May 26, 2007 (5/26/07) "First Magical Med Cruise!!" (The M&M's!)

I just saw your photo, Celeste......you are but a mere child compared to me! I'll be turning 54 on the Med cruise and will be closer to 55 when - and if - I do the Disney half. I can walk fairly fast and average under a 15 minute mile on the treadmill. Today I walked outside and did 6.38 miles in 96 minutes.

I am 33 and will be celebrating my 12th wedding anniversary on our cruise- without my husband. :rotfl2: :lmao: Robb told me that I had to toast to 12 more years with my tablemates at dinner on the day of our wedding anniversary- May 27th. (Jenn & Peter married the same year and in the same state, if I am remembering correctly) Atleast he gets out of getting me an anniversary gift- my gift to him will be cheese from Italy.

If you can maintain more than 16 miles per hour for atleast 10 miles- you should be fine. I did my first year without training, because Robb told me I couldn't do it. I would recommend if you are thinking about it- register for it! Nothing beats commitment, like being committed.

Who was it that was talking about the BBQ? I will actually be in Orlando from April 27th through May 6th and yes, I am doing the Minnie 15K on May 6th. I have a nursing convention and I plan on going diving. Anyone want to be my divebuddy? I'm thinking of going with Kississimee Dive club's trip over one of the weekends and possibly going to see the Manatees again and hit the scuba sale at American Pro Diving on May 5th.

I love you, too, Jenn? Peter?

So is spros married to kpros? Can't wait to meet all the marathoners....I need all the encoragement I can get!

Ken does crazy long rides....for the Arthritis foundation! When is your ride Ken?

I would rather ride for 100 miles then run/walk for 13. The Arthritis Ride is Sept. 29 through Oct. 6. 525 miles of some of the very best landscape California has to offer. $1300 raised so far (trying for $10,000).

See, I said you were a child!

16 miles per hour? Wow, I can't do THAT! I shouldn't have any problem with a 16 minute mile though, but that doesn't give me any time for a pottystop or if there's a bottleneck. Guess I'll need to stock up on Depends. What happens when you get swept? Do they drop a line or deactivate your chip or what?

I think she meant a 16 minute mile. Shari averaged about 15:30 per mile for the Goofy. If you don't make it to a check point by a certain time, you will get bused to the finish area - and no medal for you. I think if you made it to the 10 mile mark by a certain time on the half marathon, then you are safe the rest of the way.

;) Sorry, I shouldn't attempt to do the disboards while I am studying...
Yes, it is 16 minute miles....and you'll be surprised at how little you will need to go- as you will sweat most of it out. Esp. if it is as hot as it was this year. Holy Cow!

Swept- I've never been swept, so I'm not sure. I believe they put you into a bus or van and take you to the end. I do know you still get you medal.

No medal? I thought you still got the medal for the event you were doing- but if you did goofy, you wouldn't get the goofy medal- even if you finished the other race.

Wow....guess I'm glad I never got swept. Those people are harsh! :scared1: I know Adrienne got swept a few years before and she got her medal- maybe they changed it since? (Sorry everyone who doens't know Adrienne- she is from CA and has gone on past trips)

Maybe you do get the medal - I was going on info provided by Shari and then she said she wasn't sure.

Hey Celeste, It will be our anniversary on May 27th as well!!!! Kelly & Jonathan:banana:

Jonathan is a cyclist as well, he has done the 100+ rides for cancer. We support the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I'm a walker, but my knees won't let me do the longer walks. Mostly I walk because I love food!

Can I come toast with you? I should get a photo of us with a cake- Robb would think that was funny...

Anyone else??

I will go around randomly celebrating with strangers....:flower3:

Good Morning Everyone!

Slipped to page 2 - can't have that.

Have a great day!
Ken

One way to get some posting action on the thread and learn a little about each other is to give a little information about what you do and/or how many DCL cruises you've been on.

If anyone wants to participate - I will start.

Shari and I are both CPAs in California. Shari works at a CPA firm and audits public school districts. I work for the Ventura County Office of Education in the business area monitoring school budgets and financial transactions.

This will be our 8th DCL cruise (the Med repo cruise will be our 7th DCL cruise). Magic cruises: 4 day, 7 day eastern, 7 day western, 10 holiday, 14 day PC repo. Wonder cruises: 11 day Southern.

We recently joined DVC. We try to do to Disneyland at least 5 or 6 times a year.

Ken

I'll jump in...

Bill and I live in the Midwest near Madison, Wisconsin. Bill is a computer geek (don't tell him I said that :goodvibes ). Actually he works for the University writing programs for billing of distance education programs.

I have been a paralegal for 14 years (8 at my current job), but I'm leaving that job very soon. I am also a full time travel agent for Dreams! I have planned many cruises (mostly for others :rotfl: ), but have been on eight cruises (Bill has been on 7). We've been on 3 7 night Eastern, 1 7 night Western, 1 14 night Panama Canal, 1 11 night Southern, 1 3 night Bahama and 1 4 night Western on two cruise lines.

This cruise is number 7 on DCL for us.

My turn:
We are Jeanne and John, both in our mid-fifties but very young at heart.
We are native New Yorkers (good ol' Manhattan Island) although we have been living in NC for the last 8 years. John is an ophthalmologist and I take care of all the business's financial aspects. Most of the time I work from home which allows me to check the boards throughout the day. We have 4 children, but they are all in their 20's and out of the house...at the moment.
We are also DVC owners since just about Day 1 (1992) This will be our 6th Disney cruise. We've been to Europe a few times and have seen most of the major cities offered on the cruise excursions, so we plan to do some things a little off the beaten track. We will NOT be going to Rome and need some suggestions for Civitivecchia. We've sailed with Tracy&Bill and Peter&Jenn before and are looking forward to meeting all the new people...especially the marathoners!

My turn…
I am Celeste; I am an RN and have always worked in critical care. I currently work in Chicago in a neurosurgical intensive care unit- taking care of patients who have had brain surgery or have very large bleeds, which might require surgery. I am currently going to graduate school to be an acute care nurse practitioner, and I will be doing an online course during the cruise- so be prepared for class participation! (Past cruises included death rates in Alaska and advanced physical assessment) I will be celebrating my 12th wedding anniversary on the cruise, without my husband, Robb. Robb is a developmental pharmaceutical scientist and we have one child together, Noah- who is 8. Robb and Noah will be home and I am sharing a room with my friend Jennie from California.

I have been on the Magic for eastern, western, and repo and the Wonder for the Southern in September. I REALLY love scuba diving and am currently working on my rescue certification. I enjoy doing half marathons, but I am not very discipline in training for them. My current “physical” goal for the year is to learn to run, so I can do the full marathon next January. I traditionally walk.

I have grown up traveling, but I have never been to Spain or France. I was last in Italy was with my parents, for a few weeks before I got married. I am known for doing rogue shore excursions, while on DCL. (Yes, I sent Jen shore excursion info for the webpage.) My future travel goals include Alaska, Africa, Costa Rica, and the Galapagos Islands. I would also like to spend time in Africa working in a clinic when I am done with school.
