May 28, 2011 - 11 Night Mediterranean Sailing from Barcelona

This is what the DCL website says about our cruise now. I wonder if the Civitavecchia and Naples times are correct. We were supposed to be in Civitavecchia until 9:00 I believe. At least they fixed the switched dates.

When the DCL representative called me back the last time things had changed, she told me that whatever is in our documents is correct. I know that they could change them at anytime, but I doubt they would change them after sending out the documents. There is no way they can offer the Rome excursions with a depart time of 7pm, it is practically impossible to get to Rome, see everything on their schedule and get back to the port by 7pm. It is almost a 2 hour drive from the port to Rome.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure nothing has changed.

We are doing all DCL excursions too. The only ones that match up for us are the Mt Vesuvius hike (my husband is the only one doing it though) and the Value package for Nice and Monaco (we all are doing that). :)

We have a 5 year old daughter and so we are doing the Boat Ride to Zingaro Park in Palermo (she loves boats). In Rome we are doing the Vatican City/Colisseum/Catacombs excursion (that is going to be a long day, lol). Easy Pisa in La Spezia and Sweet Corsica in Ajaccio (Sweet Corsica is my choosing, I love wine and candy, heheh).

I am so excited about this trip though I have been having bad dreams about the cruise and it is freaking me out. I had a dream where we got to our room and I opened my suitcase and I hadn't packed any shoes. I am an avid shoe lover and I almost woke up crying. :sad2::scared: lol

I received a call yesterday from DCL regarding the "Sweet Corsica" tour. They left a message stating that the winery visit on that tour has been replaced with an "oil essential factory" visit? Said that the winery had a previous commitment! :confused3

Our pre and post cruise plans are:

We arrive on Friday the 27th at around 10:30 AM and are staying at the Renaissance at the airport. I have no idea what we'll be doing that day since we'll be tired from the overnight flight.

After the cruise, we're staying at the Europark hotel for two nights. I've arranged for a tour company to pick us up at the port when we get off the ship, and take us on a half-day tour of Barcelona, and drop us off at the Europark around lunch-time. I figured this would alleviate the need for transportation to the hotel from the port, as well as giving us a city tour. We'll go to the Magic Fountain that evening. The next day, the same tour company is picking us up at the hotel and taking us for a full day tour of Montserrat and to a Cava winery. They will also pick us up the next day to take us to the airport.

I'm getting super excited!!

Who did you use and what was the cost??? We are planning almost the exact same thing!!!!!

We are using Barcelona Day Tours. The half day tour is around 275 euro for four people, and the full day Montserrat tour is 105 euro per person.

Who are you using?

First time to Barcelona...How is the water to drink? Safe to have ice in your drinks? Had some bad previous experiences in Mexico and, well...

The water is perfectly safe, but it's heavily chlorinated so doesn't taste too great. But a couple of ice cubes shouldn't be too noticeable taste-wise.

In general the water throughout Europe is safe to drink.

Pretty much anywhere in Europe you will get bottled water at a restaurant unless you ask for tap. You will also have to specify your water; flat or sparkling (no gas or gas). Also in Europe, they don't use alot of ice cubes, you will be lucky if there are 3 ice cubes in your drink at a restaurant.

We haven't booked anyone yet. Looking at options!!!!

I am really getting exctied about our upcoming cruise and meeting everyone. I can't believe how quickly these May days are flying by. Happy packing!!

Has anyone been on a Jeep tour in Malta?

We did it last year. It was okay, we got to see a lot, but we got to see it as we were driving by it. If you have a weak bladder don't take the trip, there are no bathroom stops.

We made a stop at some cliffs and looked out over the ocean, we stopped on the side of the road and looked down on Popeye Village, we stopped at a beach for about 30 minutes, then more cliffs by a church, and finally above Blue Grottos.

It wasn't bad.

We're also thinking about Montserrat and wondering if anyone has done it on their own? Is is easy to get to by public transport?

Thanks for any help anyone can give!!!

THE FE IS NOW OFFICIALLY CLOSED.

......We have a total of 20 people on the list.

This is our first time taking part in an FE, so please forgive the questions, but I just wanted to check my understanding is right:-

1/. Your recommendation is 1 gift per family (party) - and there are 20 parties, so we are looking at 19 gifts (as the 20 includes us!). We shall be in connecting cabins, each with its own FE, but we will make clear who is in each.

2/. The budget is a couple of $ per gift. I have seen the types of gifts which people get.

3/. What I am not clear on is, are the gifts for the family - or for an individual in the family, and if so, how does one choose, what's the norm?

4/. They are delivered, in secret, randomly, throughout the cruise. 19 gifts over 11 nights should equate to an average of, say, 2 gifts per day - you might go through a barren spell of several days then get say 4 on the one day etc - its random.

5/. Gifts are Secret Santa style - not attributable to the sender.

Have I missed anything?

On another note......... We got our cruise documents today!!!!!!!:banana:

We haven't received anything yet. When should we have received these by?

Thanks for your help.

:thanks:

Are you doing this after the cruise? If so, our girls are already friends, maybe we should all go together.

Hi everyone,

We are on the ebta & are planning to book this one while on board...as long as it doesn't sell out completely!!

I see that FEs are closed (understandably! :sad1:), so maybe I will just randomly add things to any FEs I see...lol I know I'll have a lot left over from our ta since I'm waaaay over supplied! :hippie:

Hope to meet some of you on board - we have a few B2Bers I know on the ta.

I vote to add dylan's mom in to the FE group!!!!

I was just on the DCL website and looked at the cabin availability for our cruise.
There are many, many stateroom catagories available !!

Do you think this means our cruise is way undersold ???

DH and I went to Montsurrat when we were on the 2007 DCL Med cruise.
If you have the time, go ! It's a good 1/2 day excursion but easily done on your own. Let me know if you need transp info and I'll check with my husband.

Yeah, there are certainly quite a few cabins left. I'm still waiting for my verandah GTY assignment, and since there are still quite a few verandah cabins left I guess they want to see what they can sell first before deciding what to give to us GTYers.

We're definitely not looking at a sold-out cruise, I'd say!
