MY family is going on the May 8th Western Cruise. We will be coming in on May 7th and have a few questions.

Due to buying a couple of our airline tickets with Frequent Flyer miles, we had to fly into Tampa, FL due to availability.

What is the best suggested way to get from Tampa Airport to the boat the day before. I thought of renting a car and driving there with a one way rental, but where would be the best place to drop the car off?

Where should we stay the night before we sail?

We are going back to Orlando for a few days after the cruise? Are there any rental car companies very close to port??? And what's the best way to get to them? Shuttle buses, cabs???

Any suggestions as to where we should stay in Orlando?

Thanks, we are so excited to go. It's a B-day present for both of my Daughters, one is in April and the other in May...they don't know yet, it's getting harder and harder to keep a secret...they will be 9 and 10 so I want this to be as perfect as possible.

Hi fireguy5620,

I don't have answers to your questions, I just wanted to say hi as my family is also sialing on May 8th Western... I don't know if you've seen it, but there is a thread going for this cruise (if you've posted, sorry, I'm terrible with remembering names!) and we are planning a DIS meet during the cruise!

Dear Fireguy:

As we are staying for 2 days in Disney prior to the cruise, I cant recommend where to stay.

I just wanted to let you know that I also have a DD who is 10 and DS who is 15. Hopefully they will meet sometime during the cruise.

Several years ago we arranged a trip to Disney but didn't tell the kids. We waited until the morning of the trip to tell them. We woke them up and told them they didn't have to go to school that day because we were going to Disney. At first, they didn't believe us. They finally believed us when they saw all the suitcases in our room.

Thanks for all of the information, it surely will help. I'll check out the forum for the meet and greet, that would be fun meeting other people.

My girls have been to DW twice and love it of course. They heard us talking to a couple that went on the cruise and have wanted to go ever since. They have hounded me for years to go on the cruise. I ordered the cruise video from Disney, we will give that to them on my oldest daughters B-day on April 11th...then we will be on the cruise on my youngest daughters B-day...I almost slip telling them every day.

Fireguy,
i sent u a PERSONAL MESSAGE......

fireguy5620,

Please check your PM's, I need some more info for the postcards for your DD's. Thanks!!!

I would rent a car in Tampa and drive on over to the port. It should take about 2 1/2 hours. Pretty easy drive. Near Tampa last summer there was a lot of road construction on I4 so I would expect delays (and road work never finishes).

Avis, budget, hertz all have rental places in Cocoa beach. Avis has a shuttle, budget has a shuttle i think, national you have to take a cab. Dave's site has all of the info you will need.

We will also be on that cruise. Look forward to seeing you at the Dis meet if you can make it. Info on that can be found on the cruise meets section but to date has not been finalized. Looks like we would do it on one of the sea days. - Mike
