we ask them to go but at the last minute one them always shows up....My co workers don't ask anymore were we are going on vacation. We go the first week of July and Columbus weekend, sometimes we try to sneak in another week somewhere in the year. I can't tell you how many folks say, "why are you going there"? You have no kids....we just smile and say we love it and have a Disney Day.....Everyone has the right to the pursuit of their own happiness...if Disney does it for us...so be it....Enjoy!!

First I would like to say Congratulations to both of you. My DH and I were married 4 1/2 years ago and we also did a 2 week vacation. I found most people were just jealous that we were able to do it. Do not worry about what others say. Enjoy your planning. Life is too short.

Have a GREAT time and nothing but best wishes to both of you

Just say "You wouldn't want to go on a two week HONEYMOON?! I'm glad I'm not marrying you!" We spent part of our honeymoon in WDW and it was great!

CONGRATS!
And I'm jealous... we did DFTW and stayed there a total of 12 days I think. That's the longest I've been on a vacation there. I told DH that I would LOVE to do a 2 week vacation someday but we are always short on vacation days... :lmao:
Especially with a new baby and all... there's just not enough vacation days hehe...

Enjoy your HM... and don't let those people bother you. You're not asking them to fund your honeymoon so who cares.

And do tell about your plans... I live vicariously through people on disboards now that I'm a SAHM

ps: Ooh ooh, don't forget to wear your wedding ears and just married buttons when you're there. It's a lot of fun to hear "CONGRATULATIONS!!!" from strangers and CMs... :thumbsup2

OMG, A two week honeymoon..... :rotfl:

Who cares what other people think. I only wished my employer would let me take 2 weeks in a row. I always said that if I remarried it would be at Disney, I love it, hence the reason I purchased DVC!

Congratulations! Have a fantastic time and fill us in when you get back!

Congrats! We went to WDW on our honeymoon in 2001 and had the very best time! In fact, it turned DH into a Disney crazed person just like me!

Everyone who knows me knows about the "Disney thing." And when people ask me about it, I'm such a salesperson, that they actually sort of get it.

And for those giving you a hard time, they're just jealous!

Have a fabulous time and know that there's always a board of Disney lovers just like you right here on the Dis! We TOTALLY get it! :thumbsup2

I agree that I think a lot of what you are hearing is jealousy pure and simple. However there are people out there that don't understand Disney or don't love it the way we do. Different people in this world is what makes the world an interesting place. Some people go to the same beach every summer- I go to Disney. We all win by going on the vacation we enjoy! Everyone should have a wonderful Honeymoon no matter where they choose to go!

Although, our honeymoon wasn't 2 weeks long it was at WDW. That was back when we would go once a year. Now we are going up to 5 times a year so 2 weeks is more than normal. We spent 24 days there last year (341 too few). 25 days if you count 1 day at HHI. This year as of now it is scheduled to be 24 again. Like yourself we don't live an hour away either.

Our honeymoon was my first trip to Disney. We were there for 10 days, and even with a hurricane closing the place for the first time (Floyd), I didn't want to leave. Been back 4 times since, and trip number 6 is in October, and I can't wait. DW definitely converted me to a WDW lover....and now it drives her crazy because I talk about it so much...lol. We did V&A, and it was good. Service was unreal. Definitely get the Just Married Ears....We were treated very well by everyone, had our own cars on a couple of rides, got free desert at epcot....It was great.

Congrats!! And try to ignore the negatives - I think I've just had to come to realize many people just "don't get it" - I am planning a 16 day Disney Wedding extravaganza this year with a 4 day DCL cruise in the middle of it.....and believe me I have gotten my share of snarky comments....however I am like many others who have posted - I don't drink, and don't smoke (although I DO drink coffee)..and I'm a saver. Every penny I can afford goes to trips, and I am OK with that....

Hope your honeyoon trip is absolutely magical - you came to the right place to vent on this topic....ignore the naysayers and we'll back you up :)

Congrats! We went to WDW on our honeymoon in 2001 and had the very best time! In fact, it turned DH into a Disney crazed person just like me!

Were we separated at birth? :rotfl: DH and I also went to WDW on our honeymoon in 2001, and DH got hooked enough that he bought into DVC for me as a late wedding present. We've been back on every anniversary since!! :goodvibes

You Enjoy !!! your Honeymoon. When I was a kid we NEVER went to Disney, now we go 3 times a year. My kids get to go twice and my husband and I go by ourselves once a year. We will be married 24yrs. and are looking to the future of taking our grandchildren. Also dont be afraid to venture out to out places...everything we have done thru DVC is absolutly BEAUTIFUL and the best of the best.

My wife and I took a two week honeymoon in 2008! Started with one night at AKL, then a 3 night cruise on the Disney Wonder, followed by 10 nights at the Wilderness Lodge! It was AWESOME! I successfully brainwashed....errr....won over my new wife to become a huge Disney fanatic! We then took a Western Cruise on the Magic in October and purchased our first DVC contract. Hoping to close on our 2nd DVC contract this week!

Most of my family has the same Disney problem I have, so they don't get weird about it...except for my dad. He just doesn't get the obsession.

Unfortunately, her family has never done a real Disney vacation...only 1 or 2 night trips to off property resorts. They don't get it and often make comments about how "expensive" it must be and how we "must be made of money" -- blah blah blah. We certainly ARE NOT (!!!!) made of $$ -- not that it is their business.

As for my co-workers, they all come to me to help them plan their own WDW and DCL vacations -- they love having a Disney expert around.

Cheers,
Josh

I agree with others that some people "get" WDW and others don't. Jeolousy could be a part as well. Adults in the work place have to keep up their "adult" image so put down any thing kid like. Is WDW for kids...You Bet!!! Ages 1-110!!! That is why we go. Have fun I know I am jealous.
