May 5th The Big Day, What is Happening?

After having to cancel our trip in September '04 due to a little thing called a hurrricane (or 2) we are finally going to be in DW on May 5th, the kick of for the 50th of Disneyland! My question is should we go to the MK that day or visit another park to avoid huge crowds? Is there anything going on that day that we will not be able to see the rest of the week?

You can always try MK and if it's too crowded head to another park. I think it's just one of those situations where you won't know until you get there.

I will be at WDW that first week of May!!!

I have been following all of this on several different boards...
By all accounts, I think the advice is AVOID MK on the 5th if at all possible.

Everything that is going is geared for the huge press-presence... Not the regular paying guests.... I hear that part of Main Street will even be roped off, and the Press will all be there, taking their turns, to record the best viewpoints of everything that is going on.

With Epcot being closed early, and with the 5Oth, and Spectro, etc.. I would expect MK to be a madhouse. That is my opinion anyhow, for what it is worth.

So, we will not be going to MK on the 5th.

So if we should avoid MK and EPCOT is closing early, will everyone go to AK or MGM? Or will everyone take a pool day? Or do you think people will head over to the "dark side" (Universal)?

we are planning mgm for that day ... hoping to avoid crowds and such at mk

I just got a reply from a friend who works at DW and she said they are planning on closing rides periodically (30 minutes or more) for VIP/Media events throughout the day. She also said security is increased because of the "special guests"

Just MK, she doesn't know why Epcot is closing early. She finds it odd
