We are all booked for an April 2005 7 night cruise on the Disney Magic.(6 of us, 2 rooms)
Due to some financial problems, we may have to cancell this trip.

I see that it's not a problem to get our deposit back before 60 days........
My main concern is our plane tickets. We already purchased them through Delta/Song.

Does anyone know if there is any way possible to get your money back on plane tickets that say "non-refundable"??

From what it looks like to me, I can get a credit to use for up to 1 year, and I wouldn't even be able to sell them to anyone else.

Anyone have this delimma??

Thanks in advance.

My sister and mother had the same situation but with a different airline. They purchased non-refundable tickets and because of health issues, they had to cancel them. What the airline did was deduct $100.00 penalty and they have to re-book within a year. They each received a credit for the balance. If they don't re-book, they loose the balance.

That's all I really know about it. They were flying into Pittsburgh and my sister booked thru Orbitz. Hope this helps.

I hope this doesn't sound stupid...but try selling them on eBay.
I mean, if poepla are able to see snow and wind, why not airline tickets?

You can not sell or transfer them. If you can't use them within the year you'll be out the money. Sorry.

If they are non-refundable then they will take amount off for changing it. Delta was going to charge us $85 to move the date on some tickets I had a couple months ago. And they will not let you change the names on the tickets. I'm sorry you are going to have to cancel your cruise. Good luck with the plane tickets.

This is the better board to ask about airline policies.

Best of luck!

Unfortunately the reponse on the Transportation board probably is not any better.

The above posters are correct, on Delta you are charged a change fee and have up to one year to use the remaining credt. You need to cancel before the flight otherwise you are probably out of luck.

The tickets are not transferrable and I would NOT recommend selling them on EBAY. I would hope that no one would be stupid enough to bid on tickets they could not use, but who knows.

Last year we purchased tickets on Delta. A few months after we purchased the tickets my mom decided not to go. Delta canceled her reservation and she had one year to use the credit. The one year is from the purchase date not the travel date. The credit amounted to the purchase price of the ticket LESS $100.00. Needless to say, she never used the credit and lost all her money. This past year my sister had a similar situation. Twelve hours before their flight they had to cancel due to a very serious car accident her daughter was involved in. My sister called the airline and explained the situation. In fact, my neice was undergoing brain surgery at the time as a result of the accident. Anyway, it didn't matter to the airline. There was no consideration and they too had to forfeit $100.00 per ticket.

It may not be right the way they do it but that is why they are called non refundable tickets. If you want to get your total money back when you buy tickets they do sell fully refundable tickets which cost more.

We go through the 'drive' or 'fly' discussion with every trip. This issue is one reason I sometimes prefer driving. But then it is so nice to be able to just be there in a couple of hours.

I wish airlines were not like this, but it is a problem with booking airfare. Good Luck. I hope you can figure out something that works for you.

It's not the airlines, it's us. Almost all the airlines offer a fully refundable fare.

OP--Your best solution is to wait. If you're lucky Delta/Song will have enough of a schedule change that you'll be able to refuse the new flights and you'll get a full refund. Failing that take whatever credit toward a future flight you can get.

did you purchase traveler's insurance? if so, does it cover the reason why you have to cancel the trip? if so, you can get reimbursed through the insurance maybe....
