May 3rd-10th****Dis Maytees-May Magic send off

Hi,

To answer Faith&Hope, the most comprehensive list we have so far is on page 27 post 398. I am stating this again for the newcomers to this thread. If anyone wants to be included, pm me your names, where from, kids if you have any that will be on the cruise and cabin number. So far I have only had 13 families check in for the list.

I will PM you my information.
But is everybody on that list participating in the fish extenders??

Or is it just a list with everybody on that cruise??

I am just doing a cruiser list. Someone else may want to do a fish extender participant list.

Hey! I'm going to be booking Stingray City so I have been looking at lots of information regarding it. From what I have read, the Stringray thing at Castaway Cay seems to be more kid friendly than the one in GC. Do a search and I'm sure you'll pull up the threads that I read. I was also able to pull up pictures.

I've seen pictures of this but it's nothing like going to the sandbar and swimming in the water with the stingray. And then getting to snorkel ad actually see something besides the few fish at CC! Did it like 10 years ago by myself without children so this will be interesting!

Here's a little more info about Stingray City with Captain Marvin. I've pasted below the text of an email exchange I had with my TA. Sorry not to post the photos she attached :confused3

First of all, how do we get from the port to Captain Marvin’s; do we need to take a cab? Captain Marvin’s is about a 10 minute walk from the Port. Once you tender in, turn LEFT at the main street and walk down about 10 minutes. Captain Marvin’s will be on the right side of the street in a small plaza (you can’t miss it).

Also, my 5yo doesn’t really swim yet (and, actually, neither does my husband), how important are swimming skills to this experience. You can wear life vests if you like. The water is about 3 foot deep on the sand bar but you do have to swim a bit to get to the sand bar (maybe 50 feet or so). My 6 year old spend some time on my husband’s shoulders until she finally came into the water. J Finally, it’s hard to predict how Joel (the 5yo) will react to the stingrays. Will it be possible for one of us to get back on the boat with him during the experience if he decides he doesn’t like it? Yes, anyone can stay right on the boat instead of coming into the water. The boat hands (and Captain) are very nice and stay on the boat also (there is a photographer in the water with you).

I have attached a couple of photos so you can see how deep the water is and how it is set up. J In the first one, that is my daughter in her Dad’s arms! My other daughter, age 8 at the time, is standing next to them so you can see approximately the depth of water.

We did have one little girl in our group who sat on the boat the whole time and had a blast with the deck hands.

Please let me know if you have any questions at all.

Afterwards, we had them drop us off at the Royal Palms Beach and it was fantastic! We could see the Magic right there and the water was beautiful. Ok, I’ll attach a photo of that beach as well (can you tell I loved that cruise!!!!)?

Is it possible to post the pictures of how deep the water is? That's the part I don't remember and I'm wondering for my little ones how it's gonna work out!!

After snorkeling/swimming for the stingrays and then the coral gardens & Barrier Reef, are the kids still gonna be able to swim at the beach?!?!?

Hi,

I got my confirmation for capt Marvins this morning. We are on the 10 am half day tour. We hope to see more of you join us. I did check into the nativeway tour and felt the capt marvins one offered better timing. We only wanted a short excursion and marvins offered the best choice for us. So that is a factor you will want to check on before making your plans.

Hi CruisinEars! I think we are going to do this also! Then imheather would also be with us!! Are you guys planning on going back to the ship after the excursion? I've heard it mentioned going to the beach afterwards. I love 7 mile beach (I can't remember the exact spot we went last time) but not sure the kids will be able to stay awake that long after being in the water for that long!

Do we bring our lunches on the boat with us? :confused3 I didn't see anything on Captain Marvins page.

Wanna hear something funny? 10 Years ago I did stingray city and I was holding a fish for the stingray to eat. I must have touched the fish on my butt because he sucked my butt and left a hicky on my butt! When I got home, my boyfriend really questioned that one!!:rotfl2:

Anyone else wanna join us on this trip? Bobbi565, are you joining the 10:00 as well?

I was originally planning on doing the Short Excursion which starts at 11:15, but if you all are on the 10:00, that might be more fun. Especially if imheather is there with her 5 yo DS, that'll make it more fun for mine! It's only 1/2 hour longer, but will end at 1:00 instead of 1:30, so we'll have more time after to see the Turtle Farm. I think I'm talking myself into it!

OMG... I just read this and I am laughing so hard at work. :rotfl: Everyone is going to think I am nuts! :wizard:

I was originally going to do the short excursion too, but for only 5 dollars more, we decided to spend more time snorkling. My parents love to snorkel and we felt the 2 hour excursion would just go by too fast. I hope you choose to join us too. It would be a complete DIS excursion. :cool1:

I am not sure what we will do afterwards. I have a feeling we will all be pooped and ready for some shade by the end of the trip. It also depends on the food situation. Hopefully, we can bring snacks/lunch. I plan to pack my soft cooler unless I hear otherwise.

That hickey story is hilarious. Be careful this next time?:rotfl:

Which cruise were you on last January? If it was the 25 - 28, then we were there too! I agree, a 3 day is not nearly long enough!

We were on the Jan 11-14, 2007 (Thur-Sun) cruise. Families with young kids looked like they were having a ball!

We were cruising with friends, who were in the next cabin....they got engaged on the secluded Deck 7 Aft deck. He did the whole nine yards---on his knee, :flower3: a sweet talkin' proposal, ring in fancy box and she said YES:love: , and from above them, the crowds :yay: cheered! They had no idea they had an audience. Some of the "audience" snapped photos and emailed the pictures to them. Of course, we missed it all! The groom was waiting for a quiet moment, the 'right' time, or nerve:confused3

I am so excited!
Now let me tell you about my last experience.. We went 2 years ago so my son had just turned 3. He was afraid of the stingrays but LOVED the boat ride. We all took turns sitting with him on the boat at the stops and he was fine. The captain brought him "creatures" to look at.There was also a big bucket of water that kept him occupied.
There were quite a few people who waited on the boat on the stops. Young kids and Grandma/grandpa mostly. We all including my son had a great time. He even fell asleep for a while.

I can not tell you how gourgous it is! The water looked like bath water, and being May the water was so calm.

Now my dd who was 9 at the time did great. She would stay under water for 20 minutes...She was much better that most adults out there...

We are bring our own snorkle mask because I am a germaphobe. :rotfl2:

LUNCH: We brought lunch.. We had purchased the Disney cooler that they sell on port days. I had brought baggies from home. We ordered sandwiches from room service the night before and packed our lunches:) To be honest I do not remember being hungry because it was hot and so much fun:lovestruc
Grand CAyman is VERY expensive so it is a good idea to at least bring water. On port days they sell soft sided coolers with 6 waters for $20. I still use the cooler so it is well worth it.

What is everyone doing in Cozumel?? We booked a dolphin swim at dolphin discovery. BUT don't tell my 11 year old it is her surprise:)

The rest of the stops we are just going to do on our own...

Heather

Well, I just booked the 10 AM Captain Marvin's, so I'll let you guys know when we're confirmed. I've never been snorkling before! DH is a non-swimmer; will he be able to do snorkling with a life jacket on?

In Cozumel we are just going to spend the day at Chankanaab. I've heard really good things about it, and my sister went there on a cruize years ago and loved it. I figure since we're "doing and seeing" things in Key West and Grand Cayman that we'd be a bit more laid back in Cozumel.

It is a little hard to snorkle when you are a non swimmer for two reasons. If he is not comfortable in the water he will be nervous breathing through the snorkle and the lifevest keeps you in a more upright position so it is hard to stay flat.

But either way it is beautiful out on the water so he will enjoy it regardless:)

We will be at Chananaab as well. That is where dolphindiscovery is:) It is suppose to be beautiful.

I am following you. LOL

Oh yeah, forgot to mention...jdabi, who responded to your original post that started this thread, also has a 5 yo boy, and he lives in the same town I do. We have met up with the kids several times, and the boys are excited that they will be on the "Mickey Boat" together. Ironic, isn't it, that the first three posts on this thread were from families with boys of the same age

If our boys hit it off, you'll probably find US following YOU! Being an only child, DS really enjoys opportunities to play with other children.
My son is not a only child but his sister is 11 so he is kind of on his own alot. Tell your son that Jake loves construction and Army men:) He is a big John Deere fan. LOL As you can see he is all boy...

Heather

I emailed Captain Marvins and they said we can bring on any food or drink we want.

Heather

Any other 5 year old girls out there? We can't be taken over by little boys!!:goodvibes
