May Hours

We have gone the past 3 May's. All 3 years, the last Grad Night was Friday night and we arrived the next day on Saturday (didn't plan it that way, just happened). All 3 years, Spectromagic was held that Saturday night, usually two runnings with fireworks in between. They were also very crowded on those Saturday nights. They also had it the following Saturday night. I don't understand why they aren't having it this year. We've seen it in early December, which is supposed to be one of the slowest times of the year. I think it's another cost cutting move, there are alot of performers in that parade and by not having it all month, they could just let them go for an extended period.

Yes it is a cost cutting move, brought on by low year round attendance since 9-11 and the economy. Attendance is down at Disney parks, its "economics".

I may not like it, but at least I understand it.

Darn! Can anyone clue me in as to how to add images in your signature and also how to chnage the font color under my username where it says Just call me Shan...
Sorry, this is way off topic!

I would say that we all have to sit tight and see how the schedule plays out - if Disney gets the numbers and sees the offsite properties booking up we will get Fireworks and Spectro as it will draw people into the parks. If there are not enough people staying to draw then we will not get the extra shows.

I booked at the CR thinking of Spectro so I would have an easy exit and stroll back to the CR.

However my trip does not pivot around these events and DS and I will enjoy this trip to the fullest extent possible.

We may adjust from CR back to one of the moderates and advise Disney in writing why so at least they know there is impact to the guests who do plan to stay but as said I am still going to go 100% out to enjoy this trip which I am lucky and priviledged and work hard to afford

Thanks
Jason

We will be at WDW end of April beginnging of May. We go this time each year. There is usually MK fireworks, SpectroMagic/Electrical Light Parade offered a few nites during our stay.

This year according to WDW website, (park hours listing) the MK closes early so no fireworks, spectromagic.

I did e-mail WDW or my families disappointment. Perhaps if they get enough e-mails they will offer MK fireworks and Spectro 1 nithe a week in May!

Catheren-we'll be ther same time you are. First time we have gone in late April/early May-usually mid to end of May. Let's keep those emails going. I'd like to see Spectro and FIS at least once during our stay.

Got a call about hours from WDW today. A few weeks back I emailed asking why May hours weren't posted and
that I was concerned. They called today. Of course, the hours were put up
yesterday or the day before? Already can't remember! Man, my mind is
going... Anyway, she told me I shouldn't be concerned anymore cause she now
had the hours and they were all open late?!? Not from what I can tell... I
expressed my disappointment that Spectro wasn't at least running on
Saturday. She told me I can always see Fantasmic or Fantasy in the Sky,
along with IllumiNations. Not really what I cared to hear, but I told her to
please note I was disappointed about it. She was very nice, but it didn't
help much. LOL

Wow,

THey must go to bed early if CRO considers 6:00pm to be open late.

It may be.

The 6:00 pm for future world at epcot, stuck in my head.

I went 2 years ago same 2 weeks and I could swear they were open till 10 pm, both magic kingdom and Epcot future world.

Oh well,

As I see it, more time to swim and have fun in the resort. If the parks were open later, I probably wouldn't spend as much time in the resort.

Glad to see "someone" understands "economics" instead of thinking Disney is just some mean spirited company that delites in making people unhappy.

I REALLY do not think people are upset to much about the hours its Spectromagic.i do feel there should be Spectromagic on a few nights in May.if that sounds like i am thinking Disney is MEAN SPIRITEd then so be it.

Luvindisneyworld, I am with you. Contrary to what Sammie thinks, none of us think that Disney is doing it to be mean. They are however using the current political landscape as an excuse. I have always gone during SLOW times of the year and there has always been Spectro. I feel sorry for those who are going to Disney for the first time and are not going to have the chance to see it. I don't care what the attendance is like. Disney should not slight the people that do go. They should give you your money's worth. This is the complaint that most have. I have heard some talk as though being able to go to Disney is a privilege. WE ARE PAYING TO GO. IT IS NOT A PRIVILEGE. THEY ARE NO LETTING US GO FOR FREE. Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest. BTW, the latest Disney fiasco, they are closing POFQ with no prior warning. I have one thing to say about Disney's customer service these days...LOUSY.

i have never experienced Spectromagic:mad:,we just started going to Disney last April and we have always had family with us that we have to try and satisfy.but we are going by ourselves this time and this is something i REALLy wanted to see.i have emailed Disney and expressed my disappointment.

I completely understand everyone's disappointment, I truely do. You have every reason to be disappointed.

I just don't think they arbitarily do this to make people unhappy. I truely feel it is not due to this being a slow season. I truely believe it is due to the economy and the war affecting travel to WDW and the entire Orlando area. I never said they were doing this because of May being a slow season.

Surely you believe they want to keep their customers happy and coming back. Only a very serious situation would cause them to do something that would disappoint their guests.

If you don't believe that, then I can't see why you would even want to go.

Sammie, I am going last week of May first week of June so they probably will have a full schedule by then. But if it was not for my 2 DDs, I probably would not be going. We had a trip planned for last year and they began making cutbacks and did away with Early Entry. I complained and they gave me the lame excuse that no one liked EE. I said fine and cancelled my reservations. We went to USF/IOA instead. It was cheaper and we loved it. However, DDs still wanted to go to Disney. They brought back EE this year so I made ressies. I am not going to disappoint them again. I truly do feel sorry for those that are going to miss out. Disney is a wonderful place, but I am afraid the people they have running it right now can't figure out that if attendance is down, you don't cut back the things that make people want to go. All that does is drive more people away. This is simple economics, offer less and less will come.

Rescue,

Agreed and hopefully crowds will pick up and they will make some changes to the schedule.

I do know that early in the month Grad Nights affect scheduling also.

I hope this SARS situation does not make it any worse.

I have to agree here. It is not the parks hours, it is Spectro I'm really disappointed about. We are paying money to be entertained and the entertainment isn't there. Instead of adding enticements, they are taking away. I woudl think they would try to get people to come, not have the people that were planning on coming, cancel. I can understand the shorter hours. ~IF~ it is as slow as they claim, we shoudl be able to do what we want in their hours. ~BUT~ that doesn't mean they should start cutting back on the entertainment. Will they start cloing rides next to save a few dollars? (I'm being sarcastic here, but I woudln't be surprised!)
