May 5, 2012 Fantasy

Hi guys! We will be on this cruise.

Question--did anyone else receive a packet in the mail welcoming you to your "Western Carribean Vacation?" It made me panic for a second until I checked online and confirmed May 5th is still listed as the Eastern. We certainly don't want to do another Western, as we live in Texas and that's our "normal" route out of Galveston.

Welcome Aggiegrl!!!!

We received a welcome packet awhile back, and ours says Eastern.
Heck... eastern ... western... I dont care.
Im going on another Disney Cruise!:cool1::yay::woohoo:

so tell all of us abit about you and your family

Well yes, any cruise is a good cruise! I wouldn't complain too much, other than having to switch cabins. I just saw the posts on the other board from today. Looks like everyone is getting these misleading packets.

So about us. It will be me, DH, and our (then) 2.5 year old son. We are first time Disney cruisers. DH and I have cruised a handful of times on RCCL and Carnival. We love WDW and have been every year for the past 5 years or so. To be honest, we are a little burnt out of WDW so we are taking 2011 off and doing this cruise in 2012

We are also taking some grandparents...not sure which ones right now. I reserved a room for my parents, but now there is talk of my father staying home and my MIL taking his place. We all just got back from WDW in November and I think my dad is a little shell shocked. My MIL and mother together at the F&W festival can do that to a person.

So anyways, that's us. We're looking for a fairly laid back cruise experience. We aren't big on the party/nightlife scene, we don't really care much about casinos, and I'm really just over wearing prom dress style formals for formal night. I'd rather spend my energy dressing like a pirate. I think DCL is going to be right for us!

So glad to meet you and your family.

You will have a great time on Disney. We love pirate night!!!
Hopefully a bigger ship means bigger fireworks!
I dont think too many people miss the casino on the Disney ships, too busy doing other things.
We're going to try to squeeze in a trip to Disneyland this summer. Key word is TRY..:thumbsup2

I haven't booked yet but am 90% sure this is the cruise that will work for us time wise. DH is getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan again in a couple of months and after his year is over and he comes home he'll be able to take his 30 days of vacation. As soon as he actually leaves I'll have a better time frame to go by and will then book the cruise.

I'd like to stick around and get to know everyone even though we haven't booked yet if that is ok.

My name is Melissa (34), Dh is Mark (36) and we've been married for 14 years. We welcomed our first child, Elizabeth, this August but she wasn't due until November so she spent the first 3 months in the NICU. Elizabeth would be 21 months at the time of sailing.

DH and I love Disney and after our last trip to Disney World in 2007 hubby said he didn't want to go back until we had kids. So I'm VERY excited now to take Elizabeth on the Disney cruise!!

This will be our first DCL cruise but we've been on a couple of RCCL cruises and I've been on HAL with my parents/sisters family during Mark's last deployment.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!

WELCOME Melissa and Mark and Elizabeth!!:cheer2:
come and hang out as often as possible, we're not very chatty yet... we still have lots of time to get really into it!

Im Ann and DH is Howard. Im an artist and Howard is an assistant director of a massage school. We're from Arizona, married just over 40 years(but we're really not THAT old!) have 3 kids and 16 grandkids. Love to travel and this will be our 15th Disney cruise.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the welcome, Ann! How great that you've been on 15 Disney cruises!! I have to say that since we decided to do this last Friday I have been glued to the disboards and reading all about DCL. I am so excited but realize there is SO MUCH time until May 2012, lol.

I look forward to getting to know everyone over the next 15+ months :goodvibes.

Welcome to all the newcomers!

NY resolution: walk/run the 1/2 marathon held at the end of April

Ann, how do you like your kindle? I got one back in the fall and I love how much you can store and it's so much easier to carry around, but lately, I've found myself going back to my bookshelves and reading my books :confused3

Melissa, you guys sound so much like us! I'm 34 and DH is 35 and we just had our first baby girl (Lila) on 9/29, 5 weeks early. She was in the NICU for 2 weeks and come home when she hit 4lbs. I know those two weeks were so hard on me.. I can't imagine how difficult 3 months would be! How is Elizabeth doing now?

I can't wait to take Lila either, despite the fact that probably will be scared of the characters and won't remember it. I think at this age, DCL will be much easier (and more relaxing) than an actual Disney trip.

I'm sorry to hear that your husband is being deployed again. What a wonderful way to celebrate his return home though. :)

Anyone else getting soooo excited for this cruise?!?! Now that the Dream is about to sail and we're so much about the ship, it makes me that much more excited for our cruise next year. I wish it were closer, but I know it'll fly by.

We have 2 more additions to our group so far - FIL (Mia's dad) and his fiance just booked this week. We've invited other family members, but so far no one else has booked.

Ann - no New Years resolutions here, except maybe to lose the baby weight, but so far I haven't done so great with that during the first half of January.

Mia - you can do it. I'm rooting for you! :cheer2:

Anyone else getting soooo excited for this cruise?!?!:

Yep, so excited that I've changed our cabins twice! We were in both of the corner 9As on Deck 8, but after seeing pictures we changed to connecting 8Ds port side on deck 6. Today I changed us to connecting 8Ds on the starboard side, hoping for a little view of CC out that big window.

Our family has sorted everything out and now it is my family in one room and my mom and MIL in the other. We will have two grandmothers plus IASW nursery to help take care of our DS. :thumbsup2

For some reason or another, this cruise seems quiet. Compared to the cruises before and after, this one sees to have more availability.

So...anyone thinking about pre or post cruise plans yet? I'm not sure if we'll come in a few days early and do some park/resort time or not. For you experienced DCL cruises, what do you like to do?

Still excited about this cruise... Im excited about all my cruises!:cool1:

I found the room we needed and stickin with it. Cat 6A port aft and it's a accessible... DH has Parkinson's.
This is the quietest meet thread Ive been on... no big deal... when it gets closer.. we'll all get chatty :rotfl2:

At least our FE's wont need to be shipped ahead or making 4 or 5 big lists like my last cruise. We were just abit short of being..... 400 of us:scared1:
You couldnt swing a Mickey Bar without hitting a Dis'er!:lmao:
I wish we could do a few days pre or post cruise fun at WDW, but getting extra time off is hard to do. But ya never know. We've done pre and post fun. I like post the best. So many people ask about a shirt or sweatshirt you have on from the cruise, now you get to be the expert from your cruise and maybe get another family on one of the ships soon. They are already a Disney fan...so they will be listening about a cruise.:rolleyes1

I'd stick with that room too. Good choice!

I think I'm done changing ours as well. I'd love to have a balcony, but it's not worth it to us this time around. I like to sit out there at night, but DS will be sleeping in that half of the room and I know we won't be able to use the balcony without waking him. It's our first cruise with him, so it'll take some adjustment for us. The 8D is just the best value for a non-verandah room, especially since we were able to get Deck 6.

400?! This is our first Disney cruise, so we've never done FE before. I'm hoping this cruise will be a bit more tame than that!

Just reserved our rooms for our first cruise ever and decided to go big or stay home. We are told Disney is the best, so Disney is what we want.

Our group will include:

Room 1- DH, DS (2 years old now), DD (6 months old now), and myself.
Room 2- MIL & SIL
Room 3- Grand-MIL and her Sister

MIL and SIL are 1st time cruisers too, and Grand-Mil and her sister are pro cruisers but never a Disney Cruise.

We booked 3 staterooms, category 08-D on Deck 5. I used to be Active Duty Coast Guard and DH still is, so we know from experience that we like our rooms low and to the stern.

As I said before, we are new cruisers. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. We booked Main Seating, 5 pm show for dining. Is that the best option for people with small children?

Hi, glad to see someone else with small children booked. I have a 14 month old DS that will be going on the cruise with us. We are also in an 8D and have the 5 pm show/main dinner.

Can I make one suggestion? If possible, I would move to the 8Ds on deck 6 or even up a category to Deck 7. Deck 5 is right above the nightclubs. I've been above them on various other cruise lines and you can hear the music and vibrations well into the early morning. I think the possible disturbance from the nightclubs negates any benefit you get from being a deck or two lower.

Hi there!

I booked this cruise back in October but have just found this thread and this is my first post!

It will be me, DH and our DD (5th birthday the week before we sail) and I am so excited already!!:yay:
Have booked a cabin with a virtual porthole on deck 7 aft and we're doing 5pm show and main dinner.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone who will be sailing with us!

Kim

I'm officially booked now in a Cat 11C. I can't remember the room number though. It's going to be me and my husband, still getting used to calling him my husband.
