May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

Hi there
Not sure if this is an appropriate topic but is anyone else a bit worried about their non potty trained children not being able to use the pool? My daughter turned 2 last week and wants to do everything her 4 year old brother does!
Do you think the splash area is enough to keep the little ones occupied or should I have a serious attempt to potty train her in the next few weeks in the hope that she can join her brother in the pool?
T

Totally understand - this is hochan, btw, on FB. My youngest will turn 2 this week and has 2 siblings (5 & 7) so we often say she's 1 going on 4. I don't know if I feel ambitious enough to potty-train in 45 days but I'm not looking forward to lugging around diapers to last 2 weeks. And then not sure if I want to put a toddler through the hassle of searching for public bathrooms while on excursion and worrying about what she's going to touch.

Yes-not sure it's worth the stress, maybe they can splash around together! Did you know you can order baby supplies such as nappies, wipes and swim nappies and they'll be delivered on board? Not sure on the prices but might look into it.

I don't have kids, but I've read reports from lots of other cruisers that their kids had more fun in the splash zone than the pool. Everytime I've cruised DCL, the kids in the spash area seem to be having a lot of fun, though!

The company DCL uses is Babies Travel Lite and it's supposed to be really good. I have heard that you can order direct from the company and it's less expensive than the packages DCL offers, but I'm not sure if it's the same for the Med cruises. Either way, I've always heard good things about the company :goodvibes

Obviously am still working on it, but here is what I have so far. If you want your info on here, just post it to this thread. Also, if you want me to add something, just let me know. If you would like a picture with your info, I can do that too.

Am looking to try and figure out nights/activities. I can cobble together a best guess based on previous cruises and the 11 night itinerary if you guys don't mind that. Hope you all like what I have so far. I have never done a website before, so be kind. :surfweb:

Thanks! Still adding stuff as I can. http://may5med.weebly.com/

Wow to your travel plans! I wish we could have ton some more touring either before or after, but James doesn't have much more leave. (We are Air Force) Plus, it would have been crazy expensive. We plan on doing Germany, Austria and Switzerland next time!

Hey GoofyMum - so glad it worked out for your hubby and son to come along. Sounds like they got an upgrade too! Hmm - you could have a romantic cabin with just you and your dh and then a "boys' bash" cabin with your sons.

Thanks! I'm so excited. It will seem like a proper holiday now!!

Would be nice if the boys could all share a room but I don't think it would be allowed. I thought maybe our 15 and 12 year old could share but I think I read somewhere you had to be 17 to have a room to yourself? I posted a question about this on the main forum but no answer yet.

They can do it. Just tell them to behave. I would do it until told otherwise!

So long as you have an adult "booked" in each cabin you can configure the sleeping arrangements however you wish. Having all 4 boys in one stateroom might be a bit much for your 15 yr old to handle but I would think a 15 and 12 year old would be fine so you and your husband could be in the same cabin. Your older boys would probably think it was cool to have a cabin to themselves and then maybe you could still send the little ones for a sleepover a couple of the nights ;) You'd be the best judge to know if your boys would be OK on their own - as long as they are well-behaved, responsible and respectful of the guests around them, I don't think Disney would care.

BTW, our last cruise we put our three oldest in a cabin together. They were 12, 10, and 8. They did great (though there were a few times we made the 8 year old come in with us). However, their cabin was next door to ours so we could easily keep an eye on them.

I've definitely heard of lots of families putting the kids in one room and parents in the other, but I do tend to see that with connecting rooms.

Well, I'm definitely pushing my "leave" time, but it will be a great trip. We started with the whole, "Well, if we're going all that way, we can't miss ______" thing and then it snowballed a bit from there.

We live next door to Eglin AFB in Florida, btw. Thank you and your hubby for your service.

We are at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL, so pretty close by. We have been in Minot, ND for 5 years and are so glad to be back in the South. I know what you mean about wanting to see everything. I am hoping we'll get stationed over there eventually so that we can really see all that we want to.

We are at Charleston, AFB in South Carolina. (Our Families live in Florida, so we consider that home still:)) My husband has been to Maxwell a few times, actually. We had a similar issue with leave, as well.

Sabercmc, you live in Niceville? My husband was stationed in Pensacola for pilot training, so I used to pass Niceville all the time when I'd drive back home to visit my family :goodvibes

Small world, huh! I'm actually sitting in my firm's Pensacola office right now!

I grew up in Niceville (one of the rare non-Military brats!), moved to Atlanta after college then to Chicago for law school then to Dallas for a big firm job then home after my daughter arrived...I never thought I'd end up back here, but there ya go!

We were at Hilton Head last Thanksgiving, at Disney's resort. Had a great time. Didn't make it to Charleston like we planned though...maybe next time. Gorgeous area. I'd been to Savannah a couple of times when I lived in Atlanta, but never made it over there. So different from our beaches here in Florida!

It is! I grew up in Orlando and both our familes live there, so I'm always back and forth:) I do love Charleston, though, it's such a neat city. We stayed at DVC Hilton Head last year and really enjoyed it. It was a nice weekend getaway. I agree, so different from Florida beaches! I think that's what I miss most about the pan handle, those beaches are amazing!

For the cruise, we're driving down to Orlando a day or 2 before our flight and flying out or Orlando with my parents and sister. (I'm hoping we'll have time for a park or 2 as well) So Excited! :goodvibes

We really want to get over to Charleston while we're stationed here. I have heard it is beautiful. We are originally from Louisiana, so this is a great tour for us to be close to home, especially with our little one.

Cruisers- Would love to have your info and pictures for the website so that we can put faces and plans to names. You can pm me, and I will give you my email address if you want to email me a picture. In the meantime, check out what we've got so far. I have more coming, but wouldn't you know it, building a website... not so easy with a 14 month old running around. :)
