May 3, 2003 - Magic Eastern Cruisers

Maybe I should try to "sneak" her on the ship!!!! Yeah, fat chance of that!

I mean, the dog is like 5 lbs and mostly fur! She probably could fit in my purse! I'm so used to large dogs and this one is just a little bit of nothingness!!!

Glad to hear about Annie! We've experienced our own joy and sorrow with the various 4-legged members of our family, and the joy is much better. With all the love in your home, she'll be 110% in no time.

We had a joyous Papillon puppy day in our home today, too, so I'm glad the doggy gods are smiling on all the members of the DIS!

The list is really growing now! Can't wait to meet you all!

Thanks again for the list Rae!

We're following the lead of Northermouse and doing our own self-directed excursions. We've also booked a car in St. Maarten and will probably head over to the French side of the island for a little sightseeing, shopping, and local cuisine. We'll probably end the day with a short trip to one of the casinos on the Dutch side. Travis wants to have a hand at blackjack and that's something I have to see.

I watched the show and thought it was great. Can't wait to finally get there! I just hope the weather cooperates so that we don't miss out on Castaway Cay...it looks beautiful and lots of fun. :smooth:

One of the great things about being closer to Las Vegas is . . . going to Vegas! You'll have to ask the DH about 'the voice' that makes it's appearance whenever I wear a red jacket at a casino. Seriously frightens even the professionals

:( We get the Travel Ch. here but only until 3pm and then it changes to AMC, so I didn't get to see it either, but my DD emmak has it taped and is going to bring it down before the cruise.

Happy Birthday in advance Verandah Man, enjoy!!!!Barb:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just read on another thread (live from Magic) that the buffet is back to self serve as well as the coffee bar!!! HURRAH!

Rae

:Pinkbounc :bounce: Rae, I didn't notice it had changed. I thought buffets were self-serve. This is good news then. How were they planning on doing it before?

I am happy to see I'm not the only night owl around. I see the time you sent in this post, looks like me. I think we should be practicing our earlier bedtimes so we can make it up for bkfst. on our cruise, don't you? Emmak told me the Disney Cruise show on Travel was great. I can't wait to see it. Only a little over 2 wks. now, and the E X C I T E M E N T builds. See ya soon!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

There was a period of time after the virus hit the ship that both Magic and Wonder started to have servers do the buffet and 24/7 refreshment bar. It made for very long lines at both and although I do understand the need, I am glad to see that we are back to self-serve.

(I still wish parents wouldn't let young children take things off the buffet - as careful as Michael is, I don't even allow him to do it!)

I guess I'd better warn everyone now about how I am with Michael - I am a very strict parent. The rules we have at home still apply when we are on vacation - "please", "thank you" and just over all good manners and behavior. It's how Tom and I were raised and we want the same for him.

I overdid it today in the yard - between fertilizing, seeding and watering - then transplanting three Hibiscus bushes, and planting the canna lilies, AGGGHHHH! Does it make any sense to fertilize and seed only to have to mow the grass?!

QUESTION FOR ALL:

What moment are you looking forward to the most when we finally get onboard?

For me, sitting on the deck in the sun having shrimp during the Embarkation Buffet!!

Rae

Being with my family

Embarkation day having the kids blow bubbles from their bubble blasters off the side of the ship as the big vessle slowly departs out of port with the serenity of the open sea ahead.

I love the sound of a ships horn as it leaves port!

Seeing my neices and nephews faces when we pull up to the port and again when we first get into the ship.

Jeanne434 lives with her family in a small town and other than a trip to Washington that I took the oldest (DD17) to several years ago they have not had the opportunity to travel. I am so blessed to have won this cruise and be able to share it with them!:Pinkbounc

And we are very glad to have you with us!!! Always nice to have occassions to celebrate - and your good luck is one terrific occassion!

Sun and Moon Date for Day 1 of our cruise

Sun rise is 6:41 AM EDT

Sunset 7:58 PM EDT

Moonset 10:07PM EDT

If you have never had the opportunity to see the sunset over the water, please try very hard to see at least one of the sunsets while we are at sea.

Also, sunrises are my favorite and twilight starts approximately one half hour before the actual sunrise - it's truly an awesome experience to see (again while we are at sea).

Time's will change as we leave Eastern Daylight Time, but the ship's channel will provide the information.

Rae

:earsgirl: :earsboy: Well for me it has to be departure and hearing the music playing and the ship's horn sounding my favorite song and waving goodbye. But most of all just to arrive at the port and see the "Magic" in all it's splendor ready and waiting for us and the look on Mak and Emma's face. (people who know me would be saying, come on now Barb, it's really your face we want to see when you spot that ship) I suppose they are right too, I have tears just thinking about it. Isn't life wonderful!!!!!! Can we even stand the wait? Bon Voyage my friends!!!!!

After this semester, I just can't wait to get onboard and have a Bon Voyage as the castoff party gets started and the Magic sets sail for the Caribbean!

Nothing like feeling that first movement of the ship as the music is blaring and people are laughing, dancing, and celebrating all around you!

Oh my- just reading what everyone was looking forward to the most just gave me goose bumps.
Of course I can't wait to share the whole boarding with my children- they have no idea what is in store. As Auntie Bon said- we lead sheltered lives! Not neccersarrily ( how the heck do you spell that word??lol) a bad thing. I love my small town and it has been a good place to bring my children up. BUT- that will make this magical adventure all the more special! It brings tears to my eyes too- the thought of their thrill!
I am so looking forward to the whole thing- but the first awakening at sea will be extra special. No alarm clock, no rush or schedule. Then it will be time to take a deep breath and relax! Standing on the deck, feeling the slight breeze, sipping coffee- oh life is wonderful! Time to renew and refresh after an awfully stressful few months. That first big deep healthy sigh- thats what I am looking forward to the most.

Jeanne, now you're giving me goose bumps, and I still have to wait until August.

I think for us the best moment after we get on board (which is different than the best moment of seeing Tanner's excitement when we pick him up at the airport [we live in different cities about 3 hours apart -- he visits every other weekend, but it means we miss out on a lot as a family), will be

*after* enjoying the embarkation buffet for the first time,

and *after* seeing Tanner in the pool for the first time,

and *after* meeting the DIS crew,

and *after* our first great meal with our dining companions,

*after* Tanner is soundly asleep from his exciting day, when David and I can sip a glass of wine (me) and scotch (him) and smoke a (pleasant-smelling) cigar (both) on the verandah while the breeze wafts by and the waves crest in the moonlight.

Having just finished two years of full-time MBA school while working at a new job full-time, (me) following a year and a half of living apart while he worked in the US, David and I are good and ready to re-connect, and there's no place finer to do so.

Our dear mascot, Andy alias Verandahman alias Shrimp Thief will turn 48 on April 20 - Easter Sunday!
May I be the first to wish you a very Happy Birthday my dear friend and fellow shrimp thief!

May you always accept the challenges so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory (George S. Patton).

And for those interested, Andy and his family and ours are planning an April 2005 7 night Cruise so that we can turn "50" together in the company of family, friends and shrimp! Please consider joining us for that cruise!!
