I’m new to this forum and cruising in general. I just got off a Carnival cruise and am interested in a Disney Cruise. I’m specifically planning May 2021. Can anyone give me a time frame to expect these to possibly be released?

TIA!

Deleted what I had first wrote, sorry!

January to Mayish 2021 cruises will be released in October 2019 (or so).
Mayish to September 2021 cruises will be released in Feb/March 2020.
Sept to Dec 2021 cruises will be released in May 2020.

so you're either going to be looking this October, or next spring, for your May 2021 cruise.

You will find that Disney is one of the very last companies to release its itineraries, unlike Carnival, NCL, or RCL. :(

has the new ship inaugural sail date been released for 2021?

I wish they would come out earlier, RCL has a great cruise for our spring break week in March 2021, but I am hesitant to put down a deposit because I have a placeholder for DCL. Decisions decisions! :-)

Usually, DCL repeats their schedule. No guarantees, but if there's something that looks interesting in 2020, there's a chance 2021 will be the same or similar. That might help you with planning.

With a sizeable jump in the price, of course.
Not necessarily. Our 2020 cruise was listed on opening day as cheaper than our 2018 cruise. Almost a $1000 cheaper for a cat 4B in 2020 than the same week in 2018.

Now, maybe they knew before opening day that it would become a SWDAS cruise and priced it as such. Then, the 2020 cruise is not going to be a SWDAS, which might be the difference. I will say, though, the 2018 cruise never went up in price, but the 2020 is now a $1000 more than opening day.

I think RCCL still offers some refundable deposits (granted at a higher rate, but still). You could always book with one of those to lock in a cruise, then cancel it if you like Disney's better.

There goes everyone's statements about how DCL never lowers their prices! :rolleyes1

and that is why I book on opening day.

I would say the comparison isn't necessarily apples to apples. A lot of cruise fares depend on the events that year. For example, in 2018, Easter was April 1 and thus there may be more spring breaks occurring within that time frame (concentrating demand), whereas Easter in 2020 is on April 12 and so spring break may be more spread out. To put it another way, it wouldn't make sense to compare just a single cruise fare to the most similar date the next year. It would be better to compare for example, first sailings of a particular season to first sailings of another season or last sailing to last sailing. Alternatively, look at the cheapest fare for one year v. the cheapest fare for the next year.
