I definitely know nothing about this law - I'm still awaiting a response from DCL but did find that Victoria and Vancouver are listed as foreign ports on the cbp website. I'm sure many people will have done these back to backs in the past - looking at the fish extender lists it would affect many people if we werent able to do these two cruises b2b

Yes, Vancouver and Victoria are foreign ports (they're in Canada). But they are not distant foreign ports. A distant foreign port is defined as any port NOT in North America or in the Caribbean. That's where the problem is.

I am on the B2B cruises - We will not be overnighting in Vancouver. We will have Sunday in Vancouver and then reboard and sail away. We will return Monday morning and everyone will need to disembark and go through customs.

Those of us going on the Alaska cruise will check-in and reboard the ship. I am not sure why they would consider it 1 cruise. I am not saying you are incorrect but unclear why they would consider it that way.

I have spoken with DCL who assures me I am fine and I certainly hope so since I have a lot of money now tied up in this. They have notated my portfolio that I am a B2B cruiser.

Let me know if anyone hears anything different.

Did you specifically ask them why the PVSA doesn't apply? I'd get it in writing that you're OK to do this.

Yes - because we go through customs in Vancouver. I have requested it in writing but we shall see.

I called DCL again. I just spoke with a Manager on the TA line and was informed that DCL is aware of this Act - and that we will not be in violation of the Act.

We will need to disembark on the 21st with everyone and then check in for our cruise to Alaska.

If we did not "check-out" and just stayed on then we would be in violation but we will need to go through customs just like everyone else. They will not provide anything in writing unfortunately per DCL.

If anyone gets anything different - please let me know.

Is that overnighting as in the LA-Vancouver cruise arrives at, say, 7:00 am and everyone disembarks. And then the Vancouver-Seattle cruise embarks at, say, 5:00 pm the next day? In that case, I believe, the B2B people would be OK. If it's arriving on one day and everyone stays onboard and disembarks the next morning (the second day), and the the ship leaves that afternoon for the second cruise, I don't think that would be OK.

I wonder whether the other cruise lines that won't let you do this actually leaves out on the second cruise on the same day the first cruise comes in. It seems that the repo cruise comes in on Sunday and the Alaska cruise doesn't go out till Monday, so what you said about staying in the city 24 hours is actually happening. The difference is that the second cruise is on the same cruise line. Do you suppose that's where the difference lies, and that while it is necessary to stay in the city for 24 hours, it's not necessary to go on a different cruise line? I hadn't thought about the fact that the ship is in port for over 24 hours before it leaves again, but this could be the reason for the extra long stay. The cruises that leave and return to the same port don't generally do this, and leave on the afternoon of same day they come in.

I imagine that everyone else's will begin to trickle in within the next few days. They must send them out to Canada (and possibly Europe) earlier in anticipation of it taking longer to get here.
