It's somewhere in my list of FAQs. I should probably post it again with the answers and then have Ken refer to it. Maybe this weekend if I get the time.
Anyways - the answer is yes. You can get on and off the ship just bring your passport. You can also just dump your luggage, check-in and come back to board later. I believe the last boarding is at 9pm, but I don't recall for sure (guess I should work on those FAQs).
I'm not quite sure what we will do. Since we're already "on vacation" and Barcelona is so cool - I'm not in my usual rush to be the first on board. Yet it will be interesting to see what the port is like. It'll all depend on whether I can get a late checkout or luggage hold at our apartment. If not - we'll check in. If so, we won't check in until later. I've found conflicting info on the Sardana dancing as about half of my sources say Saturday noon and the other half says Sunday noon. A few even say Saturday at 6:30pm. There's a news rag I can pickup when I get to Barcelona that will tell for sure. So.... until the 24th!
