MAY 2020 WISH Challenge - Anything is Possible

It was a blast! My criteria was to use each type of transportation, do three attractions in each park, eat something in each park and get my photo taken in front of the icon in each park. I started at AK, with EMH that morning, took a bus over to Studios, then a boat to EPCOT and the monorail to MK. I didn't use any FP+ (at that time you could only do one park a day anyway), and just chose the attractions when I got to each park. I made it to MK by 6pm, and was dragging... the photos are funny because with each park I'm more disheveled, sweaty and tired looking. I had dinner at Skipper's Canteen and rallied after drinking a couple gallons of iced tea. I've been wanting to do it again, but just wasn't feeling great the last couple of trips... my trip last June I had just figured out the lectin allergy and was learning how to eat with it. I'm certain I'm going to move my September trip to next March, and will give it another go then.

How fun!

I have been eating too much, too often. It’s going to catch up to me eventually if I don’t get it under control. So today I get back into a good routine.
I got my notebook out and wrote out my meals and snacks for today. Looks like it’s going to be a nice day so will get out for my walk.

I found this today and it is so true for me. When I look at one day at a time or one week at a time, it seems like it will be forever before there will be a difference. But, when you think about how quickly 3 months comes and goes, you realize the the days and weeks turn into months and years and it absolutely does matter. Even though I have close to 100 pounds total to lose, (which sounds completely daunting), in 3 months, if I keep working my plan, it will make a difference and I will thank myself for sticking with it!

Are you taking steps to help you achieve your goal? What is motivating you to get it done today? This week? Or this month?

My motivation today is that I skipped yesterday. :rotfl2:

Seriously, though, I had planned to take Mother's Day off in my exercise schedule, so I just made sure I walked a bit on the treadmill early today, before little things could creep in and cause the day to get away from me.

My longer-term motivation is to come out of this time at home a little thinner and more physically fit. The step on concentrating on this week is portion control!

I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day. This weekend we didn't do much on Saturday. It was cold and we had snow. I watched Dance Moms with Elizabeth and Survivor with Nick. We have now completed season 4 of Survivor. We also made the kids watch A League of Their Own. The kids really liked it. I forgot how much I cry in that movie.

On Sunday we didn't do much but I did get out for 2 walks in between the storms. I did get to talk to my mom until she lost internet.

TRUCK UPDATE
Got the plates so everything was ready to go. We were at the bank to deposit the money we took out of savings to cover the cost of the truck repairs and the plates along with a little bit of a cushion. I had discovered that we overdrew our checking account by under $5 over the weekend. When we got a phone call. It was the manager of the repair shop with an update on the truck. They got the transfer case put in but discovered they misdiagnosed and it was the transmission. They are not going to charge us for the transfer case because it was their mistake and gave us the option of a used transmission with a 1 year warantee or a rebuild one with a 3 year warantee. We are going with the 3 year one. We are looking at it possibly being ready by the end of the day on Wednesday depending how much flushing of lines they have to do on the truck. So instead of getting my truck back today or tomorrow I get it back on Wednesday at the earliest if not by the end of the week.

Its Topic Tuesday!
As the weather starts to get warmer, it’s a great time to start enjoying your favorite Frits again! There are a lot of great health benefits to eating fruits. I found this image with some of the fruits and there benefits. But there are many more too! What are some of your favorite fruits? And do you see any fruits that you should start eating more of for their health benefits?

I tend to eat a lot of grapes throughout the year. Plus I have half a banana each day in my breakfast shake. But come spring and summer, I try to eat more berries and watermelon. And pineapple is my favorite!

I like all the fruits on the list, but mango is probably my favorite! I have to be in the mood for bananas, though, and don’t like them in my fruit salad. I’m not terribly fond of star fruit or most melons other than watermelon.

Since I’m focusing on my eating habits this month and trying to get back on track, I’m tying to get excited about fruit as my snacks instead of all the baked goodies that we’ve been having lately! I’m not one to typically eat mango, but I’m adding it to in the grocery list because I tend to get excited when trying new things. And I don’t think I’ve ever had star fruit. Maybe another new one to try. And I agree with you on bananas. They basically just go in my shakes.

I've never tried star fruit either. I guess it's not available for my grocery pickup, because when I type it in, strawberries come up lol!

Since I've started trying to eat better, I've been trying to focus more on fruits. I've been eating apples, the Cutie mandarins and bananas. They are all so easy to snack on. I also love cantaloupe, but I find if I don't cut it right when I get home, I don't end up eating it. I just remembered another fruit I love is grapefruit. No one else in my family will eat it, but I really do like them. I put just a touch of sugar (or sweetener) on it when I eat it.

The fruit from the list I feel like I need to focus on is the pineapple. DH says I'm going to develop arthritis because I had the bad habit of popping my knuckles when I was younger. I feel like the jury is out on whether that really matters or not, but I would hate to develop it any earlier than I had to.

I like Strawberries, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, apples every once in awhile and same with bananas. I also like peaches and plums.

I got word yesterday that starting in June I will have to go into the office every Monday. So once a week. UGH!!! I don't want to go. We can do our whole job at home and there is no reason to be in the office right now.

I am not sure if I mentioned this last week that she had a a drive by party for my nephews 21st birthday on May 3rd. Well when we got there is was a party in her front yard. I still only did a drive by and dropped his gift off in the grass and even snapped at my sister and nephew to stay back as they were getting to close to me. Still 6 feet but to close for my liking right now (this is so sad). She snapped back that they are further then 6 feet away. Well This past Sunday she told us that she is sick. Fever, slight cough, slight runny nose, horrible stomach pains, no energy what so ever and her joints hurting. She thinks she has Salmonella and won't get tested. I think she has COVID. The symptoms fit with stories I have read. My niece that lives in the house works at a nursing home. She has very low cognitive skills and has been through lots of trauma in her life. She was taking from her mother because of abuse and later it was found out the the step-dad sexually abused her. If she got someone at the nursing home sick and they died she would never forgive herself. My sister really needs to get herself tested and my niece needs to stay home. She doesn't have the thought process to think of telling her work that my sister is sick and that she needs to stay home. She just knows she is not sick and is fine. My sister is most likely telling her she is fine to go into work. Ugh!!! There is nothing I can do. My mom has been talking to my sister and trying to convince her to get tested. I hope she does soon.

This is why I do not want to go back in the office. My sister has not socially distanced at her house at all. How can I be sure people at work have. Oh the anxiety I am going to have in June.

I like most fruits, but I'm particularly fond of pineapple, in a Dole Whip or not. This is apple country and we get some good ones, HoneyCrisp is my favorite but there is a new variety that came out last year that is Honeycrisp and something else that is also excellent, I just can't remember it's name, maybe Cosmic Crisp? The breeding and development of new varieties is really interesting, takes around 20 years from inception to market.

I like to brulee a grapefruit now and then, you slice it in half, cut loose the segments (I even have the fancy grapefruit knife) , sprinkle brown sugar on the top and put it under the broiler until the sugar melts and creates a crust. It's a very retro thing that was popular when I was a kid.

When I was a senior in high school I spent the summer working in the Youth Conservation Corps and we were located in a Girl Scout camp in eastern Washington. At the break for 4th of July a cherry farmer near by invited all the folks at the camp to come pick cherries, they had been damaged during rains and had scars and splits so he couldn't harvest/sell them. We all went home with suitcases full of bing cherries, instead of laundry... best cherries I've even had.

The past few weeks I was craving strawberries, but I've had my fill now. This week I have blueberries and bananas. I'm really looking forward to peach season, and to having the local strawberries in the stores. When we were kids we picked strawberries and raspberries during the summer to earn money for our school clothing. In hindsight I can't believe our folks let 4th/5th graders get on buses and go away with complete strangers for the day. Fortunately nothing ever happened.

Fruit is where Noom and my personal health needs don't align well, because Noon encourages fruit consumption but I really have to watch the sugar intake.

This week now feels like I'm on 'vacation', knowing that I'm going back to work Monday. I want to get as many morning beach walks in as possible, as that won't be possible during the week any longer. It's rainy the next couple of days, but I'll give it a go any way. Friday I'm going to make my day trip to Port Townsend and do a socially distant visit with my Niece and her chickens. I'll have to think of what to do Sat/Sun to have a proper weekend.

That is so interesting about it taking around 20 years to develop and new variety. I would have never thought it would be that long!

Also, I'm going to have to try that with the grapefruit. It sounds delicious!

We’re lucky to live in a semi rural area with several farm stands. Except for citrus, pineapple and bananas, we tend to eat fruit that is in season. Although I have been buying apples because they last longer since we’re shopping only every ten days or so. I am anxiously awaiting strawberries. I love them with vanilla Greek yogurt for lunch. And summer means peaches and plums.
I have gotten better about reaching for fruit for my afternoon snack-I actually like bananas!

That must be a terrible worry. Your sister and niece should be tested for sure. I would think the nursing home is testing employees?

I don't think they are testing. I think the testing is only when someone has any symptoms. I do know that if anyone gets it that whoever is working at that time will not be able to go home and no employees will be allowed in.
