I interviewed for a new job and would not feel comfortable taking off right away to go on vacation, so if I am offered the position, I will most likely cancel the trip. The only problems? The airfare is paid for and must be used by May 2006 and the MNSSHP tix are paid for and are non-refundable and non-transferable. :(

I don't mind eating the cost of the MNSSHP tix, but I can't NOT use the airline tix. So................

When would be better to go crowd wise - December 24 - 29, 2005 or in April of 2006 (over Spring Break)? I don't think we will be renewing our AP's, so I was thinking of going with the dining plan as well. Which resorts out the following would you choose?

1. AKL - standard
2. PO-FQ
3. POR

Thanks for the input!

I would still take the trip. If they want you bad enough to hire you, I am sure it will not be a problem. Years ago I was hired in July, and told them that I would need a few days off in Oct for a planned vacation. I knew I would not get paid time off, and they were fine with it. Try to do that first, before you cancel your trip.

::yes:: I would definately talk to them about still taking your planned vacation.

Also, I believe that MNSSHP tix were available on ebay last year. ;)

I was just hired for a full-time position at a local college and I told the department head upfront (before I was hired) about my planned vacation in September. He told me that it was okay since it was already planned and I would only be missing 3 days of teaching (Thurs, Fri & Mon).

Another friend of mine has a prepaid trip to Europe this December and she just applied for a new position. She said she wasn't going to mention the trip until she was offered the job (which she will probably get.) This way, they can tell her to go ahead and take the vacation or tell her that she'll have to cancel.

The bottom line, go ahead and mention the trip and see what they say. It couldn't hurt....unless you already know what the answer would be.

I agree!!! When I was in a position of hiring employees, I would have never held it against someone if they already had a vacation planned. Most vacations are planned a year ahead of time and alot goes into it. This happened more often than you would think.

You don't have anything to lose my mentioning it to them. The worst they could say was no.

We have a trip planned for December. I've been interviewing for jobs and I have a second interview with a firm on Monday. I don't plan on mentioning the trip until after I am hired some where. I'm sure it won't be a problem to take the trip, I'm just not counting on getting paid vacation time for it.
