Hi,

We planned to go to DL next fall after CarsLand opens and do a coastal driving trip combined. We are now thinking we might split it into two trips since next fall is so far away.

So I narrowed it down to May. Read Hydroguy's tips, weather, high/low season, checked info. on grad nights.

What do I need to know about May? What is known for sure will be down for refurb May of 2012?

Are there any specials/discounts in May?

We always try to go in the fall so it's been years and years since we went in the spring/early summer and you didn't have to plan anything back then.

Any info. is appreciated. Things closed, things that will affect crowd levels, any large conventions or groups that I'm not aware of?

Thank you!

No "for sure" refurbs for May as of yet, but the rumor is that Matterhorn will be down for the first half of the year.

Thank you. Matterhorn won't be a big issue for us.

I wish I had kept the e-mails I receive from other sites on disney that list the upcoming rehabs, etc. I didn't think I needed them so soon.

I'm hoping they get matterhorn back up by June :(

I read on another site that it went down for rehab July of this year. If that's true and it's closed now, even if it's a long rehab, it should be okay by your visit.

Anyhow, anymore suggestions for May?

I'm worried the spring will be FILLED with rehabs because of Carsland opening. If I find anything out I'll come and let you know.

We really both of our May Disneyland trip. Good weather. Decent crowds (the year Toon Town opened, the park hit capacity one day during Labor Day weekend, and was closed by the fire marshall - only time I've ever been there when that happened) generally. Look for grad times that bring lots of young adults to the park. We actually grad night when we were there this year. We had a suite at PPH with a WOC view and we got to see the late WOC that was going on for grads, as well as hear the rides and all. We really enjoyed it!

Thanks. We always pick for weather and crowds first.

It sounds like mother's day is not a problem with crowds?

I think you meant Memorial Day, not Labor Day (I get them mixed up too). Anyhow, we won't be there at that time.

I already got the dates for the grad nights so will try to work around them. Hydroguy's updates show they won't have as much impact on the regular guests as they did in previous years. (ie: we get MM - in the past they would cancel them after a grad night).

Nope, it wasn't down in July since we rode Matterhorn on our trip at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. I think it closed slightly after we left, but that should still be enough time for them to put the new sleds in.

We love May, just be okay with the early closing hours (maybe have some restaurants off-site picked out for after the park closes - we love Buca di Beppo!), and potentially it being kinda cold ... we are surprised every year that May is colder than October even though we lived in California for a long time!

Two trips is awesome ... we're currently trying to decide between a June weekend at the Land or a September one since our big trip will be in the World in Dec next year; had settled on June until DH's boss threw a wrench by going on vacation the week we had reserved, so now we have to decide again whether to shift it back a week or book Sept. We'd like to see Carsland but really just want to get a little more out of our APs and DVC points.

Thanks. We're okay with off season, that's usually when we try to go. We were there one spring years ago and it decided to start a cold snap. Cancelled Electrical Parade one night and barely did it the second night due to rain. Had to buy a warm sweatshirt. :)

We haven't been able to travel for over 4 years. So, we had a big road trip plus DL planned for next fall after Carsland is done, but now we just can't stand the idea of waiting a whole year. So we are trying to figure out if we can do two (very different) trips.

I posted another thread trying to figure out if it would be better to buy PAP's hoping for discounted room rates or hope for general public discounts or packages.
