We fly out tomorrow night for a week at WDW.

Last night, our daughter has a bad sore throat and wakes up today with aches all over. Getting her in to the doctor as soon as we can today. Depending on how that goes, we may have to consider not going.

Our room-only reservations are paid off with credit and gift cards.
No tickets to deal with, we have APs.
Airfare with Frontier booked separately, I'll deal with that next.

Curious if anyone has had any experience with something like this, and how it worked out.
We do have a spring trip scheduled, so we could apply credits towards that trip if Disney doesn't want to refund.

We have had to cancel the day before due to a death in the family. Disney just let us move our package to dates to the future without incurring any financial penalties, other than the difference in pricing. But that was several years ago. We flew Southwest, so that was easy to cancel. It's one of the reasons I almost always fly Southwest now.

Based on terms and conditions, you can re-schedule your trip without penalty, but will have to pay prevailing prices for the change of dates. Technically speaking, you cannot use those funds toward an already booked future trip. You may, however, want to think about canceling the spring trip and then simply re-scheduling the trip you have scheduled for tomorrow to your spring dates. I hope that makes sense.

I just went through this in the spring. Had a trip booked for May, but had to make changes the day before our scheduled arrival. I called Disney and was able to reschedule for 2 weeks later without any penalty. We also fly SWA, so we didn't incur any change fees for re-booking our flights. Hope your daughter feels better.

I am so sorry to hear this! We went through the same with our daughter last year Spring Break. She was diagnosed with Influenza A just before our trip. I called Disney and asked for options. They told me they didn't want anyone sick coming into their resort or being miserable and not enjoying themselves and refunded our entire room only deposit. I had 5 day tickets I had purchased separately that were not refunded. We rescheduled for summer and stayed for a week and Disney upgraded those 5 day tickets to 7 days over the phone, but I did pay the difference in the ticket upgrade cost. We also flew SWA so I just rebooked those tickets as well with no penalty. My kids were initially so upset and disappointed, but within a few days we jumped into planning our summer trip and they forgot their sorrow and regained their excitement. In the end, we got a longer vacation and had an amazing trip so for us, it probably worked out for the best. Hope she feels better soon!

Thank you all for replying.
"Luckily" she only has strep throat, no flu/fever or anything worse.
She's already feeling better after some antibiotics.

A little scare, but we are still on our way tomorrow night!

Glad she is feeling better. Hoping for super quick recovery. I prescribe...two dole whips and one Mickey bar. That should do the trick. Have a great trip.

Sigh of "relief" !!! I'm happy you all are still going, I'm happier your daughter has an antibiotic!! I too found myself sick 2 days before I was flying to WDW 3 weeks ago. My first day there, I was absolutely exhausted but that most mainly lack of sleep due to a 6:00am depart. By day 2 and my 4th Antibiotic pill popped, I was so, so, much better. Hopefully your daughter will be feeling great soon!

So glad she's feeling better.

If not too late for you, you may want to head to your local pharmacy and buy her some "Earplanes" for the plane ride. Even though it's strep, the whole ears, nose and throat thing can happen and I would have her use the Earplanes to help prevent and alleviate any pressure than can easily occur to her ears while flying. Just a suggestion. Have a wonderful trip!!

I wish the airlines would allow free changes for documented illness. There are too many folks that can’t afford to pay the rescheduling penalty and get on the plane sick, which then spreads their germs to other people.

Unfortunately I think it would be too easy for people to fake those sorts of documents.

Airlines can refuse boarding to people who are visibly ill.

I'm so happy that it was a quick fix with antibiotics.

Will do, and Dad will have the Dole Whip with the rum.

:thumbsup2

Every plane ticket (or train ticket, for that matter) i've ever bought presented an option to add insurance to the purchased ticket at checkout at a price far less than the reschedule fee.

Great advice, thank you!

Delta allowed me to reschedule a flight once due to an emergency appendectomy the day before a scheduled flight, but they actually called my surgeon's office to verify.

The night before our last recent DW trip my teenage son got an itchy rash all over his body. I was in a panic...but a quick Dr appt alleviated my worries.

Count your blessings! It happened before you left not during your vacation :thumbsup2
I hope she gets plenty of rest before you "hit the parks running"

Have Fun:wave2:
