I have taken stuff to our local teaching store where they have laminating machines large enough to laminate posters. Office Max and other copy service stores can probably laminate a large map as well. I would think the hard thing about having it laminated would be folding it up afterwards. It wouldn't fold up very flat.

We have a laminator here at the office, but it makes everything here very stiff and there would be no way to fold it at all. We get posters and stuff that are kind of flexible, you could at least roll it up, wonder where you get that done.

I need to look at the map a little closer, too, it probably has a lot of area that we won't be sailing and don't need all of the map.

Regarding that logo, a friend of one of the travelers made it for her. If you go to the site that is on the bottom, you can do your own thing, but the Mickey head icon is not one of the shapes that I saw as available.

I've been away for a while (vacation and then a flu-like virus knocked me out for a bit). Wow! This group has been busy! I see I'm still listed as a maybe in the first post. Well, my in-laws decided to join us, so now we are officially staying on the Wonder and our party size has gone up by another stateroom.

I just sent my request to join the Facebook group and I look forward to getting to know you all there.

Mine was delivered from Amazon yesterday, and I have thumbed through it and I think I will be pleased with the purchase. The book literally takes you up the coastline and tells you what to look for at each mile and then has several pages on the ports. The map is huge. On the back cover someone is quoted as saying they laminated the map to use while on their verandah, but I don't see how they did it unless it was cut up and done in sections.

Another possiblity would be that they used contact paper to "laminated". I have used contact paper to do that. It would not be stiff and you could roll it up.

According to another thread, it is official, there is no Pirate's Night on the Alaskan Cruises this summer. My guess, that they won't be on next summer either. I'm okay with it. Pirates and Alaska just didn't mesh very well. Not thrilled with the Pixar Pals part of it. Been there done that!

OK by me as well and I agree that Pirates and Alaska don't seem to go together very well. I am sure kids will be disappointed though, probably some adults too.

Contact paper is a very good thought! I know lamination does come in different thicknesses as I witnessed when making my purchase for sheets of it at Staples so that could be it too but I really think you came up with a good flexible idea in the contact paper! It usually comes rolled up so that would store well.

I think we will be ok with no Pirates. My son won't know the difference and will be happy with Pixar. Besides it will be easier to get through customs without and pirate swords in our bags I am sure

I'm okay with the pirate night thing, but I know the kids are going to be really disappointed. They LOVE dressing up and really getting into it. I'm not sure how being involved is possible with the Pixar theme. Feels more like just another "show/activity" rather than immersion.

I know we are over a year away, and it's getting into the 90s here, but I took advantage of the Grand Opening of the new Premium Outlet Mall near our house and bought some fleece and rain gear at the Columbia store. Not only were the items discounted, I got an additional 25% off as well. I couldn't resist. So, we are set for Alaska and our Seattle trip this summer.

Saw that also, we enjoyed the show but never dressed up so If we get to see, pictures and signatures of the Pixar Pals We could be all about that.

His loss, it will be great! I'm so impressed you have so many family members willing and able to go. My sister is the only one I can travel with. Everyone else either can't or won't.

Well DS has said he will pick a random day and dress as a pirate anyway.

Hello, just booked today! This will be the first cruise for my DH and DS, and first DCL and trip to Alaska for all three of us! DS will turn 3 just two months before the cruise... still trying to wrap my head around the fact that he is two, no idea what we're getting into cruising with a 3 y/o, so this cruise might be interesting! But DH has been anxious to try cruising and I've been dying to visit my 49th and 50th states (AK & HI) so we thought we'd try to fit one big trip in before DS starts preschool. Couldn't resist that this cruise has an extra port in Sitka, and figured DCL would be the most fun for DS! And so glad I can tell DH I'm not the only one already booked and researching excursions... if anything it looks like I'm late to the party! Thanks for all the posts and information so far, I look forward to reading more!

NOOOOOO! It looks like I'm the only adult in this group upset about no pirate night. (But then again I'm just a big kid paying bills.) I may have to protest by wearing my costume anyway and making a gigantic "Lumber Jack" door magnet.

I'm not excited about Pixar. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the movies, but the costumed characters (aside from Merida) just doesn't give me the same happy feeling as the Fab 5, the Princesses and Jack Sparrow.

You're not alone. Love the movies also, but can't really see getting in to it like pirate night. The kids are insisting on bringing their costumes anyway. We could always pick a day for those of us that still want to "Rrrrrr" get our pirate on!
