May 6, 2006 - 7 nite Western - Anyone Crusing?

Answers are below.

I tried running search and got nowhere so I;m sorry but have this to ask:

1) Where and and how much are the laundry machines? Should I bring some small bills for this? We're spnding a few days at WDW and are thinking that doing luandry on hte first day on the boat is a good idea.
There are laundry facilities on deck 6 across from sr 6588 and deck 7 directly above. Laundry is $1 wash and 50 cent dry ( i believe) think I did 3 loads last time and spent $6 +/- Dryers take a looong time to dry
2) Waterproof ID holder. We have some for the ID, but it's not big enough for the passsport. Do we need to bring our passports with us when we go to the islands like Cozumel? If so, I'll get one large enough for passports.
You do not need to carry passports in Cozumenl. Only picture id and key to the world card
3) Tipping. I read in my Disney package the recommended tipping fees. It starts out at $25.75 per person for the head Server and htn it lists various other amounts for other servers and hosts. I guess we can do this on our last night of the cruise (put in on our credit card) or tip as you go. I'm guessing it's going to be about $300 for us (3 guests x $100). I don't think I want to carry $300 in small bills just for this. What are you guys doing?
You can add tips to your stateroom bill up until the last night on board. You will need dollar bills if you order room service. Bar bill tips are added to your staterm acct. We always add tips to our stateroom acct that way they can be adjusted up or down depending on service. (DCL has always garnered UP on the tip scale)
If you haven't guessed, I like to travel light. Hence the questions.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if I should print out the pages or am I safe in just having the numbers written down?

Gina,
I am just bringing the numbers along. I don't want to carry pages and pages of stuff. I figure if we have our ressie number, we should be ok. :)

Lisa

Gina, Thanks for the suggestion to send things out for ironing the first night :thumbsup2 Whatever DH does not have ready by next weekend I will have him pack as-is and send out. Great idea. I printed out the confirmation pages for our excursions, just becuase I am anal that way, but I am sure you would be fine with writing down the numbers.

Lisa , That would mean laundry would be near 7588 on deck 7??? Crap- we are in 7590 I hope it's not going to be noisy I am a very light sleeper. And thanks for the Key West webcam idea - that got me really excited ! ;)

Chris, I have left over chocolate bunnies I would be happy to pack for you :teeth:

Sharon,
I looked it up and the laundry on deck 7 is across from rooms 7590, 7592, 7594 and 7596.
Now, I do not know why it shows the laundry in front of so many staterooms, I have never seen deck 7 so not sure if it is just bigger than the one on deck 6. But, yes, it does in fact, look like it is directly across from your room. On the plus side: we stayed in 6588 one time and it wasn't too bad when it came to doing laundry, you were right there and could go back and sit on your veranda til it was done. :) Oh, and noise is only bothersome when everyone using the laundry room was leaning up against our door. A few times of yanking it open and having them fall into our room-cured that! :teeth:

Lisa

Sharon,

Are you ready to build a ark yet? I know I'm sick of the rain. Seems like we're getting a months worth in a few days. I don't think we are going to see that big yellow thing in the sky until Wednesday or Thursday. :sad2: I was shopping in your neck of the woods yesterday, took DD's to Kohls for some more clothes. Nothing for me, again...ran out of time. Had to make to DD's coaches house to get her softball uniform.

I just printed out the pages with all the confirmation #'s on it, unfortunately the first page was printed on photo paper. Gotta love my hubby! I guess I'll still write them down on my cards like usual and I'll keep these with the other stuff in case I need to whip them out.

I think we will both be easy to find. I'll probably be the one with tears flowing. My DD keeps finding me every time I get emotional thinking about the trip. I always get caught. Actually, that will start when we land in Orlando, I always get teary eyed when we are officially in Disney territory. :sad1:

My DW took the pledge!! Open Toed Shoes! :cool1:

As a member of the Faux Paux Sisterhood, Just a friendly reminder, it's that time of the year again: :sunny:

I pledge to follow The Rules when I wear sandals and other open-toe shoes:

Please raise your big toes and repeat after me:

I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not plunge out between the straps.

I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe. :hippie:

I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow. I will shave the hairs off my big toe. :lmao:

I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, or sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there. :rolleyes1

If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it. :firefight

I will not live in corn denial; rather I will lean on my good friend Dr.Scholl's if my feet need him. :worship:

I will resist the urge to buy Crocs at Payless for the low, low price of $14.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes. This is out of concern for my safety, and the safety of others. No one can walk properly when standing in a pool of sweat, and I would hate to take someone down with me as I fall and break my ankle.

I will take my toe ring off toward the end of the day if my toes swell and begin to look like Vienna sausages. :dumbo:

I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend/sister/coworker when she asks me if her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes look like they've been dragged behind her car on the way to work and no sandal in the world is going to make her feet look good. :earseek:

I will promise if I wear flip flops, that I will ensure they actually flip and flop, making the correct noise while walking and I will swear NOT to slide or drag my feet while wearing them. :listen:

I will promise to go to my local beauty school at least once per season and have a real pedicure (they are about $25 and worth EVERY penny). I say spend another $25.00 and get a even better one. pixiedust:

I will promise to throw away any white/off-white sandals that show signs of wear...nothing is tackier than dirty white sandals... pirate:

Now - any more questions about how many shoes to take??? Later!!
Chris

PS. You are NOT alone!! Bring on the bunnies!! :smickey:

Hello everyone:

If you guys think you are excited, well, I leave in 2.5 days! Yikes! We have not finished packing, but are getting there. Tell me if you think 4 suitcases is too many for a family of 5: 10 days WDW plus the cruise. One large, two medium, 1 small (just for shoes). We are probably going to have 5 carryons, one is full of cereal and granola bars for WDW, another is books etc for kids on flight, another is toiletries and meds and my flat-iron, and the last one is for swimsuits, extra tshirts etc in case our luggage goes missing or is delayed. I read it is better to pack your food in a carryon in case they have any questions. I know last time they opened our suitcase. We have 50 little bags of instant oatmeal, so I hope they do not think its drugs!

Do we have to sign all those contracts in our package or can we just do it online?

I feel so overwhelmed! I'm so worried I'm going to forget something important, like my tickets, or keys, or passports! Or the worst fear is that we will sleep in. We need to be at the airport by 4:30 a.m. I probably won't sleep at all!

Sigh...if we could just magically transport ourselves there with all that we needed. Its so great to be a kid, what a breeze vacations are!

I seriously think we've overpacked. I hate doing laundry, so I'm taking tons of stuff to avoid doing it if possible. (although it sounds like the laundry room is close to our rooms 7565/3.

Anyone have the good fortune in being upgraded yet? Any hope for the rest of us if we haven't yet?

Take care everyone.

Sandra, from Canada, eh!

Ahhh...Gina, you mentioned the magic word: KOHL's!!! The one thing I miss the most about living up here in the PacNW is there is NO Kohl's!!! Being from Denver, that was my second home as we had a Kohl's on every corner. (sigh) You know how hard it is to find clothes at stores like Penney's and Macy's when you are used to the brands at Kohl's? I always tell dh that if he could just get a Kohl's up here, I'd be much happier :goodvibes ...that, and a Sonic. Ahhh...simple tastes. ;)

Sandra: You are going for 17 days with FIVE people and you are only taking 4 suitcases??? That is amazing! Can you come help me pack?

Lisa

Getting so excited...KNowing 2 weeks from now, we will be leaving Key west..woohoo...I hope to get things cleaned and packed soon..I havent even shopped but I have most of next week off..

Whats everyone most looking forward to? :)

Hi!! I have been lurking on this thread for about 2 months, but have only posted a couple of times. I can't help myself any longer! :bounce: I am eating, sleeping and dreaming this Disney Cruise. For example, my husband, kids, and I play 20 questions everytime that we go out for dinner. Guess what all of the recent games involve? The cruise! I will ask, "I'm thinking of an activity we will do on the cruise." etc. My DH chuckles and starts guessing. It is getting a little out of control. Hubby is of course excited, but not all-consumed by this cruise. So I am so thankful that he humors me and plays along. I think only you DIS die-hards can appreciate my obsession so, I will start getting my excitement out here!

My friends can't believe that I have started packing two weeks early, but when you have to include things like shoe holders, clothes pins and duct tape - what do they expect? :confused3

I decided to pack by family member. I started with DS5 first since he is the easiest. I put together what I had and then finished his shopping on Friday. Now to DD7. DH will fend for himself and then will be me. Of course I am waiting for mine until the last minute so that I, like many of you, can buy the next size down in clothes. I don't know who I am fooling, but I dream... Chris, thank you for your sincere post a while back that made all of us feel better about ourselves. I should know that people will be looking at palm trees and Disney Dreams, not my extra winter weight! :goodvibes

Oh yes, before I forget, someone about a week ago, said that she was packing nice shorts and button down shirts for her DS and asked if that seemed ok. That is exactly what I have planned to do on the casual nights. I hope that is ok!

Well, I am sure that I have bored you all enough. But I will be back I am sure! My family and I are all first-time cruisers, so I know that I will have questions as we approach our adventure. Happy Sunday!

Lisa, come over west a bit and you'll find a Kohls in our beautiful PacNW. They just opened up the first one in Vancouver this month! 3 more opened up in the Portland area. Perhaps you'll just have to come for a visit!

Wow you guys! I take a break for the weekend - because the board seemed slow and no one was posting and look and what you all did. You posted almost 2 pages without me. Geez, I miss out on all the good stuff. We finally got some sunshine :sunny: and warmth these past 2 days (74 degrees!) and we all got a little sunburned! So I went out and bought some good sunscreen for the kiddos so I will be prepared for the cruise. I do not want to burn on the cruise and feel miserable.

We are so excited we can hardly stand it. I am ready to pack but like the rest of you, don't want to have to iron any more than necessary. FIL is bringing a travel iron with him and he'll be right next door to us.

SLG - I can't believe you get to leave in 2.5 days! We also have to be at the airport very early - 4:00am for us! It seems to me that you have packed light for that many days. I hope to get outta here with less than 5 suitcases for the 5 of us! I could take up a large one just for me. Do I overpack?? You betcha.

Talk to you all soon!

What- did you guys all wait until I got off to post yesterday ? ;)

Lisa - Thanks for looking up the deck 7 laundry location for me. I guess we will just have to deal with any noise. Love your solution to people leaning on your room door ! :lmao: I wasn't planning on doing any laundry but since we will be so close maybe I will to make it alittle easier when we get home.

Gina - The ark is all built ! We really needed the rain, but did it have to come all at once??? As I was typing the :sunny: finally came out, hope it stays . Love Kohl's - one of my favorite places to shop.

Chris - Man oh man you have alot of sandal rules ! :confused3 Thought you only looked at a ladies eyes ?? :confused3 ...yeah...right.... ;) But, I pledge none-the-less.

Sandra - Woo Hoo! Only 2 days left for you, how exciting. If you only have 4 bags for 5 people I think you did a great job of packing. Come do mine ?? Hope you are feeling much better.

and  Welcome Nichole. Join in our craziness.

Those were DW's rules!! The only time I've ever had a "for real" sun burn was on Castaway Cay and it was ON MY FEET FOR WEARING SANDALS!! Ouch!! :scared: I'm a "country boy" and my condition of preference most of the time is barefoot! (My feet are so wide my DW suggests I consider volunteering to stomp out forest fires!?!

Eh (errrr ahh) Hey Sandra, if you're still reading this board in the middle of your chaos, just relax. Remember, it's only a little trip across two countries, (about 8000 miles RT not counting the cruise itself) in 17 days, with 3 kids, 20 pieces of luggage crammed into 4 (?), 5 passports, a DH, all after having just been in the ICU for a month. No worries! :rotfl2: Be safe, my friends.

Hey Nicole, tell your DH to "get a grip" and get "obsessed" like the rest of us!! party: Just keep in focus this trip is FOR YOU and not to please or satisfy the expectations of other (formals, weight, deodorant, etc. --- Well, maybe the deodorant!?!) :crowded: Opinions are like noses - everyone has one (and they are usually "hand-picked"! :sad2: ) Imagine the best and I promise you will be astounded just how much better it will be than you could have ever dreamed. Don't forget every camera you can beg, borrow, or steal! You are making memories for a lifetime in just a week! :cheer2:

Hey Heather, I had a "kohl" last week and am still sneezing. Do you know what you do when your nose goes "on strike"?

Pick-it!! :donald:

Have a great Monday everyone! Gotta go watch for the Pony Express to bring my tickets! :woohoo: You'll all know when they get here!! :jumping1:

Bye for now!
Chris :surfweb:

Good morning everyone!
Just thought I would entice you a bit considering that in two weeks, that is what our Navigators will read!

Heather: Vancouver: Kohl's: I'm there! :Pinkbounc Didn't realize they were so close...so close, yet so far away...:) They advertise here all the time, not sure why we don't have one?

Welcome to our group Nichole! Believe me, I come here to get excited about the cruise because my dh and ds are pretty laid back about it. I can't even get them to play 20 questions, they just roll their eyes and walk away. :wave2:

Chris: here's hoping those tickets show up today!

Hope everyone has a great day!
Lisa

Hi Everyone!!
Well, the 28 person Northern California contingent is well underway in it's mass transportation deployment. It will take 4 vehicles and a hired mini bus to get us all to the port but boy will we be there. Aside from security concerns when we try to get 9 staterooms worth of magnetic doorsigns onto the airplane we are in pretty good shape.
I haven't had too much time to post but I've been lurking as often as possible. What a great group we have on our cruise! It is so nice to see that there are people out there who love Disney and DCL and their families!
We have all reached the "Hard to Sleep" excitement stage. Grandma,88, and the queen of our crew has purchased enough cruise wear to sail for 6 months without a repeat. And our sweet Laura, 3, has finally decided to get with the potty training program just in time for the clubs. Whew!!
Well, I'm going to get back to shuffling the piles of clothes. (Not really packing, just inventory!)
See you at the port!!
Wendi

Ahhhhh! One of my boys (5) woke up with croup this morning! I guess better today then 2 weeks from now. I just hope it doesn't turn into a full blown cold with bronchitis or something! :sad2:

Wendi (ooh de lally gal) wow - 28 people! Are you all coming the day before? Where do you fly out of? Yay for Laura and the potty training! :thumbsup2

Welcome Nichole! My DH needs to get with the program too. He thinks I'm nuts spending all this time researching the cruise, posting on the DIS, etc... Just last night he said " I can't wait until this is over ". What a dud! LOL, but I love him so.

Chris - hope those tickets come today for ya! Sounds like barefoot may just be the way to go for you. Just go out and get a pedicure though ok? - And use sunscreen on your feet next time! :thumbsup2

Everyone else....have a perfectly wonderful Monday!
Heather

Wow...we were away this weekend at a baseball tournament and you were all so busy on this board! The other two families we are cruising with are also on our baseball team so all weekend we kept saying...in two weeks we'll be on an airplane right now...in two weeks we'll be at the terminal...in two weeks we'll be in Key West...I think the others on our team were thinking "in two weeks we finally won't have to listen to them anymore!". :lmao:

I'm really stressing about getting everything done before we leave. Lists are written on every piece of paper in my house!

Loved the sandal pledge Chris, I raised my big toe and took the oath!!

Off to Kohl's...I'll check in on you all later. :wave2:

Dee Dee

Im too am waiting for all of our tickets to come...Im not that worried, (yet)
Checked out disboards and found someone had called to find the movies on the May 6th cruise and here they are (in not particular order)

Movies for May 6th
I just called and asked for the movies that will be playing on the May 6th Western. I thought I'd share for anyone who wants to know:

Chicken Little
Eight Below :cool1:
Herbie: Fully Loaded
The Chronicles of Narnia
Sky High
Flight Plan
The Wild
Casanova
Glory Road
Annapolis
The Shaggy Dog

Chris:

I just read your post, and laughed so much that my assistant had to come and check what was going on.

Now I'm worried I don't have enough stuff! (And I packed 18 pairs of undies so I wouldn't have to do my lingerie in public!) Mind you tank tops don't take up a lot of space. My robe takes up more space than all of my tops combined!

Less than 48 hours until the first leg of my trip!

Keep me posted until then.

I will miss the last exciting days from the rest of you, and it will be weird after we come back not to post.

I'm already thinking when we can do our next cruise. Is it cheaper if we book onboard? And do they have dates for two years from now?

Talk to you later!

p.s. Its a balmy 70 here:)
