May 3, 2012 Dream--3 Night Bahamas

Hello everyone! I have never been on a cruise before. We booked this Disney cruise at the beginning of June. At the time of the cruise, my daughter will be just over 3-and-a-half-years-old and my son will be almost 15-months-old.

I actually found disboards.com because of something I saw on Etsy. I was searching for pirate Mickey stuff when I came across a "fish extender." I looked at this thing and I was like, "What the heck is this thing?" I did a search on "fish extender" and found this website amongst other pages explaining the whole fish extender and door decorating thing. Well, I am getting very excited about this and I would love to participate in the fish extender activity for our May 3, 2012 cruise! (By the way, how many people are participating so far? I assume that the number of participants will go much higher the closer the cruise gets.)

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know some of you and meeting you in about 9 months!

Sandra

Hi Sandra!:cheer2::flower3: and welcome!! always glad to add another to our group and to our FE exchange !!! If you could please either post on here or private message me the following information for the fish extender exchange as I am keeping up with the participants, I need the names and ages of those in your family , your stateroom number, where you're from, and an email so i can send a final copy of our participants list. we've agreed(correct me if i'm wrong guys) on a cut off date of one month before sailing so at that time I will email a complete list of everyone participating. So far we have only 4 (well now 5 with you guys:cheer2:) families that are participating. I don't think that the shorter 3 night cruises get as many families in the FE as the longer ones.our first cruise we didn't do the FE, our second we did, but there was a total of maybe 10 families all together. We are also voting on a name for our cruise group...when you vote get everyone together and let the choose their vote in on visit. you are supposed to be able to enter multiple votes, if that doesnt work just message me the name each on in your family wants. the link to the poll is in post # 117 go there and click on the link and it will take you to the poll. Again welcome! and looking forward to getting to know you

Hi Sandra,
So glad you and your family of little ones are joining in. My fish extender box is full of neat little things for small people and it will be so good to meet someone from south Florida (you lucky person):dance3:Those of us from the cold north can only dream about hot hazy winter nights --- do you realize how lucky you are? Welcome, Sally:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Hello Lisa and Sally!

Well, yes I have lived all my life in the Miami, FL area. Like anywhere it has its pros and cons. Yes, warm weather year round, but right now the mosquitoes are unbearable! And we have to worry about hurricanes!

Lisa: I've been to Ducktown. I have gone rafting on the Ocoee. That area is beautiful. My parents now live near Helen, GA. I also have a brother that lives in Roswell, GA (a suburb of Atlanta).

Sally: Where in Canada do you lived? I have traveled extensively through eastern Canada including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland.

I'll look up my cabin number, etc. and post that information later today.

Okay, I have the info. I don't think I can PM you because it says that you can't PM people until your post count is over 10 and I only have 4 (well, with this one it will be 5).

Our cabin number is #6580.

At the time of the cruise:
The Saavedra Family
1. Sandra, age 32
2. My husband, Guillermo, age 37
3. My daughter, Julianne, age 3 and a half
4. My son, Anthony, approx. 15 months

We live in Homestead, Florida, which is basically Miami, FL.

My e-mail is sandramaldonado(at)bellsouth(dot)com

Would it be possible for me to get the list of participants that have already signed up? My head is swirling with ideas (handmade ones) and I would love to get a head start while I am still on maternity leave. I go back to work at the beginning of October.

I'm a teacher. I am certified in the state of Florida for Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education. I work as a special ed. teacher at my school. However, the students I work with only have mild learning disabilities and we have 100% inclusion. (I believe that I read somewhere that you have a daughter with autism?) Last year I also became National Board Certified in the subject area of Exceptional Needs Specialist. I have worked at my school since 2004. The first year there I taught 2nd grade and I was the general education teacher of the second grade inclusion class. At that time I was finishing my master's in special education. The following year I became one of the school's special ed. teachers and that's what I've been doing since. I work at an awesome school. It's a public magnet school and the kids are great. To go on this cruise though, I am going to have to take a couple of days off. :rolleyes1

Wow! that is awesome! I commend you, teaching is a tough job with pay that i think is no where near enough for the work required. Yes, my daughter is mildly autistic along with other diagnosis: mild Mental ret. (what is the new term now? Intellectually disadvantaged?) sensory processing issues and ADHD. She fits the criteria for asperger's ..but for some reason her psychiatrist/doctor at the time was hesitant to diagnose her for some reason. She is doing so much better than we she started school and i am so proud of her. she is such a loving person .

OH ya!! I meant to tell you that i emailed you the list. let me know if you get it please!!

Hi Sandra,
We live in Stevensville Ontario, about 15 minutes outside of Niagara Falls and 5 minutes from the Peace bridge border to Buffalo. We just moved here from St. Catharines a couple of years ago. Stevensville is a very sleepy little town but so close to everything and so quiet that we love it. We are in a seniors community of modular homes.--Have an indoor and outdoor pool and many group activities that we can join into if we want to. I've never been to eastern Canada ---prefer to go south of the Border-- Florida being a favorite along with Nashville and Gettysburg ( my husband is a Civil War nut)
Congratulations on all your teaching credentials-- sounds like a very rewarding job and it's great that you enjoy it so much. Please give your babies an extra hug today for me Sally:dance3::dance3:

Well, there are a few terms: educable mentally handicapped, trainable mentally handicapped, and profound mentally handicapped. I think you are referring to educable mentally handicapped. I'm not knowledgeable about the diagnosis procedure because that is the expertise of a school psychologist. Maybe her IQ and discrepancies between her IQ and her abilities when she was tested did not indicate Asperger's. But when it comes to diagnosing a disabilitiy, it's not just one thing that determines it, it's a whole slew of things, tests, observations, behaviors, etc. and the list goes on and on.

Lisa you're special. If you weren't you would not have been given your special needs daughter to love. Sometimes we don't get children who are perfect in others eyes but they are always perfect in their parents hearts. Live, love, and be happy, knowing you're doing your best for one of the children chosen to challenge us.:banana:.

First let me say your kids are super adorable!!!

Yes, i've found out there are so many variables to diagnosing disabilities, its amazing. actually a little confusing and overwhelming sometimes.

Oh yes! Very confusing and no two cases are alike!

Hello everyone!! I think we need another topic to keep the conversation going in here.....so now that we know what most of us have planned as far as the days before....what do you plan on doing upon embarkation? What about when we go into Nassau? We usually grab a bite to eat and then check out our room and rest for a while..then head up on deck to go to the sail away party..by the time thats done...its time for us to get ready for dinner as we want the early seating. As for Nassau, we don't even plan on getting off the ship that day. This will be the 4th time i've been and the 3rd time my dh and dd's have been...and we were less than impressed. Plan to enjoy some onboard activities, maybe the pool if its not to crowded. What about you guys??

Lisa

Shane and Shannon are newbies to the cruise thing so we're just going to let them do what ever thay want and if they want us to join them we will. I worry about them being alone in Nassau -- it's not the best neighbourhood -- so I'd like to tag along with them there but I, too, have no desire to see it again. We're just going to play it by ear. I don't want to be constrained to time management this trip -- it's a relax and have fun vacation.

with all the talk about getting on the ship I am going to try to be the last one on LOL I just hope by the time we go it's not going to be all crazy getting on the ship....we'll for sure go to the sail away we too have 1st dinning....I know we are going to all the shows they have each night and other then that just go with whatever we want to do:) I know I going to PINK:)
Nassau I hear this all the time now-- it's not the best neighbourhood---my best friend and I went 9 years ago and it was wonderful we had a great time shopping and talking with the people....I know I am going to get off the ship with my older DD Tori she'll be 14 and my mom and dad are going to stay on the ship with my other DD Maddie....I am not sure if they are going to get off the ship when I get back.....other then that not sure what I'll be doing....I am sure a nap lol
