First of all, I feel like I know most of you pretty well as I've been primarily a lurker for a hundred years or so. I've felt your pain when reading your sad stories and cried tears of joy with many of you (congrats, soulmates) and most of all you make me laugh...thank you for all of that. So I hope you don't mind if I stumble through our tale.

By way of reference...OrlandoMike, we're the old broads who "rented" the nine year old last year for the trip to the World. (He couldn't keep up with us, btw.) I digress, as usual.

Most of you are younger than my partner and I are and we've spent a pretty discreet and boring (although happy) life together. We realized recently, though, that next Spring marks 20 years together for us. I'm not quite sure what happened, but we decided that the event was cause for celebration. It began as a small party of twenty or so and then suddenly, as our family and friends actually heard us talk about it (out loud which was highly unusual for us), it became a giant snowball and is now gathering speed and rolling through the glaciered areas of Wisconsin somewhere in the vicinity of 100 people or more involving a church, a catered reception and as of today we are the proud owners of a d.j. service for 4 hours or so having signed the contract. How did this happen and can anyone suggest how to make it stop???? We're very excited but it is a little bit like living through the 60's again...without the drugs and George Carlin!

I felt you folks might understand this mixture of emotions and my desire to a: share our joy and b: ask you to lend words of wisdom.
Try to be kind, boys....(hey, I've read you in action!)

Thanks and love to you all. Appreciate the chance to share.

How exciting! Congratulations to you both! Thank you for sharing your good news with us. Please keep us posted as you are planning - many of us love to follow along and celebrate with you. And don't forget to post picures of the celebration when it happens!

OMG! That is just so wonderful! Congratulations! And thank you for coming out of lurkdom to share!:hug::hug:

Having just been through a wedding for DD and since the dear hubby and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary....I can commiserate with you 100%!!!

Have fun! Enjoy the whole ride and when you get there...REVEL in it!

Congratulations!

That's just awesome!

Words of wisdom? When the day arrives, try to be "in the moment" at all times. Soak it up, enjoy it, commit it to memory. It goes by so fast, but it's such a wonderful feeling!:thumbsup2

And then come back and tell us all about it!:yay:

I so needed to read some good news tonight! Congrats and thank you for sharing your joy!!

First of all...Congratulations! :cool1:

As for words of advice....Write down every emotion and thought you have about this, and take a ton of pics! It is so nice to go back in a week, a month, or even a year after the event to read about what you were thinking and doing to plan such a great event!

And as long as you are celebrating, swing by Culver's and grab me a Butter Burger! :cool1:

(Hey, I figured if I got the words butter and burger in one sentence Wally or Rosie would hijack your thread at least!) :confused3

Aww! :goodvibes Congrats, Peep!! Twenty years!! That's definitely something to celebrate and celebrate BIG!!

I'm sure you'll get lots of words out of this bunch, but I'm doubting much "wisdom." :rolleyes1

Thank you for coming out of lurkdom to share your story. It's so inspiring to hear stories like yours. I can't wait to hear all about it! In fact, how 'bout some details??
:yay:

My advice.

1. A good concealer. ;)

2. A few hits of acid in the punch! :upsidedow

3. Roll with it! :goodvibes

Have a freaking Blast! :flower3:

Sounds like a blast!

If I may suggest, you might want to plan a few nights away for just the 2 of you afterwards though :rotfl:

And it only took you 20 years?!!! ;) I'm OVER THE MOON for you both!! Isn't it fun planning? I am sure, your special day will be filled with much love and amazing memories. You've gotten some great advice and I will 2nd that by saying, TRY and stay in the moment, cherish every second of it....this is what dreams are made of!

Hugs,

Chris

What a fantastic story! So happy for the both of you. Funny how things change and do it quickly, huh? Keep us updated on all of the details and pictures. :goodvibes

Congratulations, sounds like it will be a great celebration!!!

orlando Mike, I must ask, just what is a butter burger? :)

edit:
I just googled butter burger, LOL it wasn't what I was thinking.
I had visions of butter inside the burger!

Oh, shoot, now I have to think up an excuse for my eye leaks here at work! You guys really are the best! Thank you.

Yes, I will try to hear all of you and write things down (I am the family planner, you know....haven't you all bellowed that famous Disney line to your loved ones "Honey, what do you want to eat in 180 days?")

And I promise to live in the moment. You can be sure we do that everyday. Mary has systemic lupus and if you know anything about that insidious disease you know that it can do nothing or kill you with little in between. So we bless each moment we have together. She is someone special. And she won't approve of me sharing this but it's so true...I have never, ever, ever heard her complain once, not once about her illness. About me....well, that's a different story:)

ConcKahuna! That's what I love about you...You have your priorities straight. Before this whole celebration thing ever started we had our reservations set for 8 days at the World! So the party is on the 10th of April and on the 16th we'll be winging our way to the Mouse for respite.

Mike!!!!!!!! You know what a ButterBurger is!!! I'm sitting here in my office a mere 30 miles from Lee Culver's home and the birthplace of the butterburger in Sauk City, WI.

Sorry to write a novelette here.. but have to tell you I'm going to be 60 on Sept. 19th and Mary gifted me with 3 days with Mickey! Wahoo! I'm going to ride those coasters till I puke!

wallyb, now let me get this right. The acid goes in the concealer or the concealer is in the punch or......hmmm.

Thank you so very much for all your kind words. They mean more than you could ever know! And, yes, I did detect some wisdom...........

Yes, I've been to Badgerland! :thumbsup2

Just curious Wally, are you using Alice B. Toklas' recipe, or Timothy Leary's? :confused3

We are gonna need pics and food porn too! :thumbsup2

The Punch recipe is from Art school.
Art students know how to party! :thumbsup2

In the punch would be best - but after it kicks in -
you won't much care.:flower3:

Ohh Trippy!

Burger??? What am I supposed to do with that??
