May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

Where is everyone? I've been following the new trip blogs, so excited that it will be us next time! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Oh, and the Magic just left Barcelona. Next time it leaves, we'll be on board!

Thanks for posting the blog links on the website....so nice to have them all in one place!! :thumbsup2

Still haven't started packing...but I have a huge pile of stuff I want to take -- considering I really want to have just one checked suitcase and one carryon bag between my dd and me, this should be an interesting challenge.

Yes, exciting about prom but it's also hard that I'll miss it (and some of her other Senior events). However, my daughter urged me to go ahead and take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. Her formal dress is lovely on her -- an elegant strapless red satin with rhinestone details. She wants to wear long white gloves and a dramatic rhinestone necklace(still looking for those), with rhinestone hair jewelry (purchased). She's going very "red carpet" classic glam for this! Frustrating thing is she could have bought all this wholesale last August -- she models promwear and had the opportunity to shop for everything when the buyers were placing orders for their shops and showrooms. It's amazing how much cheaper wholesale is than retail. But, did she take advantage of the opportunity? Noooo:confused3..... so here we are pulling it all together at the last minute. Got the hair/makeup apt. made and is going in a group for the limo. Boyfriend will take care of dinner and flowers. DH is under strict instructions to take lots of photos and e-mail me some asap!

Speaking of gowns...I was planning to bring a lovely formal that I bought some time ago and have never worn. Really pretty sage green with a flattering cut (harder to find the older I get, :rolleyes1). Was taking it to a seamstress to have hemmed...had placed it on the mid row seats in my minivan and closed the sliding door...when I got out I saw that some of the chiffon fabric had got caught in the door. My lovely new dress now has a rip and black oil marks on it. :scared1: Guess I have to add another thing to my to do list...shop for another formal.

Life choices can be tough...how to choose!! It is nice that you get to share all the pre-planning with her, that is my fav part :). I can imagine how eager for the photos you will be!

 Sorry about your dress!! Perhaps you will find one you like even better, I hope so *crossing fingers*

Replied a couple days ago ... seems like lots of people have been complaining of problems with the pm system. CJ is hoping to hear from your dd soon. :)

Oh how funny, it didn't show up for me, but it IS there....so thank-you and sorry for my late reply....I'll get right on it!

i see nearly everybody is busy with the packing i still havent started ive got the euros and the dollars ready but nothing else, not sure what clothes to take since it seems to be raining one day and the other really sunny its 10.25am here in Gibraltar today and its really cloudy and looks like if it could rain, whilst yesterday it was a really hot day and most people i know where making plans to go to the beach, what type of clothes are you packing?

This weekend weather has been so nice, so appreciated and needed here in Germany!! I was going crazy with winter dragging on forever, about time spring showed up. Glad to hear things are sunny and nice now in the UK too :thumbsup2

I've been busy with kids, laundry, etc. But did do my door magnets today! :cool1:

We leave for Barcelona (Salou) in 7 days! It's gonna be such a long work week.

The April 24 Med's are at sea...We're NEXT! :cheer2:

Door magnets! I've got to get to those for us or that may be one of the things that just doesn't get done. I don't plan on many to begin with, just a bit of color so the kids can spot our door easily. Good for you, getting yours done and out of the way.

Just a week+......SQUEAL!! :cool1:.....very excited, starting to seem real, this is finally going to happen. We ARE the next cruise, our turn is coming pirate:

I'm bummed that my door magnets didn't work. My printer wouldn't print on the magnets; it kept jamming. So, I guess I'll just stick them on with a glue stick?
Also, woke up sick this morning which means I won't be going to visit my sister and niece like I had previously planned. I thought it would be good to keep me busy so that time would pass quicker. Now...laying in bed with Veronica (daughter who is also sick) trying to get well before next week.

Great blog...thanks for posting. We've been researching Barcelona for months since we are spending several extra days there. One of the first things my daughter insisted we do is go for lots of hot chocolate with the giant bowls of whipped cream. She also wants to visit the chocolate museum....who cares about Picaso, bring on the chocolate!! Can ya tell what our priorities are?:upsidedow

I love that blog. It really made me more excited about Barcelona, especially the food.

I completely empathize. The door magnets were really difficult to deal with. I was nearly in tears trying to get the text set and sized correctly. I had to resize them several times to figure out how to get them to print the full image and ended up with really small magnets. I spent FOREVER messing with them. It was a nightmare. I ended up printing on regular paper and doing a laminate with stick on magnets. I just have a few of them, since it was taking so long and it was so frustrating. As a plan b, try magnetic clips to put some postcards and photos on the door.

I haven't really started packing yet, either. I've started doing laundry, though. I think I'll start tomorrow. I thought about door magnets, but I'm not sure if it's more trouble than it's worth. We'll see... It's getting close! I leave for Orlando to see my family later in the week :goodvibes

The same thing happened to me. I finally got two to print, but it took about 4 hours of dealing with a jammed printer.

Not sure if I'm reading this wrong but don't stick on the door with a glue stick or tape. There's a main post on the boards about how DCL is taking down decorations with tape and such because of the damage they cause.

Yes, don't use glue or any other adhesive that might damage the paint on the door or leave residue. Either get some magnets with adhesive on the back or put some on there yourself and stick the magnets to your door decoration and then you'll be good to go.

OMG! I WASTED a good two hours yesterday trying to set up my pages. Finally I asked my 15 year old son to do it. He went into MS Paint, resized it all and did a print preview before he printed. I tried ONE magnet page myself and it was all screwed up. Since the magnetic paper is so expensive I didn't want to waste anymore so I had my son help.

LOL! You guys thought I was breaking out the glue stick on the cruise?! No, I am printing the images and glue sticking them to my magnet pages, which I will then in turn magnet to the door. :rotfl2:

I'm sure crazier things have been done - desperate times call for desperate measures! My Mom has filled nail holes with toothpaste so my imagination is not lacking on what people are capable of :dance3:

I just filled out our online check in! I've never used the other forms they send in the cruise docs before, but I've always heard that it's easier to do it online.

Also, I finally started packing today and I'm quickly realizing there is no way I can fit everything in 1 normal sized suitcase... I am going to have to cut back some or suck it up and check an extra bag. DCL has us on Luftansa on the way to Barcelona and they let 2 bags fly free internationally, but DCL has us on Delta on the way back and they only let the 1st bag fly free internationally. Plus, I'll have to account for some of the shopping I plan to do :goodvibes

Thanks for reminding me!! Going online right now!! I dread packing...let me just warn all of you now, you'll see our family wearing the same 3 outfits 3x!! :) We'll try and mix it up so we won't totally confuse you all! :) I don't want to pack really nice clothes b/c I am so afraid our luggage will be lost, even though I bought good insurance it only insures us for $200 for contents of the suitcases...that won't cover half our clothes...so I'm trying to get creative!

Thanks!!
Tara

Hey all,

Well the girls finished their dance classes up and had their dance recital on Sunday. They did geat. Too busy last week with casual rehearsals, dress rehearsals and the recital to really think about the cruise. Husbands away until Saturday morning so handling all fourkids on my own all week.

I'm doing laundry, looking into our ports that we don't have tours booked for and thinking about what to pack.

Can't believe that this time next Monday we'll be on a plane on our way to Barcelona!

Can't wait to meet everyone.

(By the way the website looks great! Thanks!)

Lara :cutie:

Thanks Kaleigh for your helpful website!
I am done with my exam and finally getting packing....I am still stressing about what to bring for formal and semi-formal night. Are people bringing long formal dresses or short dresses and skirts?? Can't wait to get on the plane and relax. Actually I'll probably sleep since we leave at 7 am from Seattle. Yikes!
