May 4, 2013 Fantasy 7 Night Eastern Caribbean

we purchased trip insurance from travel guard.....we 're military too so we totally understand! I also want to do 3-4 days at WDW before the cruise. Right after the cruise we are moving away from being in (reasonable) driving distance of WDW and I want one last trip before we move! :yay:
I am showing DD lots of pictures of the "big boat" to get her as excited as I am! Can't wait to get her all princessed up at BBB :lovestruc
I haven't really looked into shore excursions yet. Only a quick peak but I didn't see too much to take DD (she'll be 4.5) on. As I get some time, I'll be doing more research....planning Disney vacations is more work than a degree! :rotfl:
I've been contemplating adding a few days at the end of the cruise to enjoy a couple parks, last time we went hubby had some serious back problems that made it unenjoyable....I probably won't be able to convince him to go the parks without our baby but we'll see.

Gotta love the military life....never know what's going to happen next. We're hoping to get orders out of Utah soon. It's snowing today...I grew up here but snow in April is gross...Hoping for warmer climates or Europe.

Hello all!

Fresh off our 2nd trip on the WONDER and booked the Fantasy for 2013. This time we will be traveling with additional family members as well.

I'm already worried of course. They told me on board to book the PORT side as they try to back into Castaway Cay? Is this not the case normally? I see everyone here booked the opposite.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you over the next year!

You would want to be on the starboard side if the ship backs into CC. The starboard side has the great view of the beach. The port side has a view of the dock and construction - at least it did in January. Of course, there is always a chance the ship will pull in forward and then the port side will have a better view. I believe most of the time the ships back in though so you might want to try for a starboard side room...

By the way, I grew up in Sac! Well, Citrus Heights/Roseville...

Lucky!!!!
We've had 80 degree + weather since March first, and haven't seen a snowflake all year... it's like we skipped winter entirely.

Thanks, as soon as Dreams emails me I am going to confirm all our information. Perhaps I am remembering wrong. We sailed port side this trip and starboard last trip. Enjoyed our starboard side rooms more, though I don't have a specific reason "why" for the MR trip, but it just felt odd being on the other side.

I am actually in Citrus Heights. :) Lived here most of my life :) Small world! On our Wonder cruise many members of the board were from our area as well.

Ha! My parents have lived in their same house since 1974 - right by Sylvan Corners - Sylvan/Auburn/Old Auburn. I am actually heading up there today.

Please note that this is NOT how to spend your day in St. Maarten...LOL

Hah! We pass that corner daily. We live off Van Maren near Antelope/i80. If I look over my back fence and squint, I can see the freeway near the truck scales. :) My grandma lives in a house they bought NEW in what I call the "storybook" neighborhood since all the streets are names of things from books, just across Van Maren from us.

This cruise will be: Me, DH, DS (15 at the time), DD (10 at the time), DM, DGM, my aunt & uncle, my cousin and his wife and his daughter (14 at the time). We are trying to get some more family to join us as well, but we shall see. I was happy to get these 4 rooms booked last week. We are all from the Citrus Heights/Orangevale area.

Oh yes - I know those streets well - Carriage, Three Sisters, Midnight, Glass Slipper, etc. When I was a little kid, I remember wanting to live on one of those streets so bad! LOL

We tried to get my parents to join us on this cruise, but they really want to go to Alaska. Maybe a future trip...

Already thinking about meals on the Fantasy! popcorn:: Planning Palo for brunch on the second at sea day and dinner at Remy one night, not sure which one though.

Hi everyone! We just booked this morning! So excited!! :cool1: This will be our family's 4th DCL cruise. Sad that it's still over a year away, but that gives me plenty of time to plan, plan, plan :thumbsup2

We are doing a Palo dinner and possibly a Palo brunch. Hoping to do the dinner on the second night since we will already be dressier than usual because it's formal night. I considered Remy, but we really aren't foodies so I think it would be wasted on us. Should our foodie friends decide to come with us on the cruise, that may change.

We are both foodies and his favorite Pixar movie is Ratatouille so we definitely can't pass it up.

And welcome NC_Tink!

This is our first Disney cruise. Is the food in the Main Rotational Dining Rooms that bad? Or is the food in Remy/Palo that good?

And can you find out before the cruise what your dining rotation is? I heard that we didn't want to miss our first night at Animator's Palate.

I have only been on one 3-day Dream cruise, but I thought the food was good! All I hear is raves about Palo and Remy. I didn't try either one last time because I wanted to experience all of the rotational restaurants.

You won't get your dining rotation until you board. I *think* you can request a certain rotation, but nothing is confirmed til you are boarding. If you don't like what you are assigned, you can try to change it onboard.

You won't want to miss either night in AP, in my opinion. The first night is the Crush show and the second night is the animated drawing show. AT least, I think they always do Crush first...not positive on that.

I think that the food in the main dining rooms is really good, overall. There were, obviously, some dishes that are better than others, but as a whole - we have yet to come away from our cruises complaining that we didn't enjoy the food. And, it usually shows since my clothes are a bit tighter on debarkation day :scared1:.

I, personally, love Palo -- we've had the brunch which is great and dinner is awesome!! Have yet to try Remy -- might be on my list for this trip, but I love Palo so much and don't know if I want to have dinner away from the kids for two nights.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find a way to learn what my dining rotation is prior to the cruise :sad2: You can request a certain rotation -- but there's no guarantee.

We had to move our cruise to September!!! :( Sorry we will not be on this cruise with you guys! Have a great time though!!

The food in the MDR is good, not great, but good. I've only been on one Disney cruise myself back in 2010 so it may have gotten better. Palo and Remy are for adults only which is part of the draw. They are much more intimate, romantic, laid back and just a completely different atmosphere from the MDR. MDR can be fun, a little crazy and much more of a family/kids (even big kids like me!) atmosphere. I have never actually eaten at Remy or Palo myself, yet, but from everything I have heard, the food there is fantastic.

We will also be on this cruise. My DH and I loved Palo for brunch and dinner last year on the Dream. We are getting ready to sail on Mother's Day on the Dream.
