May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

I didn't book a new cruise or move a dummy - for myself this time

I am waiting to see when there will be a east bound Panama Canal for next year :rotfl:

That is what I want as well. My DH says he can't get away from his business for two weeks, so I may have to go by myself.

Hi Everyone,
I am new here (and to Disney cruising) and looking forward to joining the fun on May 24th. We have 2 cabins - an inside on deck 6 booked for myself, DD (7), and DS (3) and verandah GTY for grandma. I live in Vancouver and have cruised Alaska many times so happy to provide any tips if needed. Would appreciate any inside info/tips as far as Disney cruising goes!

Welcome to the group and the DIS boards :) I haven't been on this particular ship , but Disney cruising is fairly easy. Just show up and be pampered. Also, you will be given a paper with all the activities and character meets every night for the next day's planning. Make sure you reference it to get to the characters you want to see, or your little ones want to see. :)

Hi,
I filled out the form to join the FE last week. I haven't heard anything and I'm new to this. When would I know if I'm in and how many people to make items for? Thanks.

I am getting excited now - the kids don't know about the trip, planning on just showing up and surprising them! They have both cruised before and love it, but the older one has wanted to go on Disney since the first time the ship docked in Vancouver a few years ago! Does anyone know anything about the Princess tea party I have been reading about? She would LOVE that! I am thinking there may not be too many kids onboard since school is still in session - yup, taking my first grader out of school for a vacation!

I was always yanking my kids out of school before I started home schooling. I support family trips :thumbsup2

I don't know anything about the tea, sorry

We did this on the Wonder over New Years Eve. When you board, go to Guest Services and ask if they are offering the Tea with Disney Friends. If they are, you'll be able to sign up for it. It was a free offering.

I believe the princesses change, but we had Rapunzel and Tiana. We started with Rapunzel who shows everyone how to place napkins in their laps and carefully pour the tea. Then Tiana was introduced and they both visited the tables (no autographs or pictures) while we 'dined'. Then Tiana taught us how to waltz and everyone got to practice. Afterwards, they had two backdrops, one for each princess, and everyone got to go take pictures with the princesses on their own cameras.

I will say, my 5 year old niece loved it; my 7 year old niece (and tea lover) liked it but was dissapointed that we had pretend tea (apple juice); and my 9 year old niece tolerated the whole event.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info! Hope they do it on this cruise...my 7 year old would really enjoy it I think (or maybe mom is the one who would enjoy it). Ha ha. I keep telling myself this cruise is for the kids, but I am soooooo super excited for the Disney experience!:cheer2:

I have posted this everywhere, so you may be seeing it more than once.

Regarding the measles outbreak on the West Coast, East Coast and in Vancouver--I went to my Dr. today to see if I needed a vaccination or update, etc. She found out from a previous titer that I have no immunization to measles in my system, so she recommended the MMR shot (Mumps, Measles, Rubeola).

Since her office does not treat children under 6, they don't have the vaccine, so I have to go to a Passport Health facility (a place that gives you shots for Dengue fever, etc., when you travel).

Called them and they say that with my "advanced age" I may require the shot and a booster, which have to be given 30 days apart. So, I am scheduled this Thursday for the MMR and they will determine then if I need to go back for the booster before I fly out on May 17th. She said it would be $105 for the shot and $45 for the office visit.

There was an interesting story on Good Morning America this morning talking about how many more cases of Measles there are in California right now than this same time next year. California (and some other states) does not require parents to immunize their kids against Measles.

My Dr. also said that there are some Pertussis outbreaks being reported (not sure just where), but she recommended and gave me a Tetanus-Pertussis vaccination.

I also got loaded up on all my drugs, including generic miclezine, and some things for just in case. Just thought this might be helpful to anyone that may not have had to think about immunizations recently.

One more thing--she also said regarding Norovirus and being on the ship--make sure you wash your hands with soap and water and rinse thoroughly. She said that hand sanitizer does not destroy the Norovirus.

I just saw this thread on the main postings.

Warning for Summer 2014 Vancouver

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a warning/FYI for anyone cruising in summer 2014 from Vancouver for Alaska.

The rapid transit station (Skytrain, Main Street station) that is by the Amtrak terminal/Greyhound terminal is undergoing construction for the next 6 months (through the end of Summer). As such, only some trains will be stopping there.

Please be aware that there will be many trains passing through the station, and only some will stop (the shorter ones, 1/2 length). These will be between Broadway and Waterfront (aka: one stop before, and all downtown (4) stops.

These will not be as frequent as the regular trains, and will only be coming about every 10-15 minutes. This is being called Train2Main

Hi,

Welcome Aboard, I know MoonDaughter will get back to you soon. If you want, you could send her a PM to see what the status of the list is, but I don't think there is any problem in joining.

With your screen name, I bet you are making some cool FE gifts. If you haven't joined the FB group, you might want to jump in there as well.

PS I am so glad I'm not the only one who looks at the pre-arrival guide every other day, I just save it as a pdf though hahaha.

Sent from Stephie's iPhone using DISBoards

Me too. I have it saved to my iPad. I haven't checked in a few days because I had zero spare seconds, but I'm proud of myself for not thinking about it. Of course now that I've reminded myself I'm going to check it again. :lmao:

No judging here. I'm with you although I do have to leave wiggle room cause the family balks at all my plans. Don't they know I gotta it all figured out:upsidedow

EXACTLY!:goodvibes Although my plans never go according to plan, but having it all figured out still put me at ease when I have to switch to go with the flow mode. :rolleyes1

Hi there! :wave2: You are definitely added and I sent you an email Sunday morning with a link to download the list. I will try resending it, but check your spam in case it went there.

I have posted this everywhere, so you may be seeing it more than once.

Thank you for this. I've been looking for my immunization records to have handy for when I can call the doctor's office near me to see if I need a booster. What a time to misplace my records. :worried: My daughter is covered, but I know I haven't had a booster in at least 25 years so I'm trying to find out does it hurt to have another booster. I think I'll just call in the morning anyway.

Is it time yet?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Man, keeping the rest of the secret is killing me. I've come soooo close to spilling the beans so many times it is not funny. :rolleyes1 Then my MIL has to skype with me to talk about the cruise, she can't email:headache: I really never thought it would be this hard to keep the secret. But it's killing me:rolleyes:

Thank you for letting me get that off my chest. I feel better. :upsidedow

I have gotten done my FE thingy. So that is done and ready to hang. Magnets are almost done and ready to go. My fridge looks amazing:woohoo: It is helping to keep me in the mood for the cruise. Of course DH is not here to keep those in check :rolleyes1 What the kiddos don't know is the plan is to share the magnets with the family coming:rotfl: And I have a Disney advice/Hidden Mickey book for the graduate done. If you see her walking around trying to find HM and trying to get a pic, don't be surprised:)

Is it time to go yet?? Can you tell I'm excited and ready to go?? I am so ready for some family time.

Just saw on Facebook that people were finally being assigned to staterooms so I went and checked and sure enough we have a stateroom assignment!
#8012! :yay::yay::yay:

Any reviews?

Now how do we go about getting this information out for the FE? Should I just send an email to the people in my Minnie group?

And I thought that thread was an April Fools joke.

I am guessing that once most people have sent their cabin nos. to Moondaughter, that she will be sending out an updated list. I am not trying to speak for her, but I think that is what the plan was. :goodvibes
