We're staying in Hawaii. I know another DISer "frankiemom" will be at the Poly too!

Oh that's right, your boys are doing the pirate cruise on the 14th. My son is on the 12th. We'll be over at AKL on the 14th. I didn't want to have to get back to the Grand Floridian from there.

We'll definitely have to hook up.

OK, I'm trying to be optomistic. I'm not really upset that MK is closing at 7:00. I figure that I can hit MK in the morning, and do MGM at night.

I am disappointed that there aren't fireworks every night (we have a LVC at Poly). And I'm REALLY disappointed there's no spectormagic.

I hope you are right welovedis. I just can't imagine them leaving it like this. Everywhere I read people are posting they are going in May so how low could attendence possibly be? They just have to change this. I am so upset I can't think straight today. When I think of all the planning we have done and then not to get to see any fireworks or spectro magic it really angers me.

Surely you do realize that a very small percentage of the total attendance at WDW posts on Internet forums. How many people have you seen post they are going in May, a hundred, a thousand, ??

That is nothing compared to the millions that usually visit WDW.

Foreign travel to Florida is down 30%. I certainly understand your disappointment, but the reason for cutbacks is not Disney's fault.

You can blame terrorism, the war, and the economy (as to that you can take your pick as to which President you want to blame).

May has traditionally always been a slower month. Slower months mean fewer people and shorter hours, etc. Certainly this year is an extreme situation, but we are living in a extreme time with the war and economy.

If crowds warrant longer hours and parades etc, Disney has been known to readjust.

I think part of the reason you are not seeing Spectromagic or Fireworks on the weekends in May is because of Grad Nights... which usually run the Friday/Saturday nights in early May. So, the hours for Fri & Sat will not get longer... but in the past, they have exteneded hours for a night or two during the week and added Spectromagic and Fireworks... but you will not see either of them (except if you are at one of the MK resorts and see the Grad Night fireworks...) on Fri or Sat Nights.

Sammie,

Fine if this is true and this has proven to be a trend, then why is it called regular season and not value season? I would expect shortened park hours, no fireworks and no spectromagic parade during value season, but I really did not expect such cuts during regular season. My family and I aren't cancelling our vacation plans do to the war, we are trying to help the economy by traveling during this very uncertain time. We are trying to keep the magic alive. We have saved for over 10 years for this trip, it saddens me that we will not have just 1 night of fireworks or spectro. It won't ruin our trip, but it does take some of the magic out of our adventure.

We might not be a crowd, but we are hard working honest paying customers who would love to see disney adjust there position on fireworks and spectro!!

As I said this is not the usual situation for May. I understand your pain, but Disney has no control over the world situation at this time. Also previously posted Grad Nights do have an effect on the hours and parades.

I am sure 10 years ago Disney had no idea they would be in the situation we are in now, no one did.

I know it does not help your disappointment but there are reasons for it. Disney would love to have capacity crowds right now, and the hours and events to go with that. It just is not happening.

Any chance you can rebook for the busier summer months when more should be offered?

wisconsonmousermom,i totally agree with your post,we work long and hard for our vacations.if may is considred slower times then they should readjust the season to value instead of regular.

i just voiced my concerns to Disney about this.i just feel the magic disappearing a little at a time.

Park attendance affects hours and things such as parades and fireworks.

Hotel occupancy rates are determined by hotel occupancy. Just as October used to be Value season, it was changed to Regular season due to occupany levels and bookings. When October was changed to Regular season the hours at the parks were not affected.

If bookings at the resorts continue to be very slow for May then May could become a value season month.

May is slower comparative to say June or July, but not comparative to September or November.

If you are going to quote me, please be sure you understand what I posted. I did "not" say that I felt cutbacks in parades and fireworks were due to May being a slower month. I said the war, 9-11 and the economy are affecting parades and fireworks. I "did" say that hours for May have always been less than other months. This has always been the case for May.

I am sorry this is true, but it is. If attendance at the parks increases there is a good chance so will the offerings.

Surely you don't believe that Disney would do this just to irritate the customers. If you truely believe they don't have sound economical reasons for doing this, then maybe you should vacation elsewhere.

We have gone the past 3 May's. All 3 years, the last Grad Night was Friday night and we arrived the next day on Saturday (didn't plan it that way, just happened). All 3 years, Spectromagic was held that Saturday night, usually two runnings with fireworks in between. They were also very crowded on those Saturday nights. They also had it the following Saturday night. I don't understand why they aren't having it this year. We've seen it in early December, which is supposed to be one of the slowest times of the year. I think it's another cost cutting move, there are alot of performers in that parade and by not having it all month, they could just let them go for an extended period.
