Husband and I just signed up for the Disney Med. Cruise (May 26) to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. We are so excited! We have never been to the Mediterranean before so it will be an all new adventure. Great to see this site and it's all dedicated to just that cruise! Amazing! I was wondering for those of you who have done this cruise, if you have done the excursion "Rome on your Own", what were you able to see in the 7 hrs you had? We're trying to figure out what we are planning is too ambitious for that amount of time. Looking forward to reading everyone's comments on this thread about the whole cruise in general! Only 85 more days!!!

i know that if it was just me i would definately do excursions on my own to save money, but i am taking my dd7 at the time along with me and im not too sure with all the pickpockets etc.

There are a few ports that do have some pickpocket issues (Barcelona, Naples, Rome) but I would suggest getting a Pacsafe purse, using common sense, and just go have fun! It will be a trip you will never forget!

I feel the same way and my DD is 12! I am doing private excursions with allarounditaly(dot)com. Not a whole lot more expensive and you get to see a whole lot more. If you can find a family to share the expense, it is really reasonable.

Love this site just dedicated to the May 26th cruise! I'm just full of questions, so here goes: How many nights do you get really dressed up...just two and then casual dress the other nights? Looks like the temps are kind of cool at that time of the year....should I take more capri pants instead of shorts?....longer sleeves? Also, I'm excited about doing the Fish Extenders......how many days do you do this? The whole cruise? Sounds like a wonderful way to add some extra MAGIC! lol

I am going to post this on the facebook page also, but I know that several people don't check both places.....
So, it looks like a lot of you are staying at the hotel Novotel that opens at the end of March. Right now we have a room at the Marriott Airport, mainly because of free transfers from airport and to the city. I believe they charge a little for transfers to the port.
What is everyone doing about transfers at the Novotel. How much do you expect to pay? I am also concerned since there will be 5 of us and we will not fit in a regular "taxi". We want to get out in the city some on Tuesday so I figure we will need from the airport to the hotel, into and back from the city, and to the port on Wed. morning.
I think it would be great to stay where everyone else is and the rate is great there (espically since they give you half off the second room).

I think there is one formal (1st sea day) and 2 semi-formal. Its totally up to you how dressed up you want to get (and how much you want to pack!). The key is layers as temps can vary, esp also depending on what excursions you do. Mount Vesuvius you are at higher elevation. Long sleeves that can be rolled up, packing sweaters, sweatshirt or even light jacket/windbreaker.
For FE's, PM threebritts to let her know you are interested. They are assigning your day to deliver gifts.

As far as clothing, I'm packing mostly capris and a couple of long jeans as well. I hate being cold!!! I will also pack a light jacket and a sweatshirt for those cooler nights on the ships balcony!

As said before it should be one formal and two semi formal. You will see everything from tuxes to jeans on formal night.

I think capris are a better choice than shorts for 3 reasons:
1. The temps can still be a bit chilly this time of year.
2. You will blend in much better with the Europeans in capris than in shorts.
3. Nearly every Italian church will require knees and shoulders to be covered to enter--so shorts are too short to do the job but capris work great.

DD and I tend to wear capris all summer anyway. We pair them with layered tanks and/or tees and then a light weight jacket, cardigan or unbuttoned, lightwieght button down shirt if it is cooler out. Layers really help as it will probably be cool in the early mornings with the sea breeze in port but possibly quite warm in the mid day sun an hour inland. It can also be chilly in catacombs.
