We did almost the same thing this past May. In January 2008 we booked a weeklong stay May 16-23 in a 2BR at Boardwalk Villas. We booked retail through
AAA. My co-worker went to
Disneyland in early April and came back seriously considering DVC and started selling me on it too. We did the math and realized that at the price we were paying for our retail vacation in a 2BR villa we would only need to make 2.8 additional trips in the same type of accomodations for our DVC costs to paid off. We bought through the developer to get the extra incentive points they were offering at the time and so that they could help us with the timing of the transaction. We signed papers in mid-April and that weekend booked the same week (which was at this point only one month out) at our new home resort of SSR. We had no problem getting the room at SSR on that type of notice especially with the help of the guides who were working on our purchase. We initially tried to get BWV since that was our original booking but we could not get it although they tried really hard. We had a great trip and were so glad that we did not spend all that money without having a DVC ownership to show for it.
